I tried oil painting once. I tried painting a wee landscape for my Grans Christmas one year. It was so hard but I tried my damnedest to make something look half decent. Then after it was finished I sat it down in my living room in front of the radiator to try and dry it and my cat walked across it leaving green foot prints all over my house. I had to wash the cat in the bath and it nearly ripped my arm off. That's a true story BTW so I'm hoping after watching this video it will be a better experience. Thanks man 😂✌️❤️

tip: drying with heat works for acrylics, not oils. Oil paint must undergo a chemical process to "cure". To speed the drying time you would have to add drying medium into the paint. When I finish painting I put it somewhere out of reach for my cat, also I don't lay it on the back but on the side to reduce the amount of my cats fluffy hair that will stick to the paint.

actually oil paint is much more user friendly than acrylic.. oil gives you more time to refine your paint because it dries much longer, though there are substance you can mix in the paint to fasten the drying period. or mix that substance in linseed oil. linseed oil is good especially if you are blending, if you dont want heavy strokes esp on the face then you need linseed to wet your mixture. it also refine your strokes, sometimes you get a lot of bad strokes because of that dry brush,a bit of linseed can fix that.

Not sure how the video helps inform new painters on how to actually improve which is what the title states. The only tips seem to be: just paint, set smart goals, what alla prima is, who to go watch on CZcams to learn about painting, limited palette is better to mix colors.
If you make another video I think it would be helpful to talk about mixing/drying properties and tendencies of oils vs acrylic. Most people struggle with this right off the bat because they’re likely familiar with acrylic drying quickly and layering over earlier stages. I would avoid any recommendation to think about color and instead use just black and white, or white and another color. Monochromatic palettes would allow new painters to first get used to the “thin vs thick” balance and timing of the paint.
If human portraits are the goal it would also be wise to think about big shapes vs small shapes. Details of a face will never look right if the underlying proportions and forms are off. I used to tell my students in drawing courses to squint their eyes when looking at their reference because it helps to simplify the shapes and values. It’s weird to do at first but eventually it can assist in reducing those enticing details of our subject and help us to see mass shapes and forms which are the basis in creating volume and the illusion of 3D form.
I think it’s cool that you’re bringing oil painting into an accessible place for beginners and people who have felt intimated by it, but I would be more aware of the “how to improve” title if there’s little to no info in the video on actual steps to starting an oil painting and why those steps are good/helpful for beginners. CZcams and social media are poor representations of “how to paint” videos, at times, because viewers are seeing videos from artists at so many different levels. IMO it’s important to help beginners find their starting place. Also it’s obvious, but to remind beginners that they’re paintings won’t look like the trained artists on CZcams because they’re just starting. Painting and drawing can be frustrating at first and that’s okay. But to help a beginner start out it’s best to state the obvious that it takes time and drawing or painting for an hour a day will accelerate their results faster than once a month. Also expanding our pool of figurative painters helps us see the range of interesting painting. Looking at as many examples of figurative painters through history will help expand the definitions of “good painting”!
    Happy painting everyone!! 🎨
