  • Before he left to go overseas Joe was told by his grandfather White Man Runs Him that he must perform four war deeds in order to become a war chief. Among them was to kill or capture an enemy soldier in hand to hand combat and capture enemy horses. Upon his arrival back in the states, Joe reported that the deeds had been accomplished and his grandfather and other tribal elders immediately granted him war chief status.

Nice! I've heard that his son (probably your grandpa) did almost the same but he didn't steal horses, just elephants, so he didn't get the warlord title?

A man among men. I can only begin to imagine the prejedicious, racism, and abuse this very honorable man was subjected to! Yet, he had the integrity, courage, and conviction to do the right thing to save his fellow soldiers even though his country treated him and his people very poorly. I am astounded and amazed by the stories of these men who rose above the hate projected at them and did the honorable thing although it meant possible death. I salute you sir and I wish I could show you the respect I have for you! Semper fi, JR, CWO, USMC (Retired)

We're just gonna forget and ignore that there was discrimination for minorities back then even though its part of our (dark) history? This shouldn't be about politics, its history! Everyone should learn this as a moral lesson so that it wont be repeated again. Why the disrespect?
