Windy Wild Camp in Scotland with the Hilleberg Soulo - Beautiful Views and Sunrise

  • Join me on a wild camp in the Pentland Hills outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. Although it’s not the highlands, this is a beautiful secluded place! I only managed to see one other person on the entire trip! The hiking portion of this video is a bit longer than my other videos as hiking was the main focus of this trip. I will be back to cooking meals and sleeping under a tarp in the forest soon! I’m due for a bushcraft trip. On this hike I followed the Pentland Way to my final destination just off the summit of one of the hills. I apologize if the wind noise gets a little annoying but there was no escaping it. I was able to find some coverage off the summit, but it was still ever present. When I measured it, constant wind speed was around 18-21 mph in the exposed areas. It did increase as I was going to bed but I was still sheltered enough that the noise did not keep me awake at night. Although, the light did make it a little difficult to sleep so I was awake by 2:30am. The endless twilight is beautiful, but I am a bit too sensitive to the light. One benefit of the early rise was getting to see an incredible sunrise over the hills while having my morning coffee. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Thanks for watching and if you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment. ATB

    I have enjoyed all your videos so far, sometimes concerned when you climb steep crags in high winds, worried when you camp in exposed wild locations alone, now TERRIFIED, as you carelessly plonked your unsupported beer on the grass while measuring the wind strength. You are truly fearless!

    Whaaaaat? Ive tuned in expecting gormet class in cooking a steak and kidney pie with a frivolous salad and youre eating a ready meal. (🤣).
    Seriously- if you had to pick one tent. Would this be it?
    (Great views etc again👍)

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Před 5 měsíci

      🤣👍 that’s a fair assumption. When we are on holiday as a family, I will sometimes bring a packed bag with a dehydrated meal with me. That way if the kids and my wife want a lazy night at the Airbnb or hotel I will head out and get a quick camp in 👍. This was one of those trips. The Soulo is extremely popular for a good reason. It can do it all. Without hesitation I would recommend this tent. However, I have been gravitating a bit more towards tents with a little bit more space lately. It’s really nice to have the extra room when sharing a tent with a tripod and camera 😅. I would never want to pick one tent though. I might pick the Unna if I had to choose one. It’s definitely not as bomber in the wind as the Soulo but I enjoy the simplicity and the extra space. Appreciate the comment!

    Love the relaxed pace of the filming, I recognised the place but took a moment or two to realise it was the pentlands, I haven’t been there since all the lockdown started, given me the push to return, thank you.
    I really enjoyed watching your trip, Soulo is an awesome bomber tent, I purchased a Niak this year, can’t wait to get back out there. Cheers again, ATB

      Thanks! For whatever reason I decided to just start talking on one of my videos in Snowdonia and just kept doing it in future videos 👍. I haven’t put links to gear because I never want people thinking I’m trying to sell them something or promote a product! That’s not what this channel is about. I do watch CZcams camping videos as well and I am sometimes interested in others gear so I totally understand wanting links. If there is ever any particular items you are curious about just let me know and I am happy to share a link or more info on it 👍

    Really enjoyed that and subbed to your channel. Looked a great spot for a camp. How do you find the Soulo regarding condensation and venting?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks!! I have always found the venting options in Soulo to be really great. The condensation has always been pretty minimal for me as well. This may be because I am usually pitching the tent in pretty exposed areas with a nice breeze or wind. On this trip, I just had a little on the inside of the vestibule where I placed my backpack. I also have the footprint and I believe that helps to also minimize condensation. In short, condensation has never been and issue for me. If there is any, I can either wipe it off before I pack the tent or I just set it up when I get home in a room and it dries out in under 30 min. Hope this answers your question! ATB

      Thanks for such a quick and detailed reply. Its great to get feedback from users of gear like yourself who have knowledge of using it in the wild so to speak. Excellent to hear your positive thoughts on the Soulo. Extremely helpful and i really appreciate it. All the best and i look forward to your next vid.👌
