Has Bill Belichick become likeable after Tom Brady roast? | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - Sport
I have never seen a guy improve his long-established image faster than Bill Belichick has in 2024. I always at least respected his ability to coach, but now I'm a huge fan of the guy.
Football people always liked him local media liked him it was national media that shytied on him.
@@diegomagellanThe local Boston media has been trying to run him out of town for a while now.
This dude is slowly becoming the TMZ of football, does he ever actually do any analysis or is it always him just trying to do hot takes on things that just happened? What a joke
@@ts9332 when Brady left then they started
@@diegomagellan The local Boston media is trash.
Bill has always been likeable. He thought the media was a group of jerks- so they trashed him.
He always tok care of the local media, it’s the national media he didn’t like.
So not the cheating scandals or anything, I’m a Steelers fan and we got screwed by them and the refs many times
The media IS full of jerks. These people build you up with the intention of tearing you down later. Barry Bonds hated the media and they relentlessly went after him over it
@@MorningDew85 you and the chargers should have had a few rings
@@MorningDew85 Sorry the Steelers are trash.
Too bad Norm MacDonald wasn’t around for it. If Brady approached him to tell him to stop, Norm would’ve doubled down.
I'm sure Brady has given wrinkled up old Kraft a few happy endings.
I can here Norm "Eh eh how bout that...".
Norm would find a way to take a shot at OJ somehow.
Stop getting your news from YT. Watching the show you could tell Brady was trying to make a joke and it was just awkward.
@@theloniousm4337 considering that Jeff Ross came out dressed up as "Roast J Simpson", surrounded by demons, referring to recently-deceased OJ burning in hell.... Norm making OJ jokes would have been perfectly appropriate.
Bill Belichik became likeable to me every time he grumpily shut down some idiotic question at a press conference. I adore him for that. I wish every coach did the same, instead of faking their way through with non-answers like a politician. As most of them do.
Many of us liked that. It was the Boston media that hated it. The Boston media doesn't want to acknowledge that many of us like Bill and can't stand the Boston media.
@@stickman1742 I should point out that I have every reason to hate Bill, because I'm a Raider fan. 🤣 But I still respect his skill and I really admire him just not giving a hoot about sucking up to the media.
Bill has always been hilarious this is not new more people are just seeing it now
Nikki Glaser ruled the Roast & only regret was that Bill Burr (big Pats fan) was not on the docket
Same, I couldn't believe Burr wasn't there. Was really good though, I was rollin 😂😂😂
Same here. He must’ve had some long booked obligation that he could not get out of if he wasn’t at this roast.
The fact that BB wasn’t there is a crime to humanity.
His wife wouldn’t allow it
I don’t understand how people think Tom was serious about getting up and saying don’t say that shit again
Same and all of these ppl haven’t watched the roast themselves, just go off of what ppl say on the internet
Because its in the slow part of these peoples careers. The draft is over and they are desperate for any NFL storyline they can drum up and this is the one they got.
No way to know what was scripted and what wasn't but usually a lot more was scripted than folks think.
He probably was because he got mad at someone in the past for bringing up Krafts massage thingy.
@@commodorezero they brought up things way worse than that lol that was mild.
Eli tweeted he didn’t go to the roast because he didn’t want to roast Brady a third time.
Florio knows less about comedy than he does football. Hard to believe but it's true.
He would definitely suck the fun out of any room
Florio needs to get rid of the "get off my lawn" energy. It's getting old. Every video he finds something to complain about
Jeff Ross is the Roast Master General!! And stand up genius, trust me he’s everywhere but these are his big stage moment!!
Bill was going down the path of Bobby Knight, this was one of the greatest real life baby face turn in history. (For those of us who follow pro wrestling)
They should’ve delayed the roast until Bill Burr could’ve participated cmon
Ross talked about when Brady got up and said it was part of the fun.
The whole point of a Roast is to go places nobody would go in other spaces. Sorry for Aaron's family and others who may have felt offended, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Florio already has a stick up there..
What was Florio referring to with Edelmen?
Bill Belichick is what he is. Great coach, dour, and the cure for insomnia. I wish him well in his broadcast career.
When Bill was on the radio over the years with people he liked it was always a great listen. Never a dull moment. He just wouldn't talk to the rest of the media because he didn't want distractions. That's where all the awkward moments came from. He would play the bad guy if it helped the team.
Interesting tidbit: Drew Bledsoe used his own material, and his wife wrote one of the jokes.
The intro with Bledsoe was funny too
He was always likeable - Belichick is the man
Uhhh, no...
@@cag19549 he was likeable always - that's what his players said. We didn't see it because in his press conferences, his main goal is to be boring and not give away any information whatsoever. Apparently Bellichick is surprised how much information the opposing teams give away in press conferences and he's all about finding any edge possible and his boring press conferences are one of them.
I've always liked Bill - clearly witty and sharp he chose not to open up to the media (image wise not a great move but I don't think he gave a shit - good for you Bill)
Comedy is how we learn to laugh at our pain
I think belichick was always likable. Could you imagine how goddamn hard it would be to be an NFL coach who goes to the super bowl damn near every other year and you think people don't butt heads and get pissed off at each other during that process. Shit I've seen people get pissed off at each other in their own house and I mean bad. I just think not even deep down there's a super awesome guy who has a super difficult job and you just don't always get to see what he's really like. I think if it was that bad after about 10 years Tom would have said sorry but I'm leaving do another team then that's why I don't think it was really that bad. Of course there's players that probably say oh it sucked but I'm sure there's plenty of players that would say that about any team and any coach
I agree he's likeable, but the reason he was bad in press conferences is: he's trying to not give away any info whatsoever about the upcoming game plan. The reporters are doing the opposite, they're trying to get him to tell them what's up. He's actually quite chatty, so adopting the surly facade was probably one of the few ways he was able to avoid giving info. Otherwise, it's too easy to slip up. Contrast that to when a reporter asks a question which has no way of illuminating the upcoming game plan - like the question of the long snapper. Bellichick, the football professsor, went off on a long monologue. And you can start to see what's going on.
He was always likable when he was just having normal conversations with people. It was only his interactions with the media that were awkward. He didn't want to give them anything so he tried to give them nothing. In return, they tried to paint him as the worst kind of person they could. That's how that business works. You give the media what they want and they praise you no matter how much you screw up. You do the opposite then watch out.
I think the only joke I thought was over the limit was probably the Boston marathon one
Only reaction besides holding tears back haha
Ron Burgundy was fucking hilarious. Stick to knowing nothing about football. Affleck bombed
I couldn't figure that out...Matt Damon would have been better, they have comedic history
Afflick went on a drunken rant about his own social media insecurities
Ferrell, Affleck, Bert + Segura were the worst of the roast.
It's comedy. If you're a public figure showing up to a ROAST, you are welcoming jokes about you. Take it and move on.
Didn't Ross know you don't joke about rub and tugs? That crossed a line 😆
Florio says: I have seen the eternal footman hold my coat and snicker, and in short, I don't care.
Hey guys if you didnt know Florio just doesnt care, so dont forget he doesnt care, and he doesnt care that he doesnt care. But he cares to let you know that he doesnt care about caring.
😂 you win
Will he care if I forget that he doesn't care because I simply don't care if he cares if I forget he doesn't care. Maybe he won't give a shit, I don't care but I care to type that I don't care so do I truly care about not caring? BOOM MATRIX
Since when is making fun a serial murderer "off-limits!?" Weird line to draw.
only because what happened wasn't all that funny. It impacted everyone's life negatively.
Jesus Belichick won 6 rings for New England. The man is a Legendary coach. He needs to become a bit more consistent on the offensive side of the ball but overall the man has paid his dues to get another HC position in the NFL. I hope he does next year and does well where ever he goes. Thanks for all the great memories in New England Bill!
He has more rings then tom
Aston Villa really have to capitalize with this one and invite BB at Villa Park 😅
Best roast ever.
Florio fucking hates the pats and I reciprocate his feelings
I'm always amused when I hear Chris Simms talking about Tom Brady because he never is complementary of Tom. To me it's obvious he's very jealous of Tom's everything, success, looks, likability, etc.
It's okay Chris I don't have a filter either, if I think it it's coming out my mouth
Jeff Ross is in charge of the roast. He put it all together. If you dont know 💩 don't say 💩
What would have been Julian's "comedy enhancer" of choice ??
The only things off-limits were Kraft's massages and Brady's wig.
Belichik was very likable on the McAfee draft night thing. He really seemed like he had a sense of humor. As a longtime colts fan it was weird.
Us serious Pats fans had seen Bill like this many times. He used to do radio shows regularly with media people he liked and they were always great. Only serious Pat's fans would be listening to those. When he did press conferences with the media guys he didn't trust, he would clam up and not give them anything. Most of the media guys never liked him and that's what most viewers ended up seeing.
Ross was out of bounds on this one. Not because of a massage joke, but because no need to bring brady in on kraft's baggage.
It was so cringe for Florio to avoid saying England “football”.
It’s a ROAST!! 😂😂😂 that’s just how it goes it’s not for everyone so kick rocks
Burgandy was great, what is Florio talking about?
can you imagine Desaun Watson saying the "massages are off limits".
I want to see the roast of OJ without discussing his double murder.
Maybe Florio should get his own roast so people like him too (it won’t work)
Belichick can change his image with weekly appearance where he opens up like any ex-coach. If he is back as a coach, it will not be for very long so he should prepare for football after coaching now.
or maybe people like you don't know how to judge character because u just follow mainstream media narrative
The answer is a resounding no.
Actually, I think he became likeable after the Pat McAfee show.
It was your usual humiliation ritual.
Chris Simms would have been amazing on the roast! Florio calls it “unfiltered” and we call it authentic 💯 keep it real Simsy
Florio stick to football… leave comedy & politics to the experts
I agree Mike , don't give a crap what they think, just say it!
If you keep saying you don't care, you kinda do.
Bill Belichick always was likable to anyone who possesses a shred of critical independent thought. Hell, I’m a diehard lifelong Eagles fan and even I love the guy. He just doesn’t put up with legacy media’s bullshit. He *despises* them. That is probably a big reason for why I love him. Come to think of it, thats the common denominator of public figures who the establishment despise (Bill Belichick, Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump, etc.). They don’t kowtow on bended knee to legacy media
Well he should be he drafted Brady and was the reason he wasnt benched for Drew when he got healthy which is what Krafted wanted.
Why is Florio so butthurt
BB owned Manning, not Brady. Ty Law rules had to be implemented against BB to get Manning his first Superbowl. There is some tactics on the parts of BB, but he was engaging with Pat at Army/Navy. It seemed the relationship started there. At the time Pat was called a kiss a*s, but look at him now.
"Ty Law rules" thankyou. Stuff like that is never pointed out. But IYKYK FACTS
@@Kujo92J it surprises me that media doesn't call out owners who have influence with the rules committee when they change the enforcement of rules (not writing new rules - that would be too obvious), like the NBA does. Irsay is a prime example. I believe the Mel Blount Rule rewrote the rule book, while the Ty Law Rule didn't (Mel Blount became more strictly enforced). So you had people like Polian and Jeff Fisher (co-chair of the committee) pushing for changes to disable the Pats and open up offenses more. It's not like other teams weren't doing what Ty Law did, but Pats made it part of training (there is a CZcams with BB showing Law how to do it). All the coverage in football, and some of the most significant developments are ignored, because people want hear BS narrative. As for Spygate, the memo (not yet in the rule book) was originally for cameraman safety reasons, not spy prevention.
Don't really like any roasts, they often get awkward or just outright bad IMO. I just watch some highlights if interested, like this Bill clip
Drew Bledsoe had the best set. Next was Manning and Brady at the end. Robert Kraft had one of the best lines, " Putin, I want my fuckin ring back."
Yeah, now you sports talk hacks are going to have to stop calling him the bad guy.
And stop saying...."will all of these things he is doing make him look a good guy?"
If he LOOKS LIKE A GOOD GUY....that means he IS!
You media hacks always preface everything as if someone is being disingenuous......while at the same time you expect your viewers to take everything you say as thoughtful and genuine.
Tom was joking to Jeff Ross stop pushing that narrative
No, he wasn't. He's pretty protective of Robert Kraft.
There’s no boundaries in comedy people are just soft
It was Scripted guys… cmon… lol.
Belichick is much more likable than Brady. 💯
Everything is scripted but great. Tom Brady was playing a role.
Stop its a roast lighten up guys
He didnt get the Emmy being an asshole
You can make fun of ANYTHING - except a creepy old billionaire who gets fifty-dollar handy-j's.
That's America for ya.
Simms is a never-was creep
He was likeable before. Only the betas had a problem
Will Ferrell is not funny to me.
I watched it 3 times already. That was great. Ron Burgundy and Afleck were terrible but everyone else hit especially Belichick and Edelman
Edelnut*
Florio shoulda been a woman. As for Simms, very jealous of Brady.
peak white boy humor glad florio called it out barely any funny jokes
Siding with florio is the whitest thing you can do
Some people shouldn’t be allowed to talk about comedy. Two dudes with the personalities of shriveled up kumquats are #1 and #2 on that list
Are you number 1 or 2? 🤨
Florio would somehow be less likeable after being roasted
Tom's upset about massages but not giving cover to a sociopath that committed multiple murders. Rich people are sickos.
It actually speaks to Brady's character that he didn't care about himself but what they said about someone he cared about.
Will Ferrell is never funny.
Please please won’t somebody think of the billionaires feelings 🙏🙏… uppity aholes.
No. He’s trying to get a job.
anything "over the top". Florio is acually kinda boring af when it comes to comedy and jokes.
Mike Florio doesn’t get it
Bill always been likeable. It’s Tom that isn’t.
I think most NFL players have said the opposite.
Bill Belichick = nothing without Brady
8 rings vs 7 rings...hmmmm
@@Kujo92J But two of those were as a defensive coordinator. His head coaching record without Brady leaves a lot to be desired.
Too bad Mike and Chris are still unlikeable after the Brady Roast!
chris simms is just horrible
Florio needs to get rid of the "get off my lawn" energy. It's getting old
This dude is slowly becoming the TMZ of football, does he ever actually do any analysis or is it always him just trying to do hot takes on things that just happened? What a joke
I like him now.
No.
Simms being the worst football commentator ever... what's going on in football tonight? oh nothing.. maybe I'll watch the Brady Roast... nahhhhhhh
I am cringing hearing that BB sample’’’’lame
