If you drive it hard enough, and/or do it deliberately, any sports car will spin out, the key being to keep it under control. The best sports cars can be kept in control easily, at least by a skilled driver. Miatas must be among the best sports cars, because they are so sharp, even tempered and intuitive. Love mine!

@Chewy Tortle Are you driving a good one, or a tired example? They have no power amenities (most do have power steering), but they're generally regarded as easy to drive... I find mine to be easy to drive, though she's at her best on narrow, twisty roads. Highways are not her forte, but in terms of total fun, especially in terms of bang for buck (but even independent of cost, to some degree), a Miata can't be beat.
Would invite you to explain what you mean by "hard to drive."

I don't often disagree with David, but I think this couldn't be further off the money. Early miatas in particular are very vague, but are great 7 or 8-tenths cars, meaning they're best when you're not pushing them to their absolute limits. A lot of the best drivers i know personally have binned a miata at least once because they're pretty easy to lose control of on the limit because they're vague at 10/10.

I grew up on Gran Tourismo, a 95 NA MX5 with a manual transmission and an LSD on the rainy streets of Seattle. I assure you the traffic behind me have on occasion seen my headlights. As an NC owner, I have to say that all of the generations of the Miata fit your description of reliability and fun. I swapped out the engine on mine to a 2.5 liter with a turbo. I am pushing about 300 hp at the wheel and it is sooooooo much fun. I added around 30 lbs to the car doing this, but I am still close to that 50/50 weight ratio and the handling on it is still excellent. If you ever get the chance, try driving an NC with that setup. I think you will find them a blast!

I have a monzo/meagan racing exhaust and I love it. With the top up it does drone but with the top down it’s great. It is a loud exhaust but I think isn’t too much

The raw analog feel is one reason I still choose to drive a 99 SVT Contour as a daily. The price and feel of the car just felt right for what I was looking for. Plus it confuses people when they see it which is a plus.

I've owned a 1.6 NA for 20 years - and put 175,000 miles ( 249k total miles on it). I've also owned many MGBs. a Datsun 1600, a couple Corvettes, and a 63 XKE that have come and gone but the Miata is still the go-to. I drive the snot out of it, and except for suspension bushes/coilovers, brakes, tires, batteries hoses and one headgasket (because of a hose) everything including the top, clutch and ujoints are original to the car. The AC, Cruise, power windows and power steering all work just fine. I finally got round to adding a bluetooth stereo.... Wouldn;t trade it for the world.

Just saw this vid. Love it. I have the same car. That NA might already have a torsen diff. The “C” trim Miatas with tan leather were pretty loaded. Might wanna call the dealership and check the vin or remove an axle and check for a diff pin. No pin= torsen win!
I drove mine for years without knowing mine already had an LSD. 😅

I've had moments where I've had lift off oversteer, understeer with full panic brake locking, and spin outs on cali canyon roads... by no means am I even a decent driver, but I've done everything in a miata and sure enough im still alive.
If you guys ever get yourself a miata, work your way into it with some quality coil-overs (flyin miata, xidas, ohlins), sway bar + end links, and a set of bushings! I'd recommend going 15x7 wheels, 15x8 if boosted.

I'm glad I bought my NA8 when I did. It's just an all around good car. Its comfortable for me, especially on a typical 45 minute commute to town as I live in the country. It may be my sole vehicle and daily, I can have a bad day at work but have such a blast tooling around in my Miata that by the time I get home I'm like "why was I mad?"
The miata is a car to experience when you drive it. Like, you Need to actually drive it and I mean Drive it. My daughter absolutely loves it, so there's that.
There's so much room for upgrades on all levels. From OEM+ to Wild.

This was the one i had my mond der on for my 94 but they only ship Canada and mainland USA and I live in Belgium so that ain't working 😂
And the "you need to be bad at driving to spin a miata really hurted, i spinned mine into a lightpost, currently at a body shop and should be back next week.

I've seen so many Miata videos lately that I'm definitely trying to grab one around February when the prices are still low from winter.
I originally planned on getting one then I decided to get a MK4 Golf GTI. It was great car though. It was a Imola Yellow 20th. With no resonator or muffler and a tune and blow off valve. It crackled and popped. It tore off the front tires. I never laughed so much driving a car. Sadly, I had to catch up in spring with a massive plumbing bill and I sold it.
Now, I'm pretty certain I'm gonna end up in a Miata next spring. I'm still back and forth if I want an NA8 or an NB2.

ive owned my miata for only 2 months and its only a 1.6 and i hadn't DRIVEN driven it yet like on a country back road. until yesterday when i was driving on twisty roads with 20 Miata's in front of me and 20 others behind me (miata meet). Its the most fun i think ive had in a vehicle. Just imagine 40+ miatas being driven to redline on a twisty road in the middle of ireland. pure perfection, it made me fall in love with my car even more.

I bought a '92 Miata in August 2020 for $3200, immaculate body, but needed an engine refresh, suspension, wheels, tires etc.
I've dumped probably an additional $8k into the car.
The car is so rewarding when you drive it well, yet is incredibly forgiving. I plan on doing ITBs, cams, and a tune.
