    bond order of SO32- is (9/6) = 1.5 [6 resonating structures]
    bond order of CO2 is (6/3) = 2 [2 resonating structures]

    BO for resonating structure is BO=1+PIE BOND/ SIGMA BOND

    bhaiya, in co2, if i calculate by this method my ans is 2. but by the general method, i.e BO=no. of e in bonding orbitals - no. of electron in antibonding orbitals/2, ans is 4. pls clarify this, am i doing something wrong?

    Sir, I have a doubt ....If I calculate Bond order for CO2 according to resonance structure I get the answer to be 2 .But if I calculate according to the formula then Bond order =1/2 (16-8)=4 .
    Sir can you just clarify this . If I am wrong please help me clear my doubt.

    For co2 answer is 2 by resonance but net says 4. 4 is the total bonds anyways. “2” is the bonds between one C and O. Final answer should be?

    for SO3, by Lewis dot structure(i.e, sulphur attached with one double bonded and two single bonded oxygens)by this,we can get 3 resonance structures.so BOND ORDER =4 bonds/3 structures=1.33
