    Screw the screws, a little ways, in a board or piece of styrofoam, and paint them all at once, before installing.

    As a precaution, you should squeeze a touch of the appropriate caulking in the screw holes, just before hanging it back up, you'll be glad you did

      Good call, the old wood or brick those shutters go back on don't always get fastened into properly, loose brick/mortar or stripped out wood. At least they added painting the screwheads aha!

    I only had two sets of exterior shutters so I just painted them on a ladder. Used a primer and about two coats of paint with a brush. Worked well and it’s been about 7 years. Spraying is definitely easier though. And less time consuming by far.

I keep reading about the effects of vinyl warping when painted with darker colors. Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have "vinyl safe" colors but none of them go very dark.

  • @crabtrap
    @crabtrap Před rokem

    Yes these are non-functional faux shutters: historicly louvered vented shutters/Plantation shutters are found in the south sunny humid states. main purpose was sunshade but with airflow/and storm protection.
    Plank Shutters (no louvers or vents) are more typical to midwest/east coast to protect from high winds and flyin debri damage.
    so if you are installing faux shutters: this may help you get the right shutters for your house type and area. EX a Dutch Colonial in Mich would look best with plank type faux shutters
