    This was absolutely tremendous! In a world of people that get torn down so easily with anything negative that is written or said about them by people they've never met nor probably never will meet during any period of their lives, it's refreshing to see how you embrace the negative and give it a great spin. Glad to see none of these reviews tear you down. More people should embrace your bold lead. Cheers!

    You're not lazy! Your books are amazing! I love the violence and the dark characters! Spades is one of my favorites to read about, she's so diabolical. I'm still reading book 2 but I already gave your first book 5 stars because it's in my top 10 fantasy books I've read! Don't listen to the haters and remember even Tolkien and Jordan and nowadays even Sanderson has them.

    I'm really surprised by how many reviews I see where people complain about violence, sex, gore, and so on. But then, some people complain about romance! It's like when people read, they don't want to read about real people.

    I subscribed to your channel a few months ago. Your cat is awesome. Our cats are always walking in front of our monitors when my wife and I are working. That one star for positive reviews doesn't just screw Amazon and Goodreads. A site where my wife sells things gets messed up by the same thing. Do people not understand the basic premise of starred reviews in this day and age?
    I personally don't get the negativity. I'd been searching recently for authors I've never read before. Among the books I chose were yours and some by Ramsey Campbell. I just started THE FORGETTING MOON last night, and I'm enjoying it immensely. The end of the prologue was perhaps one of the greatest phrases concluding it.
    ""For good or ill, the plans set in motion by the Brethren of Mia nearly three years ago were now fully underway."
    That made me want to read Chapter One and beyond. Great work, sir. I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

    Hi Brian, I'm a new subscriber to your channel, I found it because of Mike's Books Reviews and I went to see your content right away and I really liked it. I haven't read your books yet, but I want to do it soon, after having seen the review of Petrick Leo also on youtube and I must say that it left me with a lot of curiosity. I saw this video and I didn't want to stop supporting you. I'm writing a fantasy book and I've been doing it for a few years now and I know that the process of writing something of ours can be very good and fulfilling, but also frustrating, but in the end, it's good to see our story and our characters have a voice own. As an aspiring writer, I can't imagine the hurt it must be to see these negative criticisms. Of course, not everyone has to like our work, it is completely legitimate, but I think they should do it with respect for the work not only of the author but also of everyone involved. And just criticizing negatively without substantiating with plausible arguments, for me, it doesn't make sense. But that is my perspective. That said, I loved getting to know your channel and your energy and I'm looking forward to getting to know your writing as well.

    Also, when someone says a writer has no confidence in a character, it means that they weren't surprised by any of their arcs. That they found their roles to be dull or rather cliché in nature even. I mean idk I didn't read the books but when a critic says that, that's what it means.

    When we write, we tend to forget that we can easily make mistakes, especially when we're thinking creatively and not so much about how the words may translate to the reader. This is why you have to read WAY more than you write when you're writing your stories. It is important to delete unnecessary content as a good story can absolutely be ruined by how drawn out it is. If your subject is complex, then people will understand your need to explain some things in detail and take some time to set things up, but we have to admit when we write things that are for our ego and are absolutely unnecessary to the story. Every writer does it and it's the reason we all need really brutally honest peers who can review it.

    • @Schizniit
      @Schizniit Před 7 měsíci

      Also I've never read your material so this isn't a shot at you, I only just found out about you now. I mean a story can take so long to make and plan out and execute and actually pull it all together in a cohesive manner, but still we get so caught up in the whole convoluted nature of fiction (I mean it's called fiction because it IS convoluted) we forget to understand when we're writing something for ourselves or for the ones who will be reading it

    Hello, Danial Green who is pretty big in the booktube community gave you a decent review, and said he was willing to pick up the next. He goes on to say that most of the book is world building, but he hated the main character, but loved the other characters. I have to say however with best intentions, it is best not to comment on negative reviews. Booktubers/readers can be very unforgiving and ruin a career at the start. Just some advice from another reviewer. None of my business but I would like to see more of the writers in our community succeed.

    Don't listen to that. That's what some people complained about in book series like GOT, or even First Law and Lightbringer, and they are successful.

    I have enjoyed the series. The thing that I loved most about the books is how they defied the tropes of destiny and savior. The ironic part was that I found myself getting attached to a character and rooting for them to be the "savior". I have begun to wonder about the efficacy of magic items in the universe. I am intrigued by the potential outcomes. I think the "Cake is a lie" comment (besides being a reference to the game Portal) is related to the prophecies and the promise of a "savior/chosen one" type story. I think that reviewer missed the point. If I understand the authors intent, Brian has taken the normal tropes and turned them on their heads. I for one am anxious to read the third book.

    If you want my criticism the books feel like they're one novel that's been arbitrarily cut into (eventually) five pieces, both Forgetting Moon and Blackest Heart ended with plots in mid-motion and that's kinda annoying.
    Also, as to the person possibly mistaking Blackest Heart for book 1. I think that's a valid criticism, I was first drawn to this series when I saw the cover of Blackest Heart in a Barnes& Noble several months ago, but it wasn't immediately clear from the cover that it was the second in the series.

    Sounds like bunch of people that are bitter because they recognize the talent but cant relate..... Thats not actually the authors fault...sounds like a recipe for a cult following. Go read YA if your offended by adult content.
