    In the Zelda: Collectors Edition for the GameCube that has Zelda 1 and 2, OOT and MM, the manual states, and I quote directly from the manual, “Having waged his battles across time to defeat the evil Ganon and restore peace to Hyrule, Link departed from the land that made him a legend. On a personal journey in search of a beloved and invaluable friend, Link was waylaid while traveling through the Lost Woods, and his horse and precious Ocarina were stolen from him. His pursuit of the villain led him into the strange, parallel world of Termina, where he found his fate tied to its impending doom...”
    When I read this the first time it sealed the deal to me that Termina was a real place, not a dream or 5 stages of death or whatever. Parallel or not, it’s a physical place.

  • @jordanmorris8033
    @jordanmorris8033 Před 5 lety +99

    Nobody's figured it out yet? The only way you can get the fierce Deitys mask is if u compete all side quests. And the mask contains all the memories of the people of Termina. Memories that wouldn't exist without you helping all the people of termina/side quests. It's one of those "Back to the future" time loop kinda things. The "fierce Deity" is Link. But like all fables and legends they're always larger then life, kinda like the F.D is so much larger then link.. But termina will always remember the boy who solved all their problems and saved them from certain doom, and finally broke the cycle.

      So could the F.D be the hero of time from another time line? If the mask contains the memories of termina then the only explanation I can think of is the F.D being another link from a past timeline that encountered termina before to seal of majora. Cause just like ganon, majora is probably going to resurrect again one day.

    • @neildelossantos9705
      @neildelossantos9705 Před 3 lety +5

      I believe that by helping all of the people of Termina and retrieving their masks, he is following in the footsteps of his counterpart in that alternate universe. Your answer seems right, and so does the part where the Fierce Deity is the embodiment of all the memories. (As you need to trade all masks to get his)
      The anomaly here is Link, and by completing everything, he is able to assume the form that he would have taken if he was originally from this universe.
      Skull Kid was possessed by Majora, there by assuming his role in this alternate universe, while Link would need to be “the other” to fulfill his.
      And yes, in the game Link could defeat him as himself, but I believe it’s canon that Link wears the Fierce Deity mask for the final battle.

    • @morganlucas8659
      @morganlucas8659 Před 3 lety +5

      So, the Fierce Deity is kind of like, a consolidated timeline? Every person you help and every deed you accomplish, all in one three-day span- which is impossible normally- is collapsed into one identity, and that is what makes the Fierce Deity so formidable. I love this theory! Good thinking!

  • @rey3103
    @rey3103 Před 3 lety +8

    Fierce Deity, to me, is the ancient terminian counterpart of Link. Sealed within a mask to be wielded against great evil. I.e. Majora

  • @austinkuntv5411
    @austinkuntv5411 Před 5 lety +22

    I side with the "sealed hero to be awake during Majora's resurgence" idea.
    The same tactic was used in Breath of the wild (sorta). Link was put to sleep for 100 years to be awakened again when Ganon was to come back and rule Hyrule again, and the people of Hyrule had to live without their hero during that time.

  • @emilyterrill3129
    @emilyterrill3129 Před 4 lety +21

    While you were talking about the creation of the transition masks you mentioned they seemed to have to be made from the dead or dying. That made me think, maybe Termina's hero was mortally wounded during his fight against Majora and as such was unable to finish the job only weakening it so it could be sealed. This would explain him becoming a transformation mask when Majora didn't.

    It seems to me that despite termina having a paralleled trinity, the Goddess of Time doesn't have a stake in the fight of chaos and order. Fierce Deity and Majora battled more as equals, and the deity was set to obliterate all evil as sworn duty. Its very possible that he was already respected by the people of termina, but did not sit well with the idea of sealing evil away. His perspective is to murder majora, not let it live, and deep down he understands that sealing it would break the cycle and render him without an equal. I think its likely he chose to be sealed, for both the good of termina and fear that if he perished with no rivals, he would no be reincarnated. The decision to seal both combating forces is in a sense, freezing time for the figures, as if the goddess of time heeded the necessity of peace by halting the battle while swords still clashed.

      Indeed.
      Majora one could argue was truly immortal and could not be killed, but his spirit could be trapped in the mask. The Fierce Deity had the powers to stop Majora and was thus viewed as a Deity, but he was not a true Deity because he was mortal and would ultimately perish. Knowing Majora could rise again, he put his spirit into a mask himself to ensure his own immortality and that someone else could wield his power to defeat Majora again.

    You could look at the whole thing in reverse though:
    You could rather say that Majora represents fearlessness without responsibility (acts like a child) which actually means that Majora is Links spiritual counterpart. Link representing courage, facing fear and danger and taking responsibility for saving the world. Hence Majoras recklessness endangers the world, while links fearlessness saves it.
    Which then makes more sense of 'the fierce deity'. Deity is so clearly synonymous with the idea of power, as is Gannondorf. Here two the opposite is true. Gannondorf believes his power gives him the right to own the world and ends up being sealed by others , the fierce deity seals himself so that he may return when his power is needed. Hence why he can be called a deity- he makes a sacrifice, he has ultimate power, and takes responsibility for saving the world, and waits until he is needed and wanted rather than acting on his own desires.
    That inversion also makes sense of Hylia/Zelda then. One is actively, thinking and trying to work out the danger - Zelda, a physical character who is recurring in the world, whose personality in the games involve her watching out and considering the best course of action. Wheras in Termina whoever it is, is vague, distant, invisible and only acts when required or asked. One is actively using your wisdom in the world and being part of it, the other is holding your wisdom separately from it.

      Was looking for this. Notice on the armor the fierce deity has that there’s the triforce of power not courage. Maybe as it’s a different realm the hero gets power or hylia was the hero/savior of time and deity was actually the god and the former evil entities had knowledge/wisdom of arcane arts and developed masks. Could be the fierce deity was sealed with majora and was brought to hyrule to stay as masks and the happy masks salesman orchestrated the events to bring the mask back with majora being a resident of termina and link a hero of time weakening the portal between realms (remember the salesman followed link). Maybe the mask salesman took the mask from termina to hyrule and the deity influenced events to return to termina. I do believe though he fits more in line with triforce of power. Would love a prequel that has link or deity take out the four bosses and turn them into the masks and finally ridding termina of majora by sealing him and then himself

  • @Serenity2Witchs
    @Serenity2Witchs Před 5 lety +18

    Here's my two bits (and apologies for not being super versed on Zelda Lore).
    It could be that the entire set up in Majora's Mask is actually a conflict of deities & spirits that are sorta outside of the Triforce. Why I think this is the case is due to the style and function of the game itself, it 'feels' more low scale though the threat itself isn't, like a side story, as well as the involvement of the Giants.
    But before I go into this long winded theory, at the end of the day, this story was probably made to be ambiguous, which is why the creators have such a tough time explaining exactly who Fierce Deity is and just the finer details of Majora's Mask.
    Majora could just be an ancient spirit/deity/soul of spiteful trickery that would be reincarnated every-time he died. The Fierce Deity, which is probably an actual deity and most likely worshiped by the people Majora would torment, could be the guy that kept killing Majora over and over again, putting an end to the mischief for a time. Cycle after cycle of this probably lead to Majora getting sealed into a mask to keep the SOB from reincarnating (Before he got sealed, he was probably doing something as bad as trying to drop the moon). I can theorize that when Majora was sealed, it was like a fracturing of its soul, most of the badness going into the Mask or the moon, and a little bit turned into the small imp (Skull Kid) that would eventually befriend the Giants (like the nice parts of tricky people). Fierce Deity probably voluntarily turned himself into a mask to serve as guard over Majora inside the moon, which might have caused a fracturing as well, the remains turning into the Giants, and perhaps a little bit becoming a piece of Link.
    Now Majora probably goes even crazier being stuck in a mask and moon, but can't do anything about it. The reason why i think Skullkid was a fractured part of Majora's soul, is that Majora didn't possess anyone in the tribe that was using the mask as a hex, and didn't possess the happy mask merchant either. It was specifically Skullkid, whom he used to call the moon down, and threw away when the moon was close enough.
    Finally, when Majora keeps trying to doing the moon drop is two fold. Finishing the joke of worst thing ever on the happiest day, but also the moon is probably the only thing strong enough to break the mask. When the mask is broken, Majora can reincarnate again, free. But this time, instead of spiteful trickery, Majora would probably be completely destructive due to the imprisonment.
    Probably wrong in more than a few places, but congrats on anyone taking the time to even read this post.

    My theory is that the Fierce Deity and Majora were fighting each other for years until one day Fierce Deity made a sacrifice that would trap both him and Majora inside of a mask, sealing him from the mortal world until Majora would once again be reawakened by the Skull Kid. Since it’s been so long since the Fierce Deity sealed himself along with Majora, he too succumbed to a fate that forced his power to be sealed into a mask, which is why Majora has it.

    • @octo6829
      @octo6829 Před 2 lety

      Well unfortunately your theory has no base, since the game literally states that Majora's powers were sealed by a tribe that then used the mask in hexing rituals, and so they feared the mask's powers and sealed it away never to be found, until the happy mask salesman finds it.
      And skullkid is a perfect example of why the mask should've never been found if it fell in the wrong hands.
      Also, when you recieve the fierce deity's mask the text literally says "could this mask's dark powers be as bad as majora?" it doesn't hint anywhere that he was a rival to majora. I don't think developers even know what to say about the fierce deity, they just created this character to fit a narrative and an excuse to have a grownup version of Link in the game in a way that made sense.

Then as time passed the existence of both Majora and the Deity vanished, and the reason that Majora has it is because during the "3" days he seeked the mask knowing that the Deity was the only one who could stop him, unaware of Link's power.

Link didn't fit in with the rest of Kokokiri because he didn't have a fairy and because he was Hylian. Skull kid didn't fit in with the other Giants and they left him to himself. Both find fairys that befriend them, and both find access to a new power. But Link uses his power to try and protect Hyrule, while Skull Kid uses his power to get revenge on those he didn't fit in with. Skull Kid could represent what Link may have become if he decided to live a more resentful life.

      Termina being a parallel world is fine. But and not taking the left over character models as a reason. If it was a typical parallel world like just an alternate universe. Than there wouldn't be really any differences in the people between the two worlds. As Hyrule has a few characters not native to Termina and vice-versa. I feel like Termina was created from time-loops in the realm that Majora and the Fierce Deity originated from. Like Majora might represent the darkness of people in a sense. Selfish, Despair, Hate, Fear, Purposelessness etc. The Fierce Deity might represent the light of people in a sense. Charity, Hope, Love, Courage, Purpose etc. If you take the suggestion that the Fierce Deity either is or holds all the memories/emotions of the people of Termina. Maybe Majora is or holds all the hatred/despair. And being an entity literally of despair it doesn't consider itself evil just doing what it is. And views the Fierce Deity, as it stops him as the bad guy?

    Another possibility for the Fierce Deity mask is the necessity for the Hero of Termina needing to be a part of whatever ritual the Tribe used to bind Majora, sort of as a sacrifice. That, or the ritual itself took time, and the Deity held him off in battle, an unintended side effect of which was being caught in the 'blast,' sealing him in a mask along with Majora. Not as a protector, but as collateral damage.

One day, a traveller found him, and Majora (the beast) confided in him that he wanted to die, being unable to find purpose in life anymore. The traveller pulled out a pair of drums and began playing. I can't get over how solid your videos on Zelda theory are. they have been a HUGE help to me as I continue to write my Termina Bible. Without spoiling too much, I built on that short story at the end of the manga.
    I theorized that after the mask was carved, the warrior donned it, gaining the power of forsight. He forsaw various races traveling to Termina in search of a better life and used the mask to split into four beings that shared one conciousness. After using the power of the mask to create Termina as we know it, they cast the mask aside, fearing it's mis use. Majora, however felt betrayed, used, and rejected, thus its hate grew and festered for many centuries. That is why it gave the skull kid full reign of it's powers. It saw a kendrid spirit in the skull kid, him also having been abandoned by the Giants. the story of the four Giants is actually about Majora, not the skull kid and the events of Majora's mask are pretty much history repeating itself.

First I think you're overstressing the counterpart thing, as you said they were reusing assets and in lore Termina is simply a neighboring country to Hyrule. However there are counterparts that are, imo, more plausible. We know the Golden Goddesses charged Hylia with the protection of Hyrule and the Triforce, what if the Fierce Deity is the same for Termina, and Majora is a demon from the same place Demise came from? Both sealed in masks in their final battle, maybe the FD was losing or it was a draw and the tribe was forced to seal both.

It was alluded that her people used their magic to get the Triforce and forge powerful artifacts within the Twilight Realm, maybe Termina is a place similar to Wind Fish Island, adjacent to Hyrule in some way but under the influence of another being or alteration of the timeline. Music affecting the timeline is a huge theme in all the games and especially in the 3 day cycle of Termina. Looking back at everything, it does seem that Majora is somehow an aberration of a lightly askew timeline where one descendant of the hero of time, wasn't as successful as the other's have been, and our Link from OoT somehow wanders into the situation or is maybe even summoned by the Skull Kid himself via the Lost Woods and their close proximity to where link would have been returning home after being sent back in time by Adult Zelda. At least, that's how I've always seen the game. Unfulfilled, yet repeating prophecy's, magic, and inexplicable similarities would HAVE to look like a dream if you didn't know it wasn't one.

Have you considered that in the termina world, reincarnation of evil and the hero doesn't happen because no curse was laid on by demise in that world. Majora was a great evil that obviously termanian giants (terminal Gods) couldn't defeat him so he was sealed away into the mask by their version of the hero (fierce diety). the fear of not having a hero in the future if majora was to ever be released again forced the hero to make the decision to be sealed into a mask as well incase majora returns. Good for thought, keep doing what your doing!

    I guess I will add me own theory behind the mask. Just a loose one, really. Anyways I don't know the mask's exact origins. But the fact that Majora hands Link the mask always had me thinking that the FD mask was what defeated Majora the first time around. Majora's wrath was indeed contained in its own mask due to the FD, however I always felt the price of that was the FD itself had to be contained with it. The flipside, however was should Majora's wrath be released it would also have to release the FD that contained it in the first place. But only if the conditions were met, such as collecting all the other masks in Termina.

    Now that I think about it, what if "Majora" is like a god of dark magic.And this ancient tribe used to worship him, as a gift for their piety, Majora gave them a mask for their ancient hexing rituals, but this was all really part his plan to take pleasure in destroying Termina.

    What if majora killed the fierce deity link by dropping itself on termina once before and sometime later had the song of healing played for him to drop a mask and split into the 4 giants to protect termina from majora dropping itself again. Then majora stole the mask some time after that for spite or maybe a power boost but then the tribes of early 2nd termina were told by the giants to do the hexing ritual to seal away majora's power and that which he gained from the fierce deity mask either until the end of time or until someone misused majora's mask.

    My guess is the Fierce Deity is a manifestation of all the collective suffering and misery in Termina, which is why it's more powerful than the other transformation masks containing the suffering of individual characters. Majora caused all of it, so it makes sense why he had the mask to give to Link.

    What if the fierce deity was exactly like link, but after Majora had been sealed in the mask, he had lived until he got really old, knowing he was near death he decides to have himself sealed into a mask so that if Majora should ever rise to power again someone worthy could don the mask and become him so they could beat Majora

    personal theory is, majora and fierce diety are terminian Hylia and Demise respectively.
    why is this Hylia cucco for cocopuffs? other then dimensional differences I mean. well, because the people of Termina forsook the golden goddesses, as evidenced by the stone tower. that probably tore into her psyche. it's also possible that the ikana ancestors captured her in an ancient war before sealing her into majora's mask.
    as for Oni, he's a powerful warrior whom can shoot energy slashes from his sword. and yes, this could also point to link but the description says that it could be more evil than Majora's mask. which being a broken Hylia, makes a certain amount of sense.
    it could be that Hylia's capture lead to people forsaking the goddesses now that I think about it.

    I think it would make more sense if the fierce deity was all good-- but after defeating majora and getting him sealed up he was badly injured from the battle. So -- the sages sealed him in a mask and set his soul free -- THAT WAY if majora ever broke free, someone could plop that fierce deity mask on and beat majora.

    I'm not a fan of cookie cutter heroes that do no wrong, or very little wrong, so a hero who falls down a path of corruption and either agrees to seal his power away out of a realization that he's gone down an irreversible path or the ancient tribe manages to seal him in a trap before he could come to this realization is something I like.

    • @TheDocbach
      @TheDocbach Před 6 lety +2

      That does kind of with Majora`s character though. He is reckless and cares more about entertainment rather than following through with a plan. He even taunts Link saying "if its something that can be stopped, then stop it.". Heck, even in the last battle, he is seen dancing around during the fight while dashing around. Majora clearly has a problem with ego and underestimation.
      In the end, he could have just saw the mask as a kind of handicap to give to his opponent. Almost like its a way to taunt Link further. That would make his demise that much ironic.

    • @TheDocbach
      @TheDocbach Před 6 lety +2

      My theory is very similar. I speculate that Link lost most of his power as the Hero of Time when he fell down the log hole when chasing Majora. He no longer has the Master Sword, and his end of the Triforce doesn't mean jack in this new dimension/Termina. He is in a seemingly hopeless situation where all he can do is race against the Moon and try to help others cope with the end. By collecting the masks, each person is offering a bit of strength to Link in the form of appreciation or acceptance or even a transformation. Similar to how the Sages added their strength to adult Link`s back in Hyrule. The sum total of this strength results in a mask that transforms Link into a form looks similar to when he was at his prime as an Adult fighting Ganondorf. Almost to say its a final Thank You from everyone he has helped.

  • @Michael-dm7nx
    @Michael-dm7nx Před 4 lety +1

    PART ONE:
    My theory is that termina's version of link/ fierce deity sealed majora would in the mask, but that alone wasn't enough. He turned himself into a mask to enter the mask realm (the realm all people or things turned into masks go to, I may have created this realm) and keep majora at bay, having an eternal battle with majora in the mask realm. (Say that would make an awesome prequell game. Playing as deity link for the whole game as you chase down Majora and his dark minions who would be significantly more powerful than in majora's mask that way the game isn't way to easy.) But if someone were to put on the fierce deity mask it would pull deity link out of the mask realm making it so majora could escape. So that would answer the question of why majora gave link the deity mask, he was hoping that restored to his full power he might be able to get his revenge on deity link for sealing him in the mask realm. As for how the happy mask salesman came to get it. Impa, the apprentice of deity link was told to hide the mask, she went to Hyrule (as in this video it says termina is an actual place, I agree) and hid it in the shadow temple. She established the Sheikah tribe to protect the secret of the mask... and eventually many many more secrets. With all this knowledge of secret stuff they became the highly advanced shiekah tribe. Now back to Mr. happy mask, kind of, part of the Sheikah tribe betrayed the rest, becoming the mysterious garo/yiga clan. This would make sense as the when entering the land the garo are in with the death mask, (or whatever it's called) they talk about a people who spied on hyrule. I think this was the garo/ evil sheikah. They could do this easily with gossip stones and other Sheikah instruments. Anyway, the garo (later to be called the yiga clan in breath of the wild) told the happy mask salesman about the mask, and it's whereabouts. He set up an innocent shop and after a couple months leaves after he had stolen the mask. This explains why he left Hyrule market so soon after he set it up. His mask was stolen by skull kid and he decided to follow link knowing he was a hero. He witnessed skull kid stealing links ocarina. He sees this as an opportunity to get link to get the mask back for him. The events of majora's mask pass. I also say Majora's lied when he said the fierce deity mask was of dark origin. He doesn't want you to have this power forever, he hopes you'll get rid of it if he is defeated again by it. Further, happy face lied when telling link all of majora's dark power is gone from the mask.
    MAJORA WILL RETURN!!!
    HA, HA, HA, HAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
    Now for PART TWO a.k.a.
    MAJORA'S MASK 2:
    Another reason Majora's gave link the deity mask is because it was a trap. In the mask was a special stone capable of splitting the timeline/ creating an alternate demension. Majora's could not activate this stone in his mask form. So he tricked link into activating it. Any way, when link wore the mask (thus giving Majora his full power as explained in part one) and destroyed majora, it created enough energy to activate the timeline stone. In that timeline created by the stone, Majora flees the scene instead of fighting because he has the memories of the alternate timeline because he was the reason it was activated, (the energy of his full power disintegrating into the air activated the stone) thus knowing he would be defeated. This is majora's intelligent and cunning backup plan. You find out he fled to Hyrule joining the armies if ganondorf who was in war with Hyrule while link was in termina which is proved in twilight princess. Link has to defeat both Majora and ganondorf.

    I love this vidoe, please do more Majora's Mask theories.
    I'm going to post my comments in a list order to keep it cleaner and not ramble on:
    1. I agree with your argument for the Fierce Deity being an anti-hero. Anti-heroes were popular during the decade that Majora's Mask was released and the idea correlates
    with the Fierce Deity's title and appearance in artwork (the art designer for OoT and MM was very focused on the story as well and wanted to be a film director).
    2. I would love to see you do a video on Hylian Dan's Stone Tower of Babel Theory. Very compelling ideas in there about the Stone Tower being a "Tower of Babel" in Termina,
    and the people of Termina blaspheming the Golden Goddesses of Hyrule and worshiping the Four Giants. Also the Stone Tower being some sort of worship place (perhaps by the
    ancient tribe?) of Majora, with the upside down Triforces placed in a blasphemous way, and Majora possibly being a female deity.
    Here is Hylian Dan's theories: www.zeldainformer.com/the_message_of_majoras_mask1/#.VLgmg9m9K0d
    3. Majora's and the Fierce Deity's symbolism. The Fierce Deity is obviously assosciated with the moon by his armor and silver colors, Majora is symbolized with the sun.
    This theory is VERY interesting and goes in depth towards this: thevoiceofslopez.wordpress.com/2012/06/28/lozmm-fan-fiction-majora-fiercediety/
    3a. Majora in my opinion is a female entity. I don't want to piss anyone off, Majora doesn't really HAVE to be male or female, but I think there is evidence by its appearance
    and voice in the game that hints at it being female. It correlates with the Sun and Moon good theory about Majora and the Fierce Deity where there symbolism with the sun and
    moon parallels the wedding tradition of the people of Termina (i.e. Anju & Kafei's Moon and Sun masks - there is some sort of duality going on there).
    4. I would also love to see you tie in the ideas of the ancient tribe actually being the Terminian counterparts of the Sheikah Tribe in Hyrule. Nintendo did state that
    Termina was created by "accident" when Hyrule was formed, so yes, Majora could very well be what Demise ended up becoming in the world of Termina, and the story of the
    Goddess of Time fits very neatly with the Goddess Hylia and the Hero being the Fierce Deity. What if the ancient tribe are really the Sheikah Tribe of Termina and they went
    on to become the Dark Interlopers before OoT and then the Twili in Twilight Princess? This would make for such a compelling story when you think of Termina being a parallel
    world with the Stone Tower, Ancient Tribe, Majora's Mask, Fierce Deity, and the Twili.
    5. Would love Nintendo to make another Termina game, taking place before Majora's Mask. It would take place even "before" Skyward Sword in Termina where you play as the
    Fierce Deity and we flesh out his background story and Majora's story and the ancient tribe's story.
    What do you think? I would love to collaborate or see you do a video on Hylian Dan's Stone Tower of Babel theories and the connection between the Ancient Tribe and Majora's
    Mask.

    The Fierce Diety was an Interloper who excelled in magic. He mastered the power of the Fused Shadow, and tried to overthrow the goddesses. However, with the help of the light spirits, the goddesses manage to split the Fused Shadow into 4 pieces and scattered them throughout Hyrule. As for the Fierce Diety, he was bannished to a different realm, while his soul was sealed in a mask.

    With the first word in his name being Fierce I feel like that kind of suggests he was to a degree ruthless. Also, similarly to how Link is a forest elf and Dark Link is a dark elf, I feel like given Fierce Deity's design he is probably supposed to be a high elf. And high elves are notorious for their pride. So, I feel like your comparison to Fierce Deity with Vegeta and Link to Goku was pretty spot on. Another theory I have is that they sealed Fierce Deity away in the same way they sealed Majora, because they thought that if Majora managed to escape, then Fierce Deity would be a necessity to stop him, because if he were to die there would be no one to stop Majora.

  • @wickwoodthewanderer9187

    I read a non canon fan story about something that likely didn’t happen, but is still really cool. In the story, the main protagonist was a goddess hidden as a human girl who’s name was Termina, along with a mysterious god named Sinegond. The two of them traveling across the world established the four different areas of the land and then clock town. An ominous evil started attacking the humans, so Sinegond went to figure out what it was, cue the flashback of dragon Majora and the hidden god. After sealing Majora’s power in the mask, Sinegond gave it to the Garo to keep it from danger. The Garo built Stone Tower Temple as a symbol of what was to come and as a place to hide the mask, which they did by using its power to build a place it couldn’t be taken from. The rainbow room that transports you into the desert dimension of Twinmold resembles the room you fight Majora in later, so that was their explanation. Majora eventually takes control of a Garo and then secretly goes to attack Sinegond, who by then was known to be the god of the moon. The land inside the moon was Sinegond’s domain and is also where Majora killed him and used all its power to trap his soul there, under the singular tree of the moon god’s death place. The two of them fought for three days and three knights before Sinegond was defeated and killed. In this fantasy, the Happy Mask Salesman is the spirit of the man who was used as a child by Majora to kill the moon god, and ever since then has been wandering between dimensions trying to free the spirits held within masks. When Link came to the land of Termina he found Skullkid, who was then possessed by Majora, and proceeded to do everything he does in the game. At the end just before Link entered the moon, the goddess of time herself sang to him the Song of Healing and said “Please, child of the light, save his soul. Remind him who he was”. The time goddess’s song caused Link to be impervious to harm while in the burial place of the moon god. As Link gave masks away to Majora, the thoughts and hopes of the people of Termina acted as the Song of Healing would on a dying character and turned Sinegond’s spirit into the Fierce Deity’s Mask. Majora saw Sinegond as evil, so in the mind of Majora this Fierce Deity Link would be an evil power stringer than himself. Tatl had never seen the mask before but sensed Majora’s thoughts. Link being in the Fierce Deity form had three blue gemstones on his chest, each a single moon tear for the three days of the battle. There is actually an insignia of the moon on his chest and the red and blue face paint matches Viking face paint used by vengeful warriors. It’s a really cool take on the story

    I have one theory about the game that nobody seems to talk about in their theories.
    All of the mask coincide with the major arcana or the Taro cards, considering everything you need to do in order to get the fierce deity mask you could consider what link had to go through as the “fool’s journey” basically experiencing events and people coinciding with the cards leading to them inheriting the “World”
    There are certain elements in the game that actually connect with this, the moon, the lovers, and while there isn’t a “tower” mask, there is the giants mask found in the tower temple.
