Whitley's alcoholism was known through much of the country music community, and after he married Lorrie Morgan, she tried to help the singer overcome his addiction. The news of Whitley's death on May 9, 1989, shook the country world, especially when the cause of death was discovered to be his alcohol dependency. His song is a singer now. He sometimes sings with his mother Lorrie Morgan. Vince Gill started to write a song about his death but couldn't finish it until Vince's brother passed away

I’m not sure if you have been made aware of the fact that this man is who Vince Gill was singing about when he wrote Go Rest High on That Mountain. He references my personal all time favorite song which is titled I’m No Stranger To The Rain. Also would be a shame not to visit the duet version of this song with Allison Krauss. Who I would best describe as the female equivalent of Vince Gill.
