An important point most reviewers miss is the voltage requirements. A Wemo needs a 16-24V system. Logitech can go down to a 5V system. I have not bought either, but leaning towards the Logitech. Thanks for the great video.

Eric, you really shouldn't recommend the Wemo video doorbell. I bought it after your recommendation and spent 7 hours of my life trying to connect the device without success. Apple Tech couldn't figure it out and Belkin doesn't provide support the product. On that glorious day when Apple decides to kick-off it off the HomeKit platform comes like it does frequently, a lot of owners will be stranded.

I had a problem with my Wemo dropping from my network, needing to be restarted every few weeks. Wemo advised me last week to “split” my 2.4 and 5G networks. I had them tied together as a single network in my Netgear Nighthawk setup. No issues since. Firmware update forthcoming confirmed by Wemo.
Hoping the firmware update are addresses the sensitive motion detector too.

My entire house is run via HomeKit... except my doorbell and other cameras, which are Nest. My reason for staying with Nest with those is that they are the only camera option I could find that records 24/7 and marks motions. Plus, I can use geo-location on my phone to turn on/off interior cameras based on whether or not I'm home. The others only record motion. Having full footage is something that I want... and that footage has already come in handy. So, using Google/Nest for the cameras is something that I will stay with for the time-being. With that said... interesting problem has popped up using Siri commands recently. I use a series of HomePods and HomePod Minis as microphones throughout my house. Up until a few weeks ago, when I gave a command, it executed immediately. Now, it delays... Siri responds that the lights/accessories are being slow to respond... then the command happens. I'm assuming an upgrade did something, but have no clue. First time I have ever had problems using Siri voice commands. If I go to the Hue app and just hit the option I want, it works immediately.

I came across this video and was really surprised I just lived this. I decided to order the Logitech doorbell because I was drawn to its design and reputation for 24/7 video. However, despite seeking assistance from Logitech's support team, it disconnected from my home hub around 20 times a day. After struggling for 22 days to resolve the issue, I returned it to Amazon and opted for the Belkin doorbell. It's been two months now, and I haven't encountered any problems with the Belkin doorbell; it connected seamlessly to my Wi-Fi. Although I don't have any special characters in my Wi-Fi password, I live in a rural area where such complexity isn't necessary. I really liked the Logitech's night vision and design; it seemed like the superior doorbell, but it just didn't function correctly. I live in an area with hot summers, and even though it wasn't exposed to direct sunlight, I suspect it was overheating. The day I took it down was scorching!"

I have the Logitech Circle View doorbell, mine is under an awning so I don’t have overheating issues but it does seem to have some stability issues on my network, so I had an electrician isolate the doorbell circuit and add an electrical on/off switch so I can power cycle it when there seems to be an issue. I should also mention there are third party mounting options for mounting on vinyl siding that compensate for the angle, ensuring the unit is completely vertical. Perhaps Logitech could sell trim kits in white or silver to reduce the units overall temperature for those having overheating issues, or for those where black is too unattractive.

Here in the UK in May 2023 the ONLY Apple Home compatible doorbell is Netatmo. I would have purchased the Logitech but they do not sell it here. The Netatmo works well with Apple home. I fitted it with a wired transformer and a regular doorbell chime so that it sounds normal. It stores video on an internal card. It's quite large and comes with a wedge so it can be fitted at an angle to get a better view. Only had it for 7 weeks.

I installed the Wemo last month and it's still going strong without any drop-outs. I was concerned about overheating since in our condo the midday sun reaches it even with an overhang. I have never had the doorbell shut off but I noticed the aforementioned midday sun -along with entryway stonework causes a false package detected message. In any case, this is more of a Homekit thing (package detection) and not the doorbell itself.

I have to disagree with your take on the doorbells. There’s no way I could endorse a product that forces a wifi passcode to use a less secure format. (No special characters). That’s a HUGE flaw imo and one that shouldn’t be brushed aside as minor. Also noticed a post today on the Reddit HK group w reporting a Wemo doorbell overheating. (Circumstances unknown).
The Logitech isn’t perfect by any means but I’m in SC and my SE facing front door/porch gets blasted with direct sun until about 11am. No overheating issues yet. The CV gives better video quality (which is what I bought a camera for In The first place….) and works perfectly with my existing chime, and the HomePods.

Now that’s true security. Like you’ve got 4th and 5th eyes that stretch out around your personal perimeter always ready to toss an alert up on the screen that matters the most. The screen your watching right before a group of men rush your home.

No specific pattern or event that seems to break it. I thought my mesh wifi (Asus) was part of the issue but bonding it to a specific node (while working) doesn't seem to help. Thanks for another great review. I’ve had the Logitech for almost a year. It is on my front porch, which faces mostly east and gets blasted with a hot mid Atlantic US sun. Never had it go offline other than when the power has gone out. I do wish that the Logitech had more vertical field of view, because I cannot see when packages are within 3 feet of my front door. Also, there is a substantial delay (I’ll estimate 5+ seconds) between when a person comes into view and when the doorbell notifies me on my iPhone and AppleTV 4K, resulting in me getting a notice that someone is at the door but they’ve already come and gone. The chime setup was clearly laid out in the instructions but, yeah, the adapter box had to be mounted outside of my chime box. Also, I tried not installing the chime adapter at first - bad idea as the chime box was continually drawing power.

ALL of my Homekit devices, including cameras, re-connect automatically except for the Wemo doorbell. Having a ring camera/alarm/doorbell setup with eero has your mesh Wi-Fi is hands down the best overall setup there is. There’s better cameras, better doorbells, better mesh Wi-Fi, don’t know about better alarm though. Individually ring and eero make pretty solid products but can be beaten one on one. But there’s no other system that works so beautifully together like ring cameras/alarm/doorbell with eero for Wi-Fi.

Just the fact that you have to make your entire WiFi less secure by eliminating all the special characters is a reason to skip the Wemo doorbell. That’s a very sad security threat that you’d think a doorbell company would have in mind. Reducing the character set of WiFi passwords is not a compromise I’d be willing to make to have a less secure doorbell and less secure WiFi.
