Homemade Silog Breakfast Recipes (Beef Tapa, Longganisa and Pork Tocino)

  • Start your mornings right with these homemade Filipino silog breakfast recipes! (by the way I go for plain rice over garlic any day for these - shhhh don't tell anyone)

    Recipe:
    Tapsilog
    - 700g sirloin
    - 3 tbsps heaped of minced garlic
    - 2 tbsp of sugar
    - 2 tbsp of soy sauce
    - 1 tbsp of vinegar
    - 1 tsp ground black pepper
    - 3 tsp of salt
    Tocilog
    - 700g pork shoulder
    - 1 cup brown sugar
    - 1/3 cup of pineapple juice
    - 1 tbsp of paprika
    - 1/4 cup of rice vinegar
    - 2 tbsp of soy sauce
    - 2 heaped tbsp garlic, minced
    - 1 tbsp of salt
    - 1 tbsp corn-starch
    For annatto oil:
    - 1 tbsp annatto seeds
    - 1 cup canola oil
    Longsilog
    - 450g longganisa ground pork
    - 4 tbsp garlic, minced
    - 1 tsp ground black pepper
    - 3 tbsp rice vinegar
    - 1 tbsp salt
    - ¼ cup of cornstarch
    - 1 tbsp of paprika
    - ½ cup brown sugar
    - 2 tbsps annatto oil
    Sides:
    - 1 egg
    - coconut vinegar
    - crushed garlic
    - pinch of ground black pepper
    - 1 cup rice

    I know these are traditional... But my favorite is danggit with tomato, onion and chilli dipped with cane vinegar, fried egg with crispy edges and garlic rice...
    Honorable mention good quality cornbeef and spam..
    Filipino breakfasts are the best..

      If you don't like the recipe you can change it when you cook it but don't hate on creators. Even professional chefs nga has different techniques in cooking a simple omelette 😂😂😂

      @@bbhdaily4931 It's because he already explained in the beginning that this is his way of cooking it. If you really follow him, you can see on his previous videos he get bashed most of the times because he put twists and modern touch on his recipes.

    Your recent videos make it so evident that you’ve been missing the Philippines (Jollibee, Kare Kare, tinapa, etc)! Can you try to recreate Filipino bakery staples next (pandesal, pan de coco, ensaymada, etc) or maybe bake your own version of Ube Cheese Pandesal?

    A huge THANK YOU for these recipes. I live in the neighborhood where there's no Filipino resto nearby, like I have to drive 35 mitutes to buy Filipino food. The market here has limited asian food or ingredients... i miss my mom's cooking. She used to make longganisa and tocino and sell them to the neighbors. Never learned her recipe and this is the closest taste I ever had.... so thank you so much...loved it!

    I've never cooked tocino perfectly EVER, when I saw that trick that you did with a bit of water to deglaze the pan it CHANGED my tocino. God bless you man.

    When eating longanisa, you should put oil that you used in frying in the rice and add some patis, mix altogether then boom it's really delicious

    Very true regarding savory vs sweet breakfast. I moved to the US when I was 10 and my breakfast and diet definitely adjusted to the western type breakfast. While I love filipino breakfast, it’s too heavy for me on a daily basis but will for sure get down with some filipino breakfast for our weekend brunch 👍🏽 thanks for the recipes!

    When others are looking for Sinangag. I definitely prefer plain rice too as the main dish is already tasty and oily. I think Sinangag is best paired with Sinigang or any other sour dishes like Paksiw. Well, it's just for me 🤗

    Another alternative to a true Filipino breakfast is Danggit, tinapa and tuyo. But, i dont think, they have those in Melbourne.

    Love it all since I really love silogs and I eat them any time of the day. I even made skinless longanisa several times before and remembered I also put paprika, didn't bother w the casing though and will continue not to.
