- In this one, after having kitted out our lovely new tandem, Aishola and I finally set off to tackle the British coastline. From my childhood home in Somerset we head towards Minehead, the official start point of the South West Coast Path. On our 65km touring bike we have everything needed to wild camp, and believe me, there's going to be a lot of wildcamping over the course of this series!

Hahaha this cracked me up!
More than 50 years ago My girlfriend and I cycled from north of london to Devon on a tandem. A round trip of 400 miles. I am watching your story and remembering our journey. The most scary part was descending a long steep hill in the rain without the brakes working due to the water, have fun!
😊👌
Oooo may those memories remain till the end of life... salutes!!!!
Are ypu still together? Hahaha
What a story man!
I'm happy to see Ed and Aishola wild camping in the UK, it's best to ignore rules that don't make any sense :)
czcams.com/video/6KLlaHdSJAo/video.html
touring on a tandum is one thing. Documenting and creating masterful works of art with your story telling and videos is another. Loving your content and excited to see more!
Loving the series thus far. Look forward to the next one. I've given up trying to get my wife on a tandem. Looks like a ball.
czcams.com/video/6KLlaHdSJAo/video.html
Like doing 1000km on a tandem isn't hard enough, taking care of cameras, drones, batteries and phones all the time must be quite challenging.. well done!
Well on a tandem you do get twice the power for the same cross-sectional area, so I guess it must be quite a bit easier than being on a single bike
@@castortoutnu I'm not sure. the weight plays a role here, they carry lots of stuff with them plus the weight of the bike.
As a single bike rider, I can quite easily pedal these hills, using the right gear of course.
I've heard a term used to described someone who claims that riding a tandem is easier. They are called: "cargo." 😜
You two are awesome, happy trails...
More impressed he has to set the camera down get on the bike, bike past the camera then go back and retrieve it 😂😂😂😂 fair play
It's not so much a TANDEM as it is CONJOINED-UNICYCLES
Good one 😂
Love it!

Missed you guys! This is by far the most cheery, laughter filled, lovely, exciting, uplifting, positive channel on CZcams ever! Please keep them coming. Cheers from Canada
The mythic legend Elijah Lejander is back! But he never left,, our hearts
I just finished a 410 mile cycle-tour of the Oregon coast with a friend a couple weeks ago, so it's super awesome to see Ed doing an epic tour of a similar scale!
How was the traffic along the coast? Any problem with the drivers sharing the roads?
@@wakjagner Traffic was actually a bit better than I was worried it'd be. ODOT (the Oregon Dept. Of Transportation) has made an effort to make the Southbound shoulder wider. For probably 75% of the Oregon coast, the Southbound shoulder is >3ft (>1m) wide. So for most of the trip, sharing the road was a non-issue, as we had our own lane in effect. Other than a couple sketchy tunnels with nearly non-existent sidewalks, and the occasional rude/stupid driver, it was pretty smooth sailing!
@@wakjagner did it a month ago and it's legit. not one bad experience. all the older folks with big rvs all have ebikes and seem to have more empathy. but I've heard getting yelled at everynow and then does happen.
@Ed Pratt: Starting and stopping on a tandem is much easier if the stoker gets fully on the bike (I.e. has both feet on the pedals) while the pilot/captain straddles it and holds it steady. The stoker then back-pedals to bring the cranks to around "2pm" angle on the pilot's leading side. The pilot then pushes off with that foot on the pedal and sits as quickly as possible on his saddle whilst the stoker continues to pedal. Stopping at junctions etc.the pilot puts one foot down and holds the bike while the stoker remains seated and brings the cranks round ready to push off. To get off the bike the pilot puts both feet down straddling the tandem and holds it steady whilst the stoker dismounts.
This technique was taught to me by Pete Bird (of Swallow Tandems). Hope it helps with less wobbly starting and stopping.
Good advice! I assume he's editing this months later... but good advice regardless!
Totally agree. They need to stop trying to "start together," and just let Aishola keep herself firmly on back and let Ed do all the work. As one rider is already ready to go, it's much easier; just the captain has to find one pedal and off you go. And with flats? Piece of cake. It's a bit harder with clipless (or toe clips), but no problem after about the 50th time. It's the way it's done. The Proper Method, Santana, Sheldon Brown, et al say the same thing. And 30 years on a tandem (on and off road, all pedals clipless) have taught me same. Technical single track and everything; I have yet to drop my stoker (knocks on head/wood!).

I love that you can adventure with your partner like this. So nourishing for your soul.
Really could be watching this on BBC2. Brilliantly edited and great to watch.
The cinematography is insane! Incredible video and I really really love your Voiceover! Thank you for your videos!
Just started this series, and just keeps making me smile. Great shot work and editing. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Welcome back Elijah!
It is so good to see you back. And you and Aishola seem the happiest couple. It is heartwarming to see two people cooperating successfully on a common goal and having fun doing it. I wish you both the happiness of today continuing forever. And, BTW, regular visits to the barber make you look strange. I'm so used to the Ed of longhair. No matter, it's great that you and Aishola are back, you make a wonderful couple.
You have captured the hills perfectly. I’m getting flashbacks to my own ride to Lands End along the South coast, pushing my bike up ridiculously steep roads. I can’t wait to watch the rest of your adventure.
Happy to see a new series and adventure! Watching the unicycle series at the start of pandemic lockdowns was a huge push towards doing a tour of my own that I'd been dreaming of for decades, excited to see what the future episodes hold!
I've recently started university in Cornwall just as this came out. I feel like this series was made for me to inspire some of my own adventures in the south west!
Similar with me but I'm in Devon.
You guys are fantastic, can't wait for the rest of the adventure. Enjoy !!
Sometimes I forgot how beautiful england and the UK in general can be since ive lived here my entire life, but I am truely blessed. Would love to do something like this one day :)
New video hype! Good to see you guys again!
I asked in the last video, since parting ways with Great Cycling Man, have you guys kept in touch? If so, how is he? There is zero updates on any of his socials. I hope he is safe and well.
Ahhh the Lynmouth hill, many more to come!!! enjoy
Haha thank you! That’s true, many more ahead!
my mum walked and wildcamped the southwest coast path recently just by herself in her 50s - a reminder that if you haven’t been able to do something like this yet (with work, kids, etc) you haven’t run out of time!

Ed's a true Brit: "The States?! This is the United Kingdom, my dear. This isn't the States"
my dear
@@benjaminturner5613 oh yeah, thanks
Give it time. j/k
Yeah the states would be better :P I'm from Devon too.
Enjoying this series. I've toured before on a loaded bike tourer. It certainly is a lot more fun on a tandem tourer that you all are doing. Keep up the excellent videos!
as a fellow tandem tourer your patience and togetherness is wonderful to watch! wonderful job sharing what the experience is like! got me looking at front hub dynamos!
I visisted the south west so many times on holiday and walked major parts of the coastpath. Its really enjoyable to see you travel through places I myself can recognise.
I dream of doing a tandem tour with my partner. I will be showing her this series. Beautiful as ever, Ed!
I think it's great you two are doing this and it's awesome to see smiling faces. Stay safe out there.
Great 👍. Well done you two, so good to see your adventure well underway. A lovely route through Somerset and on into Devon. The first two camping spots worked out so well, thanks 😊 . Greetings from Scotland 🏴. Cheers, Don 🙋♂️
Hi Ed. I'm not sure whether by now You discovered (or perhaps you don't prefer)...the way we start our tandem is I get ready by getting my leg over and holding the bike steady. Then she gets on and sits in the seat with both feet on the pedals. Then I just push off and we go.
Didn’t know how much I needed eds soothing commentary in my hectic life again
Ed it's great to see you again and so happy with your girlfriend. All the best, enjoying more cycle adventures!
Well done guys!!!!! Very motivating. Thanks for the videos and beautiful imagines of UK coastlines.
I like the rate of release on these videos chap!
What a great adventure. I love all the detail you provide about how you plan and do things (the 1st video too). All made more interesting for me personally as i live in Somerset, recognised many places and know SJS cycles 👍👍
Both of you are perfect for each other! A great episode, and that hill out of Lynmouth is tough even for a cathedral! The peacock at 15:54 must mean you were at hunters Inn. North devon is a great coast line and great to see you exploring it. Thanks for the upload
Keen to follow this adventure. Great work, folks.
Love this! Can't wait for more awesome content, good luck on your journey!
The commitment to master and drone shots just really levels the story telling of your videos up to that next level of professionalism. God bless you, Ed. You're more dedicated than I. Climbing a step hill and then walking back for the camera? Mercy.
Seriously sweet charming relationship. A breath fresh air waiting UK reality tv / married first sight.
Wow, what amazing production value! Beautiful trip!
Woke up to this amazing video in the morning..sat down with a coffee and enjoyed every bit of it.. Awesome adventure as always from Ed..🥰
Great to see new and interesting content Ed. Thanks
Excellent!--Thanks.--so good to see you both again.
15:20: Wowzers! What scenery!
You two look great on the tandem. Seem to be totally jiving together right from the start.
Aishola has the most delightful laugh and makes me smile. You are the perfect match.
She is so sunny!
Lovely to see you on the screen again Ed. You two are so sweet together.
Man, this is legendary! Would absolutely love to ride or walk this one day. Keep it up!
Glad to see you having another journey and with accompany.
Brilliant way to start the day; watch an Ed Pratt video.
Feeling super proud of ya to see your Vegainz.... and was fun to revisit home - the Shire. :)
Great to see you on a bike tour again :) Love your videos!
I just want to say that, I love your contents, we appreciate your effort for setting up the cameras and getting it back hehe. have a nice day or a good night and a good life.
Absolutely amazing! as a devon local it was great to see you cycling some of the great roads Ive grown up with, shame I didnt see this earlier!
So beautiful, all of it. I enjoy this so much. Wil walk part of this route. Been to Land’s End, Penzance, ages ago.
great to see you back & sharing more experiences with your better half ;) very nice video Edd, all the best
Your such a wonderful film maker. So glad you have another serise to watch
Hi Ed, hi Aishola,
what a nice video.
The landscape is super beautiful.
I'm looking forward to the next video with you guys.
Warm greetings
Dagmar😃🚲
I cannot believe you would have literally ridden past my front door.
I'd have gone crazy had I seen you.
Love it. You guys rock. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Inspiring, beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us!
few years ago, i rode my tandem, solo back to Mesa, Az. from Marfa , Texas. 700 miles, see son & budy a quad i roomed with. i left bike an gear to others, many gud rides , but no dates but with son. this vid is great. thanx.
Elijah is back!
You two are such a great team. Thanks for sharing your stories and positive spirits. As a tandem tourist I empathize with the effort of climbing hills. Do you have the lowest approved gearing acceptable for the Rohloff hub? Don't remember what it is off the top of my head. I have a Rohloff on my solo touring/gravel bike and since I am a lighter than average rider I chose to install lower gearing than Rohloff recommends. It is so helpful on a loaded bike. On my tandem I have a 20t front ring and a 34t rear cog on 26" wheels. With that we are able to ride virtually all paved hills.
Great to see that you are out touring together. You gotta be one of the most likeable couples I have come across. So keep going please.
I love your videos Ed, they are inspirational. Thank you.
Stunning scenery. What a great adventure. Safe travels.
Awesome to see you folks on a new adventure :) 1 small bit of feedback, please include the filming dates at the start of each episoe (or day?) - would be cool to know when this was all taking place :)
"both feeling pretty optimistic" Hike a bike scene...... too funny :D nice one
Good luck on your adventures my wife and I also ride a tandem. Be safe out there you both.
Ed... Looks like you're doing your best life!!! Keep it up! Keep the Rubber Side Down! Keep Smiling!
All The Best You Two!!!
Good to see you back Ed!!!
Spring, sunny dry weather, setting off on an adventure, it doesn't get better than that.
Can't wait for the next episode! Keep it coming please.
Super happy you are back in the bike! And two!!! Perfect man
Very cool adventure! Thanks for sharing it!
Just brilliant and fantastic to watch. Thank you.
just starting watching this and I’m loving it!
Great to see you back!
I remember going up and down that hill in Lynmouth by car and that was scary enough, at a 1in4 gradient it is extremely steep and impossible to cycle up with all that extra weight on the tandem. Happy trails guys.
Oh it was a tough old hill haha! Honestly, Ed and I were quite optimistic we could do that haha too optimistic in fact!
Two people two wheels. Makes perfect sense to me. You guys ROCK!!!
Happy and wise happy people. You will have the best vacations ready for many years to come.
That's amazing!!! New subscriber here.. love watching this video so muchhhhh! God bless. Always!
Love the adventure! Nice video!
Again nice to see u back.. love the videos keep safe
Although I prefer the novelty of your unicycling series, the quality filming and editing of this more than makes up for it. Good work!
I have the same pedals as you and found that only the diagonal toe straps from Restrap fit without issue (“normal” ones are for more square pedals) - you can attach them using the studs on the pedals!
I'm just happy seeing you both together.
Whoooow nice traveling. Thanks for the video
You can build up speed in no times when you're downhill, take care both of you guys, and have lots of fun!
Hey guys, great video. Something like this requires patience and team work.
Hello. I am a girl riding a bicycle in Korea. Congrats on riding a bike for 1000km.👍🙋♀️👍👍👩
Fantastic watching you cycling very beautiful but challenging terrain that my wife and I have also cycled on our Thorn tandem, from Minehead through to Porlock weir toll road though thankfully we cycled down that road I recall it being quite a rough road. Pity you didn’t video the decent down into Lynmouth but I guess you both needed to concentrate as it’s thrilling and scary at the same time. Having tried cycling out of Lynmouth up that 25% road we found pushing the tandem up the path that follows the cliff railway up to Lynton A better option.
Love the tent! I have the hubba! Wish i had gone for that hubba hubba!
Ah man! I love this SO much! More more more please! How do you like your tandem? Do you feel that you are going faster as opposed to a single bike? Do you bring along extra tubes (for just in case)? Which tent did you bring and would you recommend it? Eager to learn from you guys. Thanks!
I appreciate such people.... They do what they love. At the end they find purpose of life. How life should be enjoyed
Props to you two. Aishola is impressive, her english is improving rapid. And I don't know many girls, who would go on such an adventure :)
And her wonderful accent is coming along quite nicely as well. Much more British than when we were first introduced to her.
That rock bit was funny. Ed is so used to the greenery of the UK, that gray rocks and shallow plains entices him LOL
Everything besides the rocks was supposed to be the amazing parts
