    I worked for a guy around 30 years ago who had one of these, and I had the pleasure of driving it several times, over empty fast country roads. I remember a fast great handling car, and would happily own one now as I would have then?

      The Best Or Nothing! These BMWs are overrated in those like the M3, M5 etc
      W202, W124, W210 had crazy AMGs back then! Like C36 AMG, C43 AMG, E36 AMG (W124, W210), E50 AMG, E60 AMG (W124, W210) and E55 AMG till 2001. ! Those ugly BMWs would lose to Mercedes.

    Have long wanted an E34 M5. Even more than the vaunted E39. You’re very lucky to have driven a Euro spec one as well... that HP increase you mentioned didn’t make it past US regulators at the time so grey market cars with the Euro motor are desirable... provided they’re properly documented.
    They were also available as a unicorn... an E34 M5 “Touring” or wagon. Manual gearbox, 300-odd HP, sport suspension, brakes, mechanical LSD, hand built by M GmbH. Those suckers go for a pretty penny now.
    Sadly, I needed a daily, hence the Chevy SS. I couldn’t bring myself to trash an E34 on country roads and gravel with my daily grind. Wrapped the SS in Xpel and it’s nice to have a little less exotic, less collectible, but still fun-to-drive car I can daily and not stress about. Obviously mine has a row-your-own 3-pedal ‘box and of course the SS is a proper RWD performance sedan in terms of handling. Baselined against BMWs, even using their chassis engineers, it doesn’t handle like an American pig; it’s an Australian-built marriage of American power with European refinement and handling.
    Anyway... still want to collect an E34 M5 someday. They’re beautiful cars with a fantastic engine and the best chassis engineering you could get at that time.

      Great driving and handling Commodore ss, even here in Aus, people underestimate the Commodore which was Holden billion dollar baby(apparently). Chassis is so good that even the sv6 model is a great drivers car that doesn't get much credit either way, because of HSV models that look as good as Amgs'.

      @07wmtc Před 6 lety +4

      @ Tonyisgaming. So you mean, without Giorgi (RIP by the way), the E34 M5 would not be an icon?!!!!! The E34 M5 was already an icon like the W124 500E/E500, and way, way before youtube was born. The E34 M5 had a racing engine in it and, was hand built, there will be no M5 like that. True car enthusiats, know that car whether they like it or not, and others do not even know the existence of M5 older than the F10/E60/E39.

    "this was the fastest production german sedan of its time". Not entirely true, specially during that '92 year. The Opel/Lotus Omega (Vauxhall Lotus Carlton) (1990-1992) was faster to 60 (~5.2s), had higher top speed (~176 mph - because no 155 limiter), and a more powerful engine (377 bhp).

    Today's BMWs are full or issues and software glitches, even the plastics in the cabin fail.
    The E34 series was better quality, but some of the aerodynamics suck. I remember the rearview mirros contantly getting dirty and the windshield wipers lifting at Autobahn speeds. Also fuel consumption on that 525 tds was worlds apart from what the factory promised.

    As an E34 M5 owner I have to say this review is bad. The after 92 340hp has 0-62 time of 5.9sec. The Chassis control on that car is phenominal.... and it grips as fuck.... you can see plenty of them tearing up tarmac on the Nordschleife and you can get sub 8 minutes in this beast stock (But after that you need new brakes). They are also pretty driftable! And that linear powerband makes it also perfect to accelerate out of corners. Something that in Turbo time is a bit neglected.

    • @lachlanbrown409
      @lachlanbrown409 Před rokem

      You could get 8 minutes out of the car sure but not without heavy modifications. The standard E92 m3 took 8 minutes 15 seconds.
