Does any of the literature say how long the geiger tube will last?
How did you change it from AVG to MAX within the graphic mode?
Also is that shell soft rubber hard plastic?
Sorry can't remember about the AVG to MAX .. I'm not using it very often and so I just click a bit around ... lol. But the case is hard plastic ... but rather solid built ...
You can toggle it with a push on the power button.
I was looking for this feature too and already thought they didn’t have a Max display at the GMC-800.

Mine came with a nice case that can be attached to a neckstrap or a belt and protects it from scratches.😃
Sorry no case here, but I'm still glad I have this device because it really works. Just tested it on some Uranium glass ;-))
Will this detect neutron emissions?
IDK. Have not seen anything regarding that. Any idea how I could test that?
I dont think so you need special tubes for that.

It is detecting beta and gamma rays. AFAIK the glass send alpha radiation primarily and only over some byproducts this radiation is generating you can even measure something with this device.
Not 100% sure, though.
Some what of a nice review. The missing part of it was, that you failed to show how the unit reacted to different radioactive samples.
Yeah I know, but I don't have some or at least I'm not aware of them. Any suggestions?
@@allcheckout The easiest way to produce your own radioactive sample is to put a duster over the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner and switch it on for around 15 minutes (do not vacuum any dust, just air, ideally in an unaired basement room). The region of the duster, where the air went through, has quite high readings afterwards, with a resulting FDHM of about 45 minutes from the Radon decay chain.
@@larsdietrich9435 Oh - very interesting. I'll think about that. We don't have a lot of radon here ... at least it's not supposed to have a lot, but better test than sorry ... lol. But we don't have a basement here .... like 99% of all FLA homes don't have one. Do you think it will also work on the 1st floor?
@@picturestreams OK thanks for the info, but I couldn't judge that anyway. So I rather wanted to test some radioactive material, but idk where to find it ... The test with the air filter didn't work and didn't show elevated levels.
@@picturestreams Pb-214 and Bi-214 both undergo beta and gamma decay which should be picked up by pretty much any Geiger counter. Maybe they just didn’t run the test for long enough?
doesnt the big screen drain the battery very fast?
I never did long-term measurements, but sure - the larger the screen the more battery consumption, but if you need to do long-term measurements then you can permanently power it with the USB

Will you make a part 2 where you can test the features like the battery saving mode, the tube voltage and maybe a radioactive source?
@@yaykruser Yeah I wished I could do that, but I don't have the knowledge for that. I also don't live close to a nuclear power plant.
@@allcheckout You dont have to live close to a nuclear plant, there are lots of radioactive minerals , yoiüu could test ror radon for exaple by putting a ffp3 mask over you vacuum and clean your room or go to the next hardware store and hold it to a potassium salt.
Or just buy uraunium ore/ glass.
Thats what I did, I have a piece of uranium ore lying around but no geiger counter.😅
@@yaykruser thanks .... but I'm a bit scared .... especially regarding the uraunium ore stuff. But I have a light which has some green dots which illuminate in the night after shining on them with a light source. Would that also work?
