    Yeah the bricky videos are a very excellent start to truly having a grasp about what warhammer 40k is truly about. they are long videos but honestly aren't extremely bloated like most 40k videos. especially if you want to understand specific factions. he also has a followup talking about how each of the factions play and how cheap they are to buy or easy to paint. lots of good starting points from bricky.

    I recomend checking out Luetens introduction to the 40k universe and hobby at least first. Less comedic, broader and more concise.
    14;13 those seem to be Vostroyans. These guys are imperial guard with a polish kossak vibe to them. Every family send their firstborne son to the guard so their regiments are large, have a lot of good technology and get reinforced from home which is rare for guardsmen. han hapened was back in the day their world got a call to raise men for the big civil war. They said no, you need our guns more than you need our men; this was their punishment which by the standards of the times was quite light.

      @jorgedeanoperez2997 Před 2 lety

      Are you saying Polish kossak to avoid saying Russians? Because they're absolutely Russian cossaks/whites. Like, they couldn't be more Russian even if their Regimental Commander was called Vladimirov Putinskov

  • @thegreatsagesun
    @thegreatsagesun Před 2 lety +14

    While Bricky is a good introduction, and the most frequently recommended, it's incredibly long-winded as an initial foray. While I still recommend it for newbies, and it's good, I think Luetin09's introduction is a much better start, as it's much more of a concise presentation for Warhammer 40,000 as a whole, which will then serve as a good launching point into Bricky's longer faction intro. From there, The Templin Institute is a solid pick-up; they're well-researched, well-presented, and not overwhelming and good at establishing the universe's broadstrokes.

    • @ironduke5058
      @ironduke5058 Před 2 lety +3

      Luetin talks mostly about the Emperor and the great crusade. Which while goes into much more depth, covers very little of the Universe compared to Bricky's video Which covers it pretty well and isn't boring

    • @reprobatic5485
      @reprobatic5485 Před 2 lety +7

      I actually think Luetins stuff is more rambling and dense than Brickys videos. Luetin is very talky and can be a little dull if you are trying to get someone interested. Bricky is a little lighter on detail but presents the info in a more fun and digestible way. And then when you've hooked your victim, Luetin can reel them in with his content.

    The real reason the chaos gods hate the emperor isn't that he stole from them. Just just the lie to gods tell their followers to make him out to be the bad guy. The real reason is, he spoils their fun. They enjoyed causing havoc and, you guessed it, chaos across the galaxy. But he was basically putting a stop to that and ruining their fun, by bringing order.

  • @dagonofthedepths
    @dagonofthedepths Před 2 lety +4

    It's easier to say there are no good guys in 40k but I think it's more accurate that there isn't a faction that hasn't done something messed up at one point or another. There are good people (or atleast not evil) but in general it's a dystopian galaxy where it doesn't pay to be nice most of the time. It really comes down to, on 1 hand be nice and risk not just yourself but also potentially 1,000s of your people trying to trust an enemy or unknown commodity or just assume everyone is out to get you and be a prejudice jerk and never have that come up.
    One good example is psykers. It's pretty common to just burn pyskers "abhor the witch, burn the witch" is a creed for a lot of worlds which is horrible, But every psyker can potentially lose control and turn into a hell portal where daemons will come out of. Worst case 1 pysker could lead to the destruction of a whole sub sector of space. Potentially billions of lives. So cold logic says you shouldn't let them just run around. Killing 1 person out of 1,000,000 is a fair trade for keeping billions safe. And really, what happens during demonic possession will make the psyker wish he was just shot.
    Also people tend to take memes as fact in 40k and that's kind of a meme.
    They did advance the timeline(finally), it is M.42 now. Although part of the problem with time is it is relative in space. Our 1 hour isn't the same 1 hour in the void between planets as gravity warps time.
    If your taken as a psyker and not sacraficed or killed, your sent to be an astropath which sucks as you'll probably lose your eyes and become a glorified intergalactic phone or a battle psyker. Navigator's uh, navigate ships through the warp have their own houses and are pretty well off honestly.

    Slaanesh is not necessarily a god of pleasure. It's more of excess and obsession. Pleasure is one of its domains, but also drugs, food, art, pain, and everything else.
    So long as its taken to an extreme level of excess or obsession with something, it pleases Slaanesh.

    An abridged overview of the species, civilisations, and factions in Warhammer 40,000:
    *The Imperium of Man* is the largest and mightiest human empire in history, ruled in the name of the immortal God-Emperor of Mankind, who guides humanity from atop the Golden Throne of Terra. It is a brutal theocratic regime, where human life is cheap and easily discarded upon vast battlefields and in the industries that support endless warfare. The Imperium has countless armies and organisations dedicated to combating the many foes of the enemy, both external threats like invading aliens, and internal ones like rebellion and witchcraft.
    The Space Marines (Adeptus Astartes) are bio-engineered super-soldiers, clad in mighty powered armour and equipped with deadly and terrifying weapons. They are few, but fearless and far deadlier than any mortal warrior. There are a thousand Chapters of Space Marines, each with their own heraldry, traditions, and storied histories, such as the noble Blood Angels, the stalwart Imperial Fists, the ferocious Space Wolves, and the cunning Raven Guard.
    The Astra Militarum, commonly called the Imperial Guard, are ordinary soldiers mustered to fight in vast regiments of thousands of troops, ranging from infantry, to great tank regiments, to earth-shattering artillery batteries. They form the bulk of the Emperor's armies.
    The Adepta Sororitas, the Sisters of Battle, are all-female orders of holy warriors, defenders of the Church and those faithful to the God-Emperor. Their zeal is unmatched, and their faith seems to manifest in miracles. They are armed with mighty weapons and armour, that they might bring the Emperor's Word against heretics, traitors, and anyone else who would defile the Imperium.
    The Adeptus Mechanicus, the Tech-Priests of Mars, are a religious order devoted to maintaining the advanced technology needed to maintain the Imperium. They replace their flesh with cybernetics, believing that flesh is weak, and they seek to reclaim lost knowledge. They have legions of warriors, cyborg-soldiers known as Skitarii, and vast war machines called Titans.
    The Imperium relies upon the Warp to travel between the stars. A parallel dimension of thoughts and nightmares, vast ships can dive into the Warp to bypass physical space... but there is always a risk. Warp Space also serves as the source of power for all psykers, witches, and sorcerers, and such powers are risky and dangerous, but long-range astro-telepathy is the only way to send messages to distant worlds.
    The Gods of *Chaos* oppose the Imperium and the Emperor. In addition to numberless hordes of daemons lurking in the Warp, they have the loyalty of innumerable cults and secret societies across countless worlds, deadly Reaver fleets that haunt the darkness between the stars, and even warbands of deadly Traitor Marines: Space Marines who have fallen to darkness. The greatest of the Chaos Gods are:
    Khorne, lord of skulls and God of bloodshed and slaughter. Khorne is rage and hate and fury.
    Tzeentch, changer of ways, and God of schemes, sorcery, and mutation. Tzeentch is plans within plans, whispers promising power at a price, and the everchanging nature of Chaos.
    Nurgle is the Grandfather of Plagues, the God of despair, entropy, and decay. Nurgle's followers are joyous, for they have accepted the inevitability of death and decay.
    Slaanesh, the Prince of Pleasure, God of Excess. Slaanesh is addiction and obsession, the drive to indulge even when it would be destructive.
    There are numerous *Xenos* species which exist in the galaxy, fighting their own wars for survival.
    The Aeldari are an ancient species, who ruled the stars long before humanity ventured into Space. Long-lived, agile, cunning, and powerfully psychic, the Aeldari are now a dying species, fighting against a self-inflicted extinction, for their empire fell because of the own hubris and decadence, creating the Chaos God Slaanesh. They are a fractured people: the disciplined Craftworlders, living on drifting city-ships, the isolationist Exodites, the cruel soul-drinking slavers of the Drukhari, and the enigmatic Harlequins.
    The Necrons are an ancient empire of undead robots. Millions of years ago, they warred against godlike beings to dominate the stars, but too weakened by conflict to claim their prize, they sealed themselves away in vast hidden tomb-cities, to awaken when all life had died out... they woke up early, and now seek to scour the stars of life.
    The Orks are a belligerent species constantly seeking violence and the thrill of war. Often merely found as small warbands and piratical raiders, Orks become truly dangerous when united by a strong leader, gathering together in a great horde known as a "Waaagh!", which can lay waste to dozens of worlds in a berserk mixture of invasion, holy war, and drunken riot.
    *The T'au Empire* is a small, young empire, relying on powerful advanced technology to expand. The worlds they claim are offered a chance to peacefully accept the ways of the T'au Empire-the _tau'va_, or Greater Good-before the T'au send in their high-tech armies.
    Arriving from beyond the edge of the galaxy, the *Tyranids* exist only to consume, devouring all life on each planet their Hive Ships reach before moving onto the next. Their armies are species of genetically-engineered creatures each created to serve a specific role, from swarming infantry beasts to huge synapse creatures who command the swarm, and vast tank-sized monsters.
    Amongst the Tyranids' tools are Genestealers, vicious ambush predators which can infiltrate and subvert other populations. These creatures create Genestealer Cults, formed of hybrids and mutants, which lay in wait until the time is right for them to rise up and overthrow planetary governments and await the coming of the Hive Fleets.
