Just got the exact same mower to replace my 32" WB. I was very hesitant because of the size of the engine and inability for a sulky. So far I love the machine it's nimble and can switch to bagging, mulching or side discharge in seconds!
I've got the "mow and go system" I put a 21" self propelled snapper, a 32" ss10 snapper hydro and a 52" stand on mower in the bed of my truck.
We build our own dovetail attachments and use the same trailerracks accessories, but we also have one of those ramps you're using as well, and have thought about deploying it. Thanks for sharing
New to the channel, great video, nice setup!
Love the no trailer type of setups. I ran with no trailer in the beginning of the year. Got my business going
Anything to look out for? @jon’s daily hustle
I just got a no trailer setup about 1 month or so ago, haven’t gotten to use it day to day all day since the grass is dormant. Anything to look out for before I get into the growing season?
@@evergreenlawncarellc1505 I'll tell you the advice I was told when I started from other guys
Don't sell yourself short (know your worth)
(Don't be the cheap guy basically)
Get insurance as soon as you possibly can
Focus on route density (that one I learned the hard way, routes make a huge difference in of your profitable or not)
Be aware of scammers, there seems to be a lot of scammers going around either out to get free work or a free insurance claim or taking your money in someway.
If you're going to run an open setup make sure your stuff is secure or always in sight because people will steal it
@@JonsDailyHustlethat’s another reason I want a no trailer setup. I just want to back the whole rig into my garage at night.
Mike you can use loctite ( it’s an adhesive) to secure the bolts on the mower
Good point! Thank you!
I really want this setup, good job with the efficiencies Mike!
Thanks Crisp! Let me know how it goes if you get the setup!
Great job, you're genius!
I really like your idea with the small mowers. I do lawn care PT and I’ve been thinking how could my equipment make money while I work my FT job.
I do like that setup
Keep the top cables lubed up. From all the rubbing they break easy.
When I retire in 2 years, I plan on starting a lawn care business (real simple: mow, edge, trim). I want a no-trailer setup for a 36” stander, and a 21” walk behind. The only thing I don’t currently own is the stander mower and the Stihl Combi-system. I have a good enough gas blower, Stihl Trimmer, Toro self propelled 21” mulch/rear bag/side discharge mower, and all the hand tools. With a few upgrades I could make my 37 year old F-150 work (I could put a new crate engine in it and still be 1/4 the cost of even 5 year old truck). I’m not interested in big commercial jobs, just little residential yards to supplement my pension and Social Security, and stay out of the house (and my wife’s hair). Also, hint: with those gas cans, press the button to vent the pressure before you put the nozzle in the tank. That will prevent a lot of splash back.
Awesome video
Good video! Only thing that would make it better was if you had a collar mic. Congrats on your success in the lawn care business!
Dialed in 🤙🏼
Nice video. There is no way I would take the clippings with me though, IF I BAGGED THEM. I bet you could get away with saying no to bagging if you put your foot down.
Hey Mike, love this video and we're switching to something very similar and getting rid of our Isuzu box truck and zero turn. Most of our properties are 6k of turf area and under. At what size lawn does it not make sense to run this type of setup? We'll be using 25" push mowers. Thanks in advance.
That seems too big to not be using at least a 36 or 48 inch walk behind.
I think highly of you and your knowledge. You can sell people on not bagging. If anyone can, it’s you! Push mowing is horrible. That said, you know what your doing. I just think y’all would be better off with a true ramp rack or mow and go, with a 36” stand on or walk behind with velke. But your business is bigger and better than mine. Just thinking about your folks in the field. Best wishes and God Bless.
I couldn't have said it better myself. 100% agree. I'm also thinking about franchising with them.
You got to have some serious good employees to trust them with a stand on side mower with this walk behind push mower you're almost guaranteed that they're not going to be able to break it or seriously injure themselves
Call me crazy but I like push mowing. I can knock out smaller size yards compared to spending 40+ min on a zero turn on a yard out in the country
I save $$ buying a cheap sthil straight shaft weed eater and using all the kombi attachments on it instead of paying the price for actual kombi unit.
How did you mount the racks and tools racks and blower rack on the truck bed
Even better is a cargo van. I only do mowing I dont need a truck to haul stone or anything else like that
Hi! Im in Florida and the wet ground plus heavy machine leaves ruts. Here a light machine is a selling point.
Great point!
Since you bag what do you do with your clippings?
Do you need a D.O.T number for this setup? Also do you need dot for the decal vinyl wrapping?
If u dont have a garage. .backyard. carport. U need a enclosed trailer. Period.
Dope
Hey Mike do you guys ever use the dumper dogs?
Does your market require all your guys to be licensed to spray?
How are you getting rid of your clippings?
Any issues with vibration while in transport...I notice the blower and gas tanks have some play
They do vibrate and move some but we havent had it create an issue ever.
I been running a rack just like this but steel for my mower for the past 2 years ha maybe you saw my idea..🤔😂
😂 imitation is the greatest form of flattery
Those are great gas cans 👌
can you provide a link to the what the mower is sitting on?
Nice video
We don’t use them anymore. There are aluminum and steel ones. I would recommend steel. The aluminum ones are just too soft/malleable
@@MikeAndes do you have a link to a steel one? Thanks for your reply
Andes my dream is to have 30 employees and have a manager and the business will be automated and run itself. i started this year the landscaping business.
Congrats! Best of luck, Eric!!
Thats a great idea, remember bigger isnt always better. I'm sure Mike would agree. You can have a 2million plus business and a 200,000 business thats clears more money. A lot of ppl down size after getting big cause they realize they made more money with the smaller business. Good luck buddy
@@handyscapersllc From what MIchael said in the past. The hurdle is when you get to 500,000. Because of the fact that now you need an office person. That’s why Mike had the building materials yard. It paid for his office person. Pretty smart. I have no experience in this, but I am repeating what Mike has said in his latest videos. He says that it comes down to efficiencies and systems. If either of those aren’t a big part of how you run your company. That’s when it becomes very tough, and I think Mike said it was impossible to Get to a million.
Now I’m thinking about going no trailer on my non bagged yards but going w a enclosed trailer still on my HOAS that I have to bag grass
Good plan!
What’s the process of dumping the clippings at the end of the day? Do you have to take off the mower ramp prior to dumping?
Most of the clippings are stored in bins and they are just dumped off the side of the tail gate since that can still open with the mower ramp on.
@@MikeAndes where do you dump your clippings?
@@dabbking interstate, just crack the bags open on the way back home. 😆
No ride on or big push mowers
Will the Toro 30" TurfMaster be the same tight squeeze on the trailer rack?..will i also need to cut out the piece on the side?..great video!!
Maybe not... but it would be tight. We havent tried it. We switched to the full ramps this year.
What’s the name of the bed rails ? We would like to mount trimmer racks on our truck beda
Just search “bed rail” on TrailerRacks.com
Do you ever get customers that say "hey why are you charging me extra because you don't have a bigger mower, it's my problem you don't have the right equipment "? This is something I've always thought was true that if you don't have the right equipment then how dare you charge the customer extra when its not there fualt. So I changed some an now idc if I do or don't im charging accordingly
We have not YET had that feedback. Remember, the Customer accepts/rejects your estimate BEFORE seeing your mowers/equipment/setup. They are simply looking at VALUE vs PRICE
@@MikeAndes makes sense. Thanks Mike
Which rack did you like for the 21inch mower?
DiscountRacks.com
@@MatthewSmith-uf6tr I misspelt it sorry!
Here it is www.discountramps.com/
Hey Mike I think I might have to jump on a call with you. I’m just starting up my business and all of my equipment got stolen. I had an enclosed trailer a walk behind with the Velke. A 21 inch mower weedeater all that stuff. Anyway I had to go spend $2000 on a new 21 inch mower and everything else needed for lawn care. All this was right before my face first account. Right now I am paying google up to $750 per month for advertising I’ve got a website going all I have to do is write a couple blogs for the website so I can own my advertising. I forget what you called that in your book. Anyway, my question is I have $3400. I have a truck. I do a lot of cleanup’s where I could use a trailer. Would you steer someone in my position towards a enclosed trailer or an open trailer?
Why would you bag the clippings instead of mulching?
UNFORTUNATELY it is common/standard practice in our area... due to climate and type of grass
@@MikeAndes Thanks for the fast reply. I guess it does make sense considering you'd charge them extra for debris removal. In my area most of our grass is St. Augustine and it's usually easy for me to cut without making hay unless it's really tall. I've thought about bagging some of my customer's lawns though because they have "field grass" that grows overnight and makes smelly wet clippings. Sometimes it takes me about 10 passes to get it all completely mulched.
What is biggest lawn you guys mow with trailer less setup
Our biggest? Probably an acre... I would have to double check. But at least that big
@@MikeAndes that's a lot to do with a 21 inch. How long does it take? And what do you charge for a acre?
The music is way too loud and distracting. Otherwise great vid
Did you bought your rack online?
Yes
So is it a 1 or a 2 man crew for that truck set up
We try to keep solo routes unless an employee is getting trained.
@@MikeAndes Do you find any difference in morale with solo vs 2 man crews? Not sure if you've done a video on this already. I suppose solo maximizes the efficiency on straight mowing, but most of our clients are full service (mowing, hedges, garden beds, debris removal) and some days are definitely a grind going solo. I find the buddy system helps keep us pushing forward.
This video should help... czcams.com/video/GOaWPPIBRjI/video.html
P4P really makes the employee like solo routes since they can make more $$
@@MikeAndes Thanks a lot. Great breakdown of the pros and cons.
I’m a big fan of the trailerless setup. I do bag a fair amount of yards. Just not a fan of the cargo ramp to carry the mower.
How do you get anything done only using a push mower?
You can get a lot done with a push mower; all depends on if you're willing to put in the work. However, where you live will dictate what kind of equipment works best for your business. Here I service residential lots, and 99% of the gates won't let a a 36" mower in! I've actually serviced a property that I couldn't get a 30" mower in to the back yard. The 21" mower is the best for my business: it's cheap, lightweight, takes up little real estate, easy to maintain, and fits through all the gates. Get a really good one and you'll be making profit in no time.
@@buckhornlawnservice4982 which would you recommend?
@@omegavetrix5184 I currently use a Toro Super Recycler, but the best I've used before was the Honda HRX217. You may get lucky in finding one these days, and the model with Rotostop is even rarer. I was not impressed with the Exmark commercial 21, so save your money.
@@buckhornlawnservice4982 tip the 30 inch sideways on 2 wheels if necessary and go on through the gate.
Is this your business that you started ? Or a franchise
I started the franchise, This was filmed at one of our corporate-owned locations.
Hola quiero poner mi compañía me gusta la máquina de 32 saludos
What market/area are you in?
This location is in Bellingham, WA
@@MikeAndes figured it out by watching a few more videos, thanks for the quick response though. I’ve been looking into you and Augusta a bit more, I’m truly inspired by what you’ve done and your work ethic, hope to meet and maybe even work with you one day. It’s crazy that you don’t have hundreds of thousands of subscribers to be honest, you put out an immense amount of useful information for people who are starting out in this industry. Thanks again(*to you and the Augusta team)
Don't even get me started on fixing the wiring on my trailer 🙄
LOL
But why not just use a trailer? More equipment better right????
A zero turn would be faster lol
🤯🤯🤯
A 48" commercial mower will snap the bed frame
So far, not yet 🤞
why not just get a 16ft open trailer
Trailers are a pain if you are in the city.. sometimes if you are at a house theres another car or service van parked on the side and you have no room plus they are extra maintenance
@@leadnsteel1428 not really used trailer for 12 years in a busy city. You don’t need to park right out front either . Can always park down street a bit. Also changing bearings ever few years is not much maintenance
