On a side note, nowadays, always knock your car front hood, so that the cats under your car know when it is time to get out of there. You would then avoid them to get accidentally killed: electric and hybrid cars are really quiet when you start them

I remember shocking myself and seeing the bolt. I just woke up in my room with it being completely dark, went to scratch my nose and ouch. I saw a small flash and the the zap to my nose. It didn't get rid of the itch.
Blankets and carpets do it too. It's very mundane lol. I guess this video is more of a reminder. đ
@@kurtsudheim825 I mean, it can also be that cats roll around in the carpet and build up static electricity themselves. I have a short dog who loves having zoomies on the couch and carpet and then rolling around on it, so whenever I pet him thereâs a tiny shock at first lol
I had a pure white cat many decades ago. My friends and I would turn off all the lights and give her a good rub down, getting a fantastic light show, as the sparks would reflect off her fur.

@@patlynn2418 She gave me no choice, as she wanted pets. Besides, I was the one experiencing the shock. The sparks were occurring in her fur and never touched her skin.

@@DextroRez That was 30 years ago. When we moved to Los Angeles, the constant humidity made it a non-issue. She has since moved on to Kitty Heaven.
Just donât try to boop your catâs nose after petting it during cold, dry weather. A static charge (yes, visible) may occur making a painful impression on them.
@Bia Oliveira definitely. Itâs painful for them as they back away quickly. That wet nose conducts charge well.

The worst pop is on the ear tips or nose. They look at you all irritated, as if asking why, WHY? Iâve always told my cats itâs static electricity. Soon they realize that I still love them.
My cat told me if I shocked him again he'd shock my whole life. So I didn't test that thugg. đ đ

Agreed : We do apologize to our cats for shocking them. Don't use dryer sheets on them like I've seen mentioned. A very light misting of water does work. I'll give you one you didn't know. If you peel the paper off of a high-quality Band-Aid in the dead dark you will see it glow

YES! I accidentally snapped my kitty's nose. Dogs or any furred animal will pick up static changes while walking around on the carpet.
Stay connected when petting your furred friends hold their paw. The snap wont happen.

My Kitty would often light up with static electricity zaps when I would pet her-it was particularly flashy when she was rubbing/rolling/kneading a particular blanket. She noticed, but never stopped nursing the blanket.
Put one hand under the pad of one of the paws. This gives a path for static to discharge and there will be no cat zapping when you stroke it.
This happens a lot since I have a fluffy cat đand a short haired cat. đ

I use to get static electricity in me, off my parent's carpet and then get shocked by the aluminum Christmas tree! Yeah, cats have that issue too.
This is why petting cats in the dry winter is not fun for long, but the tussled fur looks interesting.

Everybody who ever rubbed a balloon on their hair as an elementary school science experiment should be well aware. Static charges are like THE MOST BASIC of electrical theory. This is why my ESD strap is gonna be doing double-duty. (I'm pretty sure my boys don't care that it's mainly to keep my circuit boards safe.)

The biting when petting thing can also be from activating a hunting reflex. I don't remember the specifics, but sometimes when you're petting your cat, a different switch is flipped.

You can also see lightning in your blanket when you move it in the dark. Also, when you walk across a carpet can create that electricity but before you touch anything, you can rid it I think by rubbing your hands together. This happened most often in California in my case as compared to the East Coast.

I did know this one. It was hard to refute when I pet my cat and static discharges on her ear, then nothing, then pet, ear shock, pet, ear shock. I started to feel bad and would avoid her head when petting to avoid discharging. But then Iâd pet for a while and sheâd bring her head to my hand and a large shock would discharge on either her ear, nose or chin and I felt awful. It even hurt me and those areas are more sensitive on her. It was such a large shock that it would LIGHT UP!
(Oh the base of her tail can be shocked too so I avoid that spot too-and the tip of the tail.)
When its warmer the static builds up faster so during winter when I got the heat on Iâm accidentally always shocking them
