I don't really see much controversy here. Frank was sued and probably did not know about it. A guy bought something off Frank but Frank never cashed the check so He probably never got the check. Daniel had some minor tax issue to the tune of 6K? Really that much dirt, wow. Seems like a pretty clean and decent bunch of folks....

Except that Danielle will probably go to jail if she doesn't pay her back taxes, yet Al Sharpton who owes $4.5 million will run around free.

So if he never got the cheque, he never cashed it, so the money never was taken from the other guys account. So how is that ripping him off?

Lawyers, that's how.Assuming Frank paid the thousand dollar default judgment - and he might not have - that was probably still cheaper than going to court for him.

spacewurm You do realize these shows and pretty much all reality TV is staged . This stuff is fake. But it gets good ratings, so the networks keep pumping it out. If Neilson ratings forecast a favorable market share for a show watching animals poop, it would be on this fall. Honey Boo Boo was a perfect example. Combining the aforementioned shows was just lighthearted conversation. You're most likely correct. They are probably on different networks. Please feel free to share anything else you feel so adamantly about.

    • @billsmith8825
      @billsmith8825 Před 4 lety +8

They mostly deal with elderly people because elderly people have been around long enough to collect up enough junk to be worth going through. People in their thirties don't have that kind of junk unless they inherited it. They continually tell people, I can't pay that much for the item because I have to resell it. If I were going to put it in my store, I would have a price tag of $300 on it. That means I need to buy it for about 150 or $200 in order to make enough profit. It's not like they're hiding anything.

Btw, Robert "Prince Mongo" Hodges is the real deal. I interviewed him for my high school paper around 1981-1982. Which was when he first tried to run for mayor - not in 1991 as the video states. By the early 2000s, I was working in the grocery business in his neighborhood. The kids were always freaked out by Prince Mongo, since he was not in the news as much by then.

A big quibble I have with the show is that it depicts he boys traveling hundreds of miles to buy a few items that will net them about $50. There's just no way you could stay in business, especially since gas alone would eat up any profit. Unless the boys are earning their living by doing the TV show, their business would have been belly up a long time ago.
As for people saying the boys are ripping people off, a retail operation really can't afford to pay more than 50% of what it's going to sell the item for. And that's not even factoring in the cost of storage and the fact that they could wind up with something they might never sell. Think about how much junk they have to sell just to pay Danielle's salary!

There are two shows. Hoarders, which tells you to toss all your junk and Pickers which tells you to keep all of it. They should alternate them in a confusing marathon. Pickers is confusing enough. They visit some guy with a house, three barns, six outbuildings and 10 acres all filled with rotting crap and they buy three things for 100 bucks. Makes it look like Hoarders was right all along.

  • @MrMikebutkus

Pickers visited a closed amusement park just down the road from where we go to the mall. They bought some very old posters to help the guy re-open the park. As of Sept. 2016, it's still closed. When we drove by, the grass was cut. The place is clean, so someone is keeping the place together. I was visiting an antique store in York, PA Aug, 2016. Walk in and there is a photo of the pickers and the store owner ! In asking, they stopped at the owners' friend's location. After, they visited her store. She said they were the nicest people ever. The crew and all were all so nice. So nice to see a reality show that real !

I love this show for the Americana, for seeing all of the places they go, the characters they meet. I am sorry a lot of you don't know what it takes to make a show like this and want to call "Fake!". The only thing that grinds me is when they get something wrong, like, a '68 Road Runner they said was a '70, it had a 440, which was NOT the original motor and was a rust bucket, the guy agreed to pay $6500? I restored a '68 GTX, that Road Runner would cost $30K to restore and might bring $30K at auction....

I hate modern History Channel, but honestly after watching it a few times, American Pickers is the only show I can stand. Sure like any reality TV show there's scripted parts, and they're always pimping for Ford, it can be a fun watch though. While it's nothing compared to older shows it's also one of the only current running series that does sprinkle in dashes of history for items they may find. It's a shame what happened to the channel, but this show isn't all bad. Also, especially after watching this- Mike seems like a genuinely decent human being.

+prizebandrocks burlesque dancing isn't far from stripping, the dancers just retain most of their underwear and dignity. women are worth so much more than just their sweaty parts. you can find plenty of that elsewhere on the web. if danielle were to drop her knickers publicly, it could potentialy damage her relationship with the history channel, and ergo the show. sorry, you'll probably have to keep using your imagination.

I don't think Frank means to be a creep, I think maybe he's not had much in the way of pussy and it reflects in his demeanour and therefore girls don't really go for him . And I think it's a vicious cycle . He might be a nice guy but can't express himself to a women. Maybe he should pay a few strippers for a private dance and a Ho, for a bang. Get the sex thing out of his system perhaps ., if he don't look at women with Sex on the mind then perhaps he might think more about talking to her as a person rather than a desperado dying for a shag . Women pick things like that up .

I was dating a comedian back in the early 90s.. She was an opening act at the High Sierra Hotel on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, for Tempest Storm.. Though Tempest was very old.. she had a body a 20 year old would of died for...
It was Christmas Eve and My Girlfriend and I were invited to Tempest Storms suite at the High Sierra Hotel. Man that's a Christmas I'll never forget. I was the only male, in a room full of Tempests.. back up dancers... Just so beautiful... on the wall were pictures of Tempest's past friends.. including Elvis.. I sat next to Tempest on one side and my GF on the other.. I looked at her arms.. and they were smooth till you got to her wrists where her age really showed...
All I can say.. is that night and that party is one I'll never forget.. To see her in this video was a jaw dropper for sure.

Ya know a couple folks were saying they buy for $300. bucks then it shows value at $900. As Mike explains during the show many times over, I'm gonna ask $900., but the buyer is going to try and get me down. So he may end up selling for $700. Make $400. who is paying for the travel expenses? today the TV people but before that it was catch as catch can. If everyone here watched all the shows they would also find that Mike has bought things and given them to someone else. Mike is a people person. Frank on the other hand is far from a people person. He is on a free ride. It seems a case of Mike taking pity on his chubby little grammar school friend. His intention is to double his money, but if you notice most of the bought vs. value don't make double. And he has helped quite a few of the folks get organized to sell at auction. I take Mike's brother over Frank any day. But Rob has to soften up and get rid of the tough guy approach towards customer's. Remmeber this is just my opinion.

I never saw the show. In the conversation we struck up I asked whether he was on vacation. "No"...he said..."I'm working". I asked what he did. He said he worked for HBO. "Oh"...I said..."are you an engineer or in production"? "No"..he said..."I have a program". Pretty soon it was obvious he was a TV star because people kept coming up to him asking for an autograph. For the few minutes I talked to him he seemed like a "regular guy". Easy to talk to and very friendly. Certainly not the "insular" kind of TV/Movie star I thought they all were.

I have never seen anything wrong with people selling for 3 or even 4 times mark up.... Unless it's obviously outrageous where they are 'corner profiteering'. Where a business you are dealing with is marking it up 20 times or better knowing they are the only source! I whole heatedly support businesses like Antique Archeology! And in fact there are many times when they buy something at a low price ,to later realize that the item is worth more and they give the person the more money.
