I would have like to see a head-to-head comparison between the Core and the Core Max for pinball, as I can't imagine there is any noticeable difference between the two models for the arcade games. Updated: I have a Legends Pro and Legends Pinball table. Their weak QC for firmware and the need to sign in every 5th time to play CoinOps X has kind of killed a lot of my enthusiasm. If AtGames were to have network issues, or fold- stuck with a paper weight. At least my pinball tables are linked to my cab and I can use the Legends Pro as a controller. Wish they offered a Premium fee to get rid of the need to sign in.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Před 2 lety +1

      Agree with the sign in/out thing, it's a pain sometimes. Seems a bit better lately here, but was happening more frequently over a month ago. Their firmware hasn't been updated in over a month, they are trying to get a handle on quality releases from what I can tell. Much better than having weekly releases (IMO). Too many systems to QA and the product became increasingly complex. Hopefully we'll find the next fw update to worth the wait and gone through more thorough testing.

So, my 256g Samsung USB has 2 partitions created on Win10, a 16mb fat32 and the remaining as exfat with the add-on-x stuff. I've successfully run the add-on-x tool on the large exfat drive. So now, I plug the Samsung into a usb hub connected to my Core Max. It is the only usb device other than a game controller. However, I am unable to get the core max to flashdrive-x format it. I think the problem is that I am not logged in. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to log in again. Please help. Also, how can I be sure that I have been successful with my original upgrading of the core max? Thanks again in advance. You have helped me with other things in the past.

      On the CoinOpsX guide, you'll see orange blocks that let you know that some of the more recent devices include 16GB of Flash Memory (Core Max is one of them). You only need a single partition for CoinOpsX, there is no FDX currently enabled for the Max (may change later). Basically, do the same thing you just did, but don't create the initial FAT32 partition, only the exFat partition+setup. Then, install COX to the internal memory of the MAX and you should be rock'n and roll'n.

    Stand alone the AtGames legends product line and development have not been all that impressive and their customer service is simply horrible. When the original core was first released I preordered it and when I got I was expecting it to work with 3rd party Bluetooth controllers like they said it would but it never did. I tried returning it and they claimed I never bought one from them even though I had proof of purchase and they simply said they had no records of it. I ended up selling on my local Craigslist loosing money on it. Eventually I ended up up buying a Gamer Pro used for cheap on eBay and don’t get me wrong, the build quality on the Gamer Pro is great but kind of ends there, at least for me. They are still using old chip sets and they spend so much time focusing on pinball and pixel boards. Even the older Raspberry Pi 3B can out emulate their chips for retro gaming. They make lots of promises about devices that they simply never produce. What happened to that light gun? Did they ever get 3rd party Bluetooth controllers working? They have needed the community to make their products better. CoinOpsX is a perfect example. My core would be a paperweight without it. Lately I’ve used the control deck to play Future Pinball and a Batocera build on my PC and on a Android TV box with Emuelec. Maybe it’s just me but there seems to be a number of “retro gaming” CZcamsrs content creators that are a very close bunch that simply gush over everything AtGames does. Almost like they are paid to give positive reviews and promote what ever AtGames is pitching/promising and to push their own AtGames approved accessories. Advice, if you have everything working especially with a CoinOpsX build, don’t do any firmware updates that AtGames pushes. It’s will just screw something up.

      Hi Joey, thank you for sharing your experiences with the core and AtGames customer service. I do know AtGames has been focused on improving their customer service in recent months. They've also implemented a better system to handle communications and a chat option. 3rd party controllers do work, I've tested a handful that I have here. As mentioned in the video, there are some shortcomings (be sure to watch the end where I elaborate). I've provided my feedback regarding the mentioned GamePad latency directly to AtGames (one of the issues I mentioned). Hopefully, no customers will experience that as a result. The RK3399 is actually very powerful, though without games that take advantage of it, a missed opportunity at this point. Don't think there was any point where I was gushing about the product but stating what you can do with it, the potential for improvement (improved CPU should mean more advanced emulators), how to get started and show the product in action. I hope that is the same perception that you got out of watching this video.

      @@WagnersTechTalk I was not suggesting you were part of the ATGames paid fan boys and apologize if it came off that way. I unsubscribe to those channels a long time ago because of their obvious partnership with AtGames. Hell, they run their official Unofficial AtGames FB page. One negative comment about AtGames and they delete your comments, suspend you or outright ban you. It’s true they are part of that community development but it just shows that AtGames doesn’t really do anything themselves to make their standalone products special. Them not taking advantage of the new chip set is a perfect example. They’ll just sit back and wait for the community make it better. When AtGames was trying to crack the market to compete with Arcade1Up I was excited for it and thought it sounded pretty great but the way it was launched the products was a big disappointment. That being said I always enjoy your reviews and tutorials because you seem genuine and just enjoy the tech.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Před 2 lety +2

      No need to apologize, I wasn't thinking you were suggesting I was. I do try to keep all my review videos as bias-free as I can, we all have them (to some extent), but try to report just the facts and experiences. I do communicate with AtGames, particularly in regards to issues that I find. I do the same with other products I review as well, I consider myself free labor for those companies. I often try to find a solution to a problem prior to a video being released, although in some cases, if it's a serious issue and a product is really bad , I'll scrap the video if I don't think it's worth the time of my viewers to watch it (this has happened several times, not necessarily with AtGames). My first AtGames product purchase was the ALP and love it (still my favorite tech purchase). That said, I've watched a number of videos over the past year regarding AtGames, subscribed to a number of related channels and have become friends with several YTers. All of them that I talk to have been open about the issues that they've experienced, both on/off camera.
      I haven't experienced the issues you mentioned personally (block/deleted), but I have heard others say the same. I see your point regarding relying on the community, a hybrid approach would be ideal. It's nice that we have the option for community expansion. If you look at their competition, very few have a platform that is open enough to provide community expansion (not a fan-boy comment lol). For example, you buy an A1up, unless you gut the cabinet and slap a Pi in there, you're stuck with what you bought. For iiRcade, you can purchase/download games, so long as those games exist on their store. AtGames is unique in that regards. That said, I do wish AtGames would provide downloadable Arcade/Console game packs. I always prefer to license games, when given the option. There is a lot of opportunity for the Legends platform to support indie developers and additional IP's as downloadable game packs, it could become a huge untapped revenue stream if they did. Thank you for your comments above, appreciate your feedback/comments, really enjoying this discussion and have a great weekend!
