    Hey Eric thanks for the video. I just installed mine a few days ago. I was ‘all in’ w Nest and decided I prefer HSV and replaced a Nest Hello doorbell. So far I really like it and find it fast and fluid to use. We have homepods around the house instead of a traditional chime and it works great. Keep up the great work!

    I’ve got this doorbell cam and love it. My doorbell wiring is in the corner and I love how Logitech adds a slanted mounting bracket. It works great. Like Eric, my flag kept setting off the motion sensor, but like I said earlier, other than that it’s clear, looks great and works perfectly.

  • @bretttstewart

    I really like this doorbell. It’s the first video doorbell I have since I was waiting for an affordable HomeKit option. I have two doors with doorbells, which were wired together into the chime. I was able to get two of the Logitech doorbells to work on the same circuit by wiring them both into the same Logitech chime box (that comes with the doorbell). I did have to upgrade my doorbell transformer from 10W to 30W, which was fun finding in my 70 year old home. But I can confirm that it does work.
    I am able to see the preview on my Apple Watch, but it just takes a long time. The thumbnail first appears as a blank black box. I’ve had problems where the notification doesn’t come up on my TV, but that isn’t too big of a problem. I also wish you could have better control over which notifications you get without it affecting the doorbell notification. On one of my doorbells I don’t want activity notifications when I’m not home, but if I turn them off, I also don’t get doorbell notifications.
    I also live near Chicago, and I have a Circle View camera that I installed before the polar vortex a couple years ago. When temperatures were around -20F, the video came back purple hued and stayed that way for a week. But when the temperatures recovered the video came back fine. I would expect the doorbell to do about the same thing.

    Nice review, thanks. I just bought a home...my last home was a rental and I was very happy with the Ring doorbell; I left it there for someone else to use and I was hoping, now that I have my own house, to build a more automated home. I'm also all in on Apple. I was pleased to know there's a native HomeKit-compatible doorbell. After watching this, I'm going to get one.

    I'm using the Maximus Answer Dual cam doorbell..it works great..I especially like that it plays pre recorded or custom message's when it detects motion or when someone pressing the doorbell..another good feature is it has a top 1080p hdr cam and a second cam that faces downward so u can see packages that are directly close to your door..and the people detection is spot on and records about 10secs before motion is detected and u get a live snapshot preview of motion detected..

    I referred back to this clip because I finally disconnected my “Ring” and installed a Logi.,doorbell. Your info is always good Eric. My big negative issue with the Logi is I can’t set lights too come on and off using the “Activity Zone”. It activates my lights every time a car goes by 30m away. After 1.5 hours of support from Apple it finally worked as intended. Then, 4 hours later, it went back to the negative issue. So, I have now installed an Aqara P1 motion sensor under my eves and my lights now activate just like I want them to. Thanks to Aqara.

    Thanks a lot for the update Eric; I came to this video to find an answer about my Apple TV which doesn't show video feed from this doorbell. Rest of my devices do, but for some reason ATV doesn't, (rest of functionality are ok, if somebody rings, it pops up PIP image or if I ask Siri through the controller, it shows the doorbell (but with black video)).
    Everything is updated to last version, Any idea??

    Excellent video, as always, Eric. Re: not getting rich notifications on the Apple Watch, it’s not just this doorbell camera. Same holds true for all my Logitech Circle 2’s in HomeKit. Seems like it’s either a bug or Apple dropped it with iOS14 somewhere. I’m getting rich notifications with the Nest and Logi app so must have something to do with HomeKit not pushing properly to the watch. When you mentioned that in the video, it turned me off from this product but have a feeling it will come back eventually. Only thing is, there’s no third party app to fall back on.

  • @Dr_Cole
    @Dr_Cole Před 2 lety

    Hi Eric. I just finished installing this doorbell over the the last two days. After the first installation by my contractor, I was having some functionality issues including that the doorbell chime did not play on my HomePods and that a live feed of the video almost never worked. When I presented these symptoms to the FaceBook HomeKit group I am in, a few people immediately suggested that this was because I was not on a 24v transformer.
    Logitech rates transformers down to 8v as sufficient. However, given the experience of the FB community and myself, I strongly suggest ensuring you have a 24v transformer. As soon as my contractor made the switch, every problematic issue I was having went away instantly. I have had zero issues since then.
    The only other consideration for this and any video doorbell (I came from a Gen 1 Ring doorbell) is your notification setup. I forgot that I had turned off all notifications from Ring, save the ring of the doorbell itself. I am now back to getting notices all day long, including from people leaving the house. I would love to see either HK or Logitech all for a way to filter out videos when it notices the direction of the people moving from the house to the outside. All in all, I get about 30-40 notifications per day from the doorbell, and there’s no way I will keep these notices on long term.

    Loved this when I first got it, but now it goes offline everyday for about 30 minutes (when sun hits my house). There's nowhere else to place it, as I'm in a townhome.
    And once a week, it just overheats for no reason, not even cooling down overnight. Logitech support has been useless, just saying I should get an "eave or mechanism to provide shade." Any idea here of third party tools that could help with this? Or would you recommend replacing it with something like the Neatamo?

    Hmm, I was good to replacing mine with this one but now I am concerned about the temperature since the front of my house take on the sun all afternoon. We just had a few days of 80 Fahrenheit and the one I have handles the heat ok. I was hoping to use the homekit for the secure video and not rely on a micro SD card in the door bell. Maybe version 2 will be white, and not glass and handle outside summer temps better? Premium look and feel like glass is nice, but functionality and usability since this can be part of your home security is more important. Thanks for the temp info and your findings/thoughts.

  • @uniqueflh2941

    Thanks for the update Eric. Good info as usual.
    I’ve held-off on grabbing one since seeing the reports of the overheating issues (my front door gets direct sunlight for much of the afternoon).
    - I was wondering if a DIY fix could be implemented to possibly minimize the overheating...
    As the doorbell is black, it’s going to naturally absorb heat from the sun. So. If you were to use a lighter colored vinyl overlay, I wonder if that would help at all. A simple ‘sticker’ that was cut to accommodate the camera, light & sensors...but covers the ‘body’ of the device MIGHT help a bit. Vinyl in white, tan, gray - or possibly reflective/chrome would maybe minimize the heat absorption from sunlight. I don’t expect that it would completely solve the problem, but it may give a bit longer operational time. Plus, it could make the device better match the exterior of the home.
    I’m currently waiting on my Reolink NVR & cameras to arrive - replacing my old PoE camera system. Going to try to figure out how to integrate the new system into HomeKit via HomeBridge. When (well, IF) I get that to work...I want to try to find an automated solution using a motion sensor to trigger a doorbell-type notification. Not sure how that’ll actually work.
    Anyway.
    Thanks again. Keep the videos coming.

  • @Polkster13
    @Polkster13 Před 3 lety +1

    You can put a smart switch on the outside porch ceiling light and then when the camera detects motion, you can do an automation to turn on the porch light. You can also set a timer on the automation to turn it off after a set amount of time, say 10 or 20 minutes, for instance. If I had one of these, that is what I would do. I would not leave the porch light on all night unless I had a dimmer on the light. Then I could set the light to a much lower light setting and only turn it up to full strength when the camera detected motion. Just a thought to consider.

    • @EricWelander
      @EricWelander  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I like these ideas. I probably could save on energy by turning that porch light off until needed like this. Mine is already on a Lutron Caseta (non-dimmer) switch.

  • @GadgetReviewVideos
    @GadgetReviewVideos Před 3 lety

    I wonder about the operating temp? I know HDR uses a lot of processing power. So can you automate to disable HDR during the day, and turn it on at nigh? I know HDR can drastically increase video quality at night when using ambient light like from a porch light. Just a thought and maybe during the day without HDR with sun beating on it, just maybe it will run cooler?

    You mention the EVE app and unlocking some additional features in HomeKIt devices.
    Can you access the Light (Lux) sensor in the Logitech Circle View Video Doorbell? You mention being able to access the Doorbell itself and how many pushes.
    Can things be triggered when the exterior light level falls below a certain Lux value? For instance in the daytime if it gets cloudy or stormy or rainy (Yes it is raining hard in Southern California as i type this) and it gets dark outside can I automatically trigger my exterior lights to come on?
    How would I access that sort of control using EVE? If not is there an available Homekit Light sensor?
    Thank you so much for the informative and zero fluff videos. I am really glad I stumbled across the Logitech Video Doorbell when designing a total Smart Home configuration for our new construction Granny Flat or ADU (Auxiliary Dwelling Unit) here in San Diego. I did have to upgrade my iCloud storage to 200GB to access some features but no big deal.

    I'm waiting on my 3rd replacement under warranty, the symptoms have been it disconnects then reconnects, eventually it disconnects and wont' reconnect to the wifi AND it's actually factory reset itself, so you have to readd to homekit, logitech replaced that first one, the replacement lasted 2 weeks, and failed, it wouldn't even factory reset, it's bricked, they are replacing again. Here's my question, of the two wires connecting to the doorbell cam, the instructions don't say if the top one should go to to the chime or transformer, and vice versa, it works both ways, BUT, I'm wondering if that's causing the premature failure. Also the doorbell will lose connection even when plugged into the wall, which eliminated the house wiring as part of the problem, and my wifi (orbi) mesh system, is located 10 feet from the front door, very strong wifi signal.

Even tho I’m a HomeKit user and would like a HomeKit compatible doorbell, I personally wouldn’t trade the Eufy out for this Logitech, the Eufy has better features/functionality in my option.

    Something I discovered that is pretty disappointing to me is that Activity Zones do not work with motion detection automations.
    I had set up a motion detection automation that would play a sound on my Homepod whenever motion was detected on my front porch. I expected that this would only happen when motion was detected within the activity zones. However, it was working whenever motion was detected anywhere within the camera's view. I assumed that the activity zones just weren't working until I found this Apple Support article:

    I purchased and installed the Logitech doorbell about a week ago. I really like it because I can view it from any of my Macs or my iPhone. I haven't figured out how to get it to show up on my Apple TV but I'm going to try signing out of iCloud and signing back in to see if that gets the video to show up. I would like to install 3 or 4 more HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) cameras in the near future. This is just what I've been waiting for namely home security camera capability without privacy issues.
    Following up - logging out of iCloud and logging back in solved the issue of video not showing up on the Apple TV when the doorbell rings. Now the video pops up and you can see who is at the door but as far as I know you cannot speak to them. I'll look into that next. Also the video is only on one ATV but I would like the video to show up on all ATVs.

      On the Siri Remote for your Apple TV, hold down the Home button (the one that looks like a TV Monitor) until Control Center slides in from the right on the tv, it should happen within a second or so. Then choose the Home icon and it should show up there. For this to work, I believe you might have to have the camera setup as a favorite within the Home app first... hope this helps.
