    I like how these knives are prime examples of form follows function rather that style over substance like many other "cool" knives.

    Thanks for the review. My first choice for a huntingknife was a mora 2000. A cheap but solid knife for fielddressing. So I tought about buying this pathfinder for some bushcrafting adventures. A few days ago my confidence in the quality was disturbed. A french bushcrafter got a bad experience by batoning. The pathfinder breaks right behind the ricasso. In this upper price range mora should think about thickness and fulltang to be a reliable friend.

    It's a nice knife and Mora's reputation for great knives is solid, but for that price point and the added blade length, I'd like to see it with full tang construction and the same over molded grip. I'm sure it's an awesome knife, just my opinion

  • @FearNoSteel
    @FearNoSteel Před 9 lety +3

    I want this knife bad. That blade looks awesome for carving. But the competition is stiff at that price point. I think Mora either needs to change the specs (full tang, and different sheath design) or lower the price. Or maybe I'll cave in and by it before either, we'll see Mora, we shall see.
    Good video, Ben Thanks

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  Před 9 lety +1

      Big Brown Non full tang is ok since if you push this knife hard to full tang status the steel will suffer anyways. It is a nice knife but the price needs to keep coming down.

    • @dkoriss1
      @dkoriss1 Před 9 lety +2

      metaltrooper62 for bushcraft, survival purposes longer blades is not the best choice. This is due the leverage is becoming huge when the longer blade is deep into the wood and it is more likely to snap compared to shorter blades with same thickness of course. Some experts support the opinion tha a bushcraft - survival knife's blade, should not be less than 2.5 mm thick and NOT more than 130-140mm=13-14cm=5.11-5.51inches long.
      I have the bushcraft survival black and with a blade of 3.2mm thickness and 109mm=10.9cm=4.29inches length, I can say it feels like a tank into the palm.
      But for the pathfinder having blade's thickness of 3.2mm(exactly like the bushcraft black) and blade's length of 170mm=17cm=6.69inches (6.1cm longer blade !!! than bushcraft black), I wouldn't feel so secure about its strength.
      As matter of fact there is a video into the utube where a pathfinder litteraly snaps in the middle (where the blade meets the handle) during batoning, though I have test bushcraft black passing easily through bigger and toughest logs all kind of nasty knots all along.

    Put that thing in the typical plastic sheath and sale it for the 60$ that its worth and I would buy one, but it makes absolutely no sense why they priced it so fricken high.
    It is a cool blade though and that extra length makes for an awesome batoner, hopefully Mora will wake up and price it right we can do just fine with the heavy companion..

    While looking at this vid a second time, you know us old foggys, 67, got to see things twice so we assimilate the info. LOLI realized, as good as that knife looks, I think Mora made a mistake. I think they should have come out with a 5-51/2 blade on this knife and made the Garberg, a full tang knife, with this longer and larger blade. I really like the Mora Bushcraft Black. I bought one after watching this vid. I would like to see one with a 5' blade.

  • @Screamingtut

    finely they have dropped the price to $87.00 on Amazon not $110-120 when they first came out I think $60-70.00 will be a good price they would sell more at that price they should drop the Mora Black to $35-38.00 instead of $45.00. I have 5-6 Mora's and gave a few away to friends who needed a decent Knife. I put several ranger bands on their sheath to give the 25-30' of 550 paracord and about 50' of #24 bank line the rope a place to grip on and then covered it with more ranger bands. Oh yes I included a ferrocerium rod and ground the spine to 90 degrees.

      Stick tang is better in cold weather.
      There's a reason the people from the north make the stick tang knife and not the full width tang knife.
      Even in Southeast Asia/Indonesia the Parang is most often made with a stick tang. And that's a chopper...
      And most swords have stick tangs also etc.
      The stick tang into the injection molded polypropylene is a quite good concept.

    I dont like moras at all, but years ago I saw the relations price/value for people looking for a good and cheep knife. I remember moras on ebay for $9, after a year or so the price go up to $13 $16 etc. Today I can NOT see the price/value like years ago. We can find on internet differents mora models for $50 $75 $100?. Is a lot of money for a good (but not awesome) steel with a chep plastic handle and a crappy sheath. We can find hundred of better options for the same price range. Mora is not a budget option any more, they lose the relation price/value time ago. TODAY you can find a fallkniven F1 for 109 brand new, a l.t wrigth bushcrafter hc for 109 or 79 without sheat. A tipical kabar for 70, an esee 4 and 6 for 110, etc, etc, etc. Mora is not an option anymore. In My opinion of course.
