Thank you Harri for your brilliant reaction. 👏👏👏👏 The feeling I get when I hear this song is just as you experienced. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Melody, Fender Rhodes, lyrics, strings, horns, sax, smooth, reminiscing and takes you to a happier place and time. Well done Sir Harri - Sultan of Reactions.

The sheer transformative nature of this song is astonishingly unbelievable. The production had to master and correlate with the intensely personal feel of the lyrics. A masterpiece with e ery note placed in as delicately as a newborn in a bassinet. It moves the heart whilst you feel you need to be still as death itself so as not to miss a moment.

The harmonic and overall intelligent content of this tune is at a super high level, especially for a pop song, and especially compared to what's out there now. As you allude to, coming out of the bridge with the strings, flute and then that perfect, soulful sax (Michael Brecker, RIP), the song takes you to another level. I'm glad you liked it so much.

This is from Paul's 4th album with the same title, from 1975. Such a great album with 4 hits in the top 40 and winner of 2 Grammys. This is so beautiful with an addictive melody and wonderful lyrics that bring up nostalgic sentiments that could apply to anyone. The orchestral backing phenomenal with the sax solo being the icing on the cake. One of his best songs. Made it to Number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100's and Number 38 in Canada. Great reaction Harri. 😊

This is the best song he's ever written. You can't even follow it, if you're used to being in a key. At the intro, a couple measures don't even tell you where you'll start at the first verse. Then, he goes off in a totally different key with the strings and flute before returning to the original key. But, if you're used to a standard dominant-to-tonic cadence, it ain't there. This song was really thought about a long time. This wasn't thrown together quickly. It's brilliant. I don't even like Paul Simon, typically, but this is one of my favorite songs. It's a masterpiece.

Carrie Fisher later came in his life during the 80s.
And during the time when his film "One Trick Pony" became a flop. And later he worked on the "Heart And Bones" album that also didn't work out. And his marriage with Carrie was ruined because of her

Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" came out in 1965. I was 8. A teacher in my school was a fan and played this song in class. Next year I will have been a fan of Paul Simon for 60 years. This incredible artist help define an era. And then, instead of disappearing into obscurity, redefined himself and his music again and again. He is still relevant and producing a brand new Paul Simon for the world to love.

When I saw Simon & Garfunkel, Live, in autumn of 2003, Chicago, they did “American Tune” as part of their set. Silent reverence for Garfunkel, during “Bridge”. And, singing with the Everly Brothers!

Great song and to top it off, the legend Michael Brecker on that sax solo . And 100% agree about the Fender Rhodes.

Harri, you like Karen Carpenter (as do I); you might be interested to know that she covered this song on her 1979-80 solo recording...

I just absolutely adore Paul Simon’s music. Please give a listen to his song One Trick Pony. It’s a song from a movie he was in 1980 of the same name. It’s actually a very good film. Highly recommended it.

In a sea of three chord wonders, with loud screaming and fast fingers and all the trivial sensationalism, Paul Simon is the rescue ship with musical champagne and 4 different keys and jazz chords including fully diminished chords, unashamed to use a slow tempo and get a REAL message across about the human condition with well written music and lyrics that still has a hook. Many of today's listeners won't listen to this because the have been weened on musical garbage that speaks of the superficial that hides behind computerized sound effects that passes for music. Occasionally there is a real writer and musician that shines through the fake stuff.
