- Join me on my first camping trip with my new packraft. After a nice hike along the lake I use the packraft to make my way to a couple islands I have been wanting to visit for quite some time. After a bit of exploring I was lucky enough to find a beautiful campsite right next to the water on one of the islands. I had a bit of misfortune with my camera, but after that, I was able to still make a nice meal and enjoy the rest of my evening waterside. I have always loved canoe camps but it was really nice to have a boat that I can hike with which allows me to get on and off the water quickly! Excited for the new camping possibilities this will bring. Hope you enjoy the video!

I've now viewed enough of your videos to get a sense of your personality. Not even an awesome lakeside meal of fish n chips could take the sting out of possibly ruining ones favorite camera. But, you were a trooper and made the best of it. Nice spot and great scenery. Sad that people leave their garbage in the beautiful forests. Doesn't take much to clean up aftee oneself. Interesting stove. Enjoyed the video very much. Good luck with hopefully saving that camera.😊
Having a nice meal in such a beautiful place definitely helps lift the mood. I was just happy I could still capture everything with my phone. Such a pretty place. Glad I was able to find a spot away from all the fire pits. I can understand one or two fire pits being left so that others have a place for a fire but 20 being in such close proximity to each other was kinda crazy. And leaving all the garbage is just shameful. Oh well. I will never understand it. I’ve had the camera covered in rice all week. I’m going to take it out later today and see if it works. 🤞🤞🤞. @@GoingSoloOutdoors It is a bit late now, but the rice thing does nothing. It is better to cut all power once it got exposed to water, take it as far apart as safely possible and let it dry in a well ventilated place, air conditioning with a dry setting would be ideal.
Safest bet would be to bring it to a professional who deals with water damaged electronics ASAP.
@@F13Helm Thanks for the input. Fortunately the rice trick did work. After 2 weeks in the rice all water is gone from the viewfinder and the camera appears to be working perfectly 👍. The lens on the other hand also must have received damage in the fall and that no longer works, so I’ll be purchasing a new lens. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. All the best.
Reading from Arizona and raised by a 30-year Navy man who happened to be part native American I was raised to take out everything that we bring in. If other people left trash we would take it out with us too.

It's one of the best videos yet although I like all your videos and now think I've caught up on them all and been following you for over a year this was definitely one of my favourites (apart from the camera) gutted for you
Happy to hear you liked it. I really enjoyed getting to spend some time on the water and hiking on this trip. The spot I found on the first island was pretty great also. The camera falling in was definitely unfortunate but after two weeks in the rice the camera was fine. So the only thing that needed to be replaced was the lens. @GoingSoloOutdoors great news about the camera 👍 you can't beat being out on the water I do the same in my kayak but never found anywhere as nice as your spot to pitch up hopefully soon though. me and about ten mates are going up to loch maree Scotland for a week in the kayaks end off September as you can't camp on the islands April to August because of nesting birds and watching this video has got me more buzzing for it 👍

This area was actually one of the first spots I ever camped in the Lake District. I always wanted to come back and camp on one of the islands. Glad I was finally able to 😀. I will pin a comment to the top regarding the camera at some point. I am a bit disappointed after seven days in the rice. At the bare minimum I will definitely have to get a new lens. I can happily report that after two weeks of sitting in the rice the camera now appears to be fully functional. I did, however, have to replace the lens. Although I can tell the difference in the footage taken with the iPhone I have to admit it is definitely impressive the quality of video you can now get with just your phone! @@GoingSoloOutdoors good to hear that, and yes, I didn't think the lens would've survived. Not all lenses are as weather sealed as you would expect. However a fixed focal length with a front element that doesn't protrude or rotate when focussing are mostly better at expelling water. But again not guaranteed at all if fully submerged.

Another winner! Hope the camera can be salvaged. What is your total pack weight with raft? Were there any mosquitos? Do you use DEET? I have squeezed tents into tight spots..unusual to find one that level..and the moss! Do you use Patreon for additional revenue? Sorry for all the questions, looking forward to your next offering!
Glad you liked it. It was a nice change of pace being on the water. The total weight with food and even camera the equipment (not my tripod and main camera which I carry in my hand) was 33lbs. We don’t really get mosquitoes here but in about a month the midges will be in this part of the country and they’re pretty brutal. I actually prefer mosquitoes to midges. Yes I’ve used deet in the past but only typically when it’s extremely bad and I’m not able to sit next to a fire. I’ve never really liked how it feels on the skin. I was definitely very excited to have found such a great spot next to the water. I don’t do Patreon. This is just a hobby for me and I only currently have time to make one or two videos a month. My family is definitely the priority at the moment. No reason to be sorry for any questions 👍😀. Really appreciate you continuing to watch. Hope you’re having a nice weekend. ATB

I've done some kayaking but never combined with camping. Looks like a great combination.
Seen some folks kayak the GGW but I'd rather do shorter trips on lakes than long canal stretches.
Hopefully the camera survived. It's completely understandable to feel a bit gutted, if you might loose something that is simply dear to you.
About the trash and burn spots, that's just ghastly.
Saw some recent images of Loch Lomond shore on another YT channel. It was so bad, incredible.
I'd understand and perhaps even appreciate hefty fines. Needs to be enforced though, otherwise just a symbolic measure.
Or perhaps some 'Free to roam' hiking tourist tax for foreigners, if only to finance cleaning up the worst.
I wouldn't mind.
Kayaking and camping is a fantastic combination that you should definitely try. I’ve done a lot of canoe camping in the past and I’ve always really enjoyed it so it was nice to be back on the water camping on this trip. A nice change of pace from just hiking in the mountains or woods. I honestly don’t know how to solve the trash problem. Thankfully I don’t see it that often but when I do it’s just really disappointing. I can happily report after two weeks in the rice the camera is working 😀👍. The lens needed to be replaced but very happy the camera could be saved. Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. Really appreciated! All the best. There's always a small percentage of the population who think the rules don't apply, I'd hope those that want to go hiking mostly treat the countryside with respect. Time will tell, I guess. Appreciate that but it’s just normal cooking with a bit smaller equipment 👍😀. And there is definitely nothing wrong with rehydrating a meal. I was probably a little less upbeat off camera after the camera took a dunk in the water. I was a bit in shock it actually happened. Hey GS! Sorry about your camera dude! That sucks!! I hope you were able to get it dried out and working! That sucked about the trashed sites. I’m surprised you didn’t see human feces as well. Anybody who leaves that much trash around and builds 30 fire rings is definitely not burying their shit! Her majesty’s ministry of forests and parks is going to have to close camping off to those islands. If they do that it will force people to be subtle and stealth camp.

Definitely a bit disappointed seeing the second island in that condition but it did force me to go back to the first and find that great spot next to the water 👍. The camera was definitely unfortunate. The lens is completely broken but I was able to get the camera to turn on. The viewfinder isn’t currently usable but after some more time in the recent might be. Really appreciate you continuing to watch my videos 😀. Hope you have a nice week. ATB

@@MartinRamsbottom-is2blafter two week in a bowl of rice the camera was fixed, which was great! I did have to replace the lens but far better than having to replace the camera 😅

Its hard getting out because of my wifes illness but watching your videos they have given me back a huge drive for sleeping outdoors. I honestly just settled for thinking that part of my life had gone . I watched a few of your videos and its now crazy to think I'd actually given up on doing any more camping .. A nice meal in a beautiful place 👍. The camera is a bit of a mixed bag at the moment. The lens is done. No longer focuses and still has water inside. The camera did turn on but the viewfinder is unusable as it still has water in it. So back into the rice. Won’t know if everything still works ok with just the LCD screen until I can get a new lens 🙄. A bit disappointed but hopefully I can still use it with after I get another. Hope you have a nice bank holiday weekend as well. All the best buddy!

After two weeks in the rice the camera now seems to be working 😀. The lens on the other hand must have also received damage in the fall so that had to be replaced but a new one is now on the way. This year, my dream is to get out on my kayak and do some camping.
can't wild camp much in Ohio, but I've found a small park area with some short river camping access that i plan on trying out.
what a beautiful place, even with all of the garbage and fire pits... I will never understand people, but all we can do is be better.
i also dont understand why they would ring the trees..... thats kinda wild.

What an amazing video! The filming was great…we know you were very disappointed about your camera, and we totally understand. If the video quality was not as good, we sure did not notice it! We are praying that your camera can be repaired if needed, at an affordable cost. As to those who leave a mess….grrr😡. It seems that people just expect others to pick up after them. Fortunately, most wild campers leave no trace! Anyway, thank you, the scenery was amazing, and seeing your face when the tent just fit was the frosting on the cake. See you next time! Really appreciate the comment. Still a bit bummed about the camera but when going out on these camps and hikes as often as I do this kind of stuff is bound to happen I suppose. The lens is definitely busted. Not sure about the camera body just yet. Just thankful it has survived as long as it has I suppose. Either way I will be out and about on another camp soon. It is a shame there were so many fire pits left on the 2nd island. Just don’t understand why people think it’s acceptable to leave their garbage like that. Luckily I was able to find a really nice spot on the first island 😀. Hope you both are enjoying the long weekend. All the best!
While the camera disaster was wholly unfortunate it did add drama to the story. The drone footage accompanied by the score you chose was absolutely perfect. Well made and well told all around.

Another excellent video, I like the packraft adventure! Nothing like exploring these little islands, so exciting. I do share your irritation about people not caring about LNT. Just came back from WHW (and yes, I know it’s an immense overcrowded and popular hike) and had many of the same annoyances. ‘Oh this looks like a nice place to shelter or setup camp’, littered of human sh*t. Verry annoying. Anyways, thanks for the nice video haha!

Sorry about your camera, really hope it dried out and works! Your video was still awesome and those fish and chips look incredible. As a Brit living in the US I’m wondering if you could by any chance run a training course for your fellow Americans who claim to own “London style fish and chips” establishments as that looked 1,000,000x better than anything I’ve ever been served up here and you cooked it on a camp stove!! Now to apologise for my countrymen on how bad British people can be in observing the leave no trace principles, which in my experience is rarely a problem in the wilderness on the US west coast at least. Thanks again for making these videos, they’re really entertaining and relaxing!
After the camera fell in the water I really needed that fish and chips to lift the mood 👍. Such a nice place to enjoy it as well. I am happy to report after a full two weeks in the rice, the camera is now working. Unfortunately I still needed to replace the lens but a new one is on the way. What an awesome island, so beautiful and serene. That second island was so sad, you could see that it once was beautiful. Hopefully, the trees will get taken care of, and it will start looking healthy again. But like you said, it won't do any good if people don't start cleaning up after themselves. Ugh, it's sickening.
Yes, I would love to see more pack rafting trips. I think you really enjoy that kind of trip plus the views are just simply gorgeous, and I love seeing places like that.

It was nice to explore these islands but a bit disappointed to see so many fire pits with garbage on that second island. After having the camera and lens in rice for a week the lens is no longer useable unfortunately. I was able to turn on the camera 👍 however the viewfinder still had water inside it and was also unusable so I put the camera back in the rise. I will definitely have to purchase another lens and I am currently deciding whether or not I should just also upgrade the camera. It turns on which is good but the view finder is still filled with moisture and isn’t usable and the lens no longer focuses. Great stuff mate. Shame about the camera, hope it's okay now? Happened to me a while back with a Canon M50, fell over during the night and landed outside of the tarp - totally soaked but miraculously it survived along with an expensive lens - I did the old putting it in a bag of rice trick. Lovely spot, have stayed there myself and we got across on a dodgy inflatable Kayak which was interesting to say the least. ATB pal 👍
Such a beautiful part of the Lakes. Shame people have left that larger island in such disarray. Definitely not thrilled about the camera but I guess I’m just happy it’s lasted this long. We shall see if a second round in the rice helps the viewfinder of the camera at all. Making your way to these islands with a dodgy inflatable kayak sounds pretty fun actually 😂.
