Have you considered just putting a white noise sample through the filter?
I tend to do it to compare the frequency response of guitar pedals, preamps, and so on. You can use the same noise sample to test lots of different circuite, and give a fair comparison, plus it's immediately obvious which frequencies are getting cut or boosted.

I find Notch filters to be more noticeable with no resonance. Tried that ?
