  • If you're looking for a brilliant day-hike to do whilst staying in Edinburgh, then the Pentland Hills have the answer for you. Only a short bus ride, at the small cost of £1.60, from Edinburgh's Princes Street and you are in the mountains with incredible views and sensational hiking trails.
The hike featured in this video is the Flotterstone - Nine Mile Burn hike which is just under 8 miles long and takes in 5 peaks along the way, including the highest peak in the Pentlands, at Scald Law.
If you're lucky to have a clear day, then you will clearly see the city of Edinburgh, the iconic Forth of Firth bridges, North Berwick and beyond as you climb the 5 peaks.
This is a hike well worth doing during your stay in Edinburgh, and a very achievable day-hike from the city meaning you'll be back at your hotel in time for dinner (and a drink).

I'm a fan of day-hikes that you can do from city centres on public transport. I've found a few, in New York, Dubai, Fort William, Los Angeles and now Edinburgh. The Pentland Hills are well worth exploring so I hope you enjoy the guide and put this hike on our list for your next Edinburgh trip! Comment below with any questions, and thanks for watching! @sportstraveltom I've been wild camping up there since I was 14 and walking there since childhood.
Truly amazing place, and so close to the city.
      Glad you enjoyed it.

Incredible. Did you say the whole summit was 2 and a half hours?
Does that include the bus from Edinburgh and the trip back to get your GoPro?

@@mahedyhasan2007 Thanks! 2 & half hours doesn't include the bus journey which takes about 40 minutes. For me it was 2 & a half hours to reach the summit from the hike start point. Hope you can get out there this summer and enjoy it!
