It was the morning of Sunday 25th October 2020 in Edinburgh, Scotland and the sun was shining in through the window, so we made a last minute decision to go for a walk, and not just any old walk...
Join us on a 30km trek around The Seven Hills of Edinburgh - if you have time and feel so inclined, this is (in my opinion) the best walk the city has to offer with views to take your breath away in all directions!
We took the following anti-clockwise route:
1) Wester Craiglockhart Hill
2) Braid Hills
3) Blackford Hill
4) Arthur's Seat
5) Calton Hill
6) Castle Rock
7) Corstorphine Hill
I'd done this as a run back in 2014 (it almost killed me!) so walking it was a far easier pill to swallow, but still took 7 hours with us finishing in darkness.

This has taught me 4 things.
1: I should stop being so lazy. I barely walk more than 5 miles now.
2: I really should get a head touch.
3: It's nice to see people still excited by where they live.
4: I'm not the only one who has recently thought a walk in white trainers would be fine.So much mud!
lovely video, even though I have been up all these hills (not in 1 go!) It was very nice to watch👍🙂
Haha cheers Michelle! Love no.4 🤣
Thank you SO much got sharing! Our trip to Scotland this past summer was cancelled 😔...my heart just aches (literally aches!!) to return.
Awww sorry to hear it! But hopefully you will love the next trip here all the more because of the delay! :)
I cant believe I have never seen this one. I didnt realize how beautiful Edinburgh was. Your short films are amazing and you really know your stuff. Loved it.
What an amazing walk, thanks for taking us with you. I really need to get back to Edinburgh, I found it to be such a lovely city. My only regret was spending just 2 days there.
Thanks for watching! Glad I can help with inspiring you to come back :)
You made the correct choice to continue filming after all someone has to film in case your significant other would have fallen on her face! Thanks for taking us along with you. Love Edinburgh!
Haha so true! :) The video must always come first!
It was delightful to join you as you led on by foot through the seven hills of Edinburgh. You burned up heaps of energy that I cannot
muster up anymore. That's one of the beauties of technology that wasn't available to us when I was just a lad, and brimming over
with endless energy. Now people like you and your lassie can share your adventures with us. And please never forget that. We who
are not so young any more are an appreciative part of your global audience. And we're loving it by crikey!
Wow...a new one. I just found your channel and just finished watching all your past vlogs. You have a knack for this. Thanks for what you do. WDH Orlando FL
Thanks so much for watching, so glad you found/like the channel! More to come soon I hope, best wishes to you!
He has hasn’t he , great material though.
I left Edinburgh in 1967 to live in Canada. Thanks for the reminder of all the great walks in the city of my youth. There's no place like it.
Thanks for showing parts of Edinburgh the normal tourist doesn't get to see! Please continue! 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
Thanks so much! Will do, hopefully filming this weekend!
Thanks for a great video.
Cheers Del!
I do love Edinburgh but sofar I have only been up to 2 hills, Braid Hill and Castle Rock. But now I know why I haven't been up Arthur's Seat. Those steps!
It's a struggle for sure! :)
Bravo! I’ve only made it to 3 of the hills. Thanks so much for sharing, love your videos.
Cheers T-Dawg! 3 is still more than most people, so good work :)
Very very good and interesting thank you 👍
Cheers mate!

What a beautiful day this was....I really enjoyed watching every minute of this! The scenery is gorgeous for sure & I see there's lots of country-type lanes & paths & waterfalls, etc to enjoy along the way....you guys really got a great work out too! I have to get my new knee installed before I could do this, but hopefully, someday I might!!
Hope it all goes well with the knee Bob. Thanks so much for watching!
I will ding excuses to improve my back muscles so I can go back to walking like these two and live in Sth Aust. Always enjoy Steve and his daughter walks.
So lovely to see lot's of green spaces in my hometown which my Wife and i left in 1964 for down under . Thank you and your Misses Steve for a beautiful video . Duncan Pitkeathly .
Thanks so much Duncan! Best wishes to you, so cool to think my video is being watched on the other side of the world!
Good work! Edinburgh is such a fantastic city. My trips there usually consisted of going to Murrayfield but would always involve drinking large quantities of beer in one or many of the great pubs!
Sounds like a perfect day to me! :) Cheers Stewart

Another great video, I'm loving both of your enthusiasm for your local surroundings 👍
Some gorgeous views there Steve, thanks for the video.
I think I like seeing the videos like this one the most. And out of the city in the countryside.
Absolutely beautiful!! Autumn is a magical time with all the different colors and so was Arthur’s Hill 🤗❤️
My favourite season (tied with winter!)
@@steve-marsh hi Steve what is the best time to visit Scotland?
Love a walk around Edinburgh! Thanks for the vid!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much!
Another great one Steve. Know all these hills really well from my younger days. You both did so well in doing it all within the day.
Cheers Mike, some amazing views from up there on those hills, really enjoyed it!
Excellent - I really enjoy your videos
Cheers Pete! :)
This is my absolute fave video of yours I must have watched 3 or 4 times now
Thanks so much Chris! It was a fun last minute decision kinda day :)
What a great day. Thanks for taking us along.
Cheers for coming :)
Another great video. Love seeing places I've driven and walked by
Cheers!
I need to try this just amazing!
It’s a lot of fun, give it a go :)
I have already grown to love your channel Steve. What a beautiful day you had to do these walks, and this now gives me something to look forward to when we're out of lockdown and I can visit my friend in Edinburgh again!
Thanks Sue, I really hope you make it back here sooner rather than later! :)
You guys are amazing! Thank you!
Awww thanks so much!!!
another great video..keep up the good work...
Thanks so much :)
Wonderful!
Cheers Peter!
Such a pretty walk
Good to see especially when your in your be arm bed, I'm in Irvine.
Love Edinburgh, thanks again .
Another great vlog!! Thank you for sharing!! Beautiful bad breathtaking scenery of such a majestic place on this earth
Cheers Peter!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Well done both of you. Great to see you enjoying it. I’ve done Arthur’s sear but never knew about the others.
Glad you liked it, thanks! It was a lovely day oot!
Fantastic....great views not only of wonderful Edinburgh...but across the Forth to my home Fife. I am now live just south of the border in Newcastle and once we get back to some normality your video has given me not only the reason why I should visit home more often but follow in your footsteps and try 'The Seven Hills of Edinburgh'. Thank you and keep up the excellent work.
Cheers George! Hope you get back up soon and glad I could help inspire a wee jaunt round the hills! :)
Said Elsewhere love Scotland & Edinburgh. I did read about hills but was not aware of all the ones you climbed. Beautiful City, cants wait to come back soon I hope.
Haste ye back to Edinburgh :)
Also I can only think of doing 2 of these. Castle rock is a regular for great views and blackford hill. Been in the comms box with the tower couple of times with my Dad as he was a telecoms engineer. Also ran round Arthur's seat a couple of times for the bupa winter and the EMF 5K's.
Good effort, walking is enough for me! Wow, would love to get in the comms box!
Great video! I was born in Edinburgh and I always enjoy a nice video about my home town.
Thanks!
Pure joy to watch my friend! This is what I am striving for in my videos!
Thanks so much for watching, good luck with your content and all the best!
I can't imagine anywhere else I'd rather get out and have a gid walk than Edinburgh, so many gid walks!
So true! Unlimited urban and rural trails within the city limits! :)
Thanks for sharing. Usually if you see videos of Edinburgh, they mainly centre on the castle but your video shows that there's much more to see.
Oh there really is! You are spot on Richard, so many people don't get further than the Royal Mile, which is such a shame!
That city is a real gem! O.0
You just put it on my list, Mate!
I’m so glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Ahoy Pirates! Thanks for this video, enjoyed it, felt like being there! The more I get to see Edinburgh the more I like it! Most definitely part of this year's bucket list! High hopes of traveling soon! Summer awaits! AYE! Wild winds!
All the best getting here, hopefully we can all start digging into our bucket lists again this year :)
Watching your video in NZ . Edinburgh is my hometown and really miss it. Used to walk up Braid Hills every Sunday with our dog. Lovely to see it again. Great video... Thanks
Thanks so much for watching! I lived in devonport for a couple of years and know what it feels like to miss home. Best wishes to you
Another great video! The scenery from the summits of the hills of Edinburgh is spectacular. Thanks for sharing this and giving the viewers a glimpse of this beautiful city!
Thanks so much!
Guys, just found you and subbed. Awesome vids. Pentlands are my stomping grounds so love this and will be catching up on your back catalogue👍
Amazing, thanks so much! And welcome to the channel :) need to get up the pentlands again soon - been up there in all weathers but never with the camera rolling! Cheers!
What a stunning video (again). Love those autumn colours
Cheers Henk!
Enjoyed this 👍👊
Cheers Hugh!
I was only in Edinburgh a few months ago with a friend & he took me to Arthur’s Seat & I thought it was amazing. I was able to walk all the way to the top to the summit. Breath taking views of Edinburgh & beyond from the top I could see the Forth Bridge in the distance ❤️
This is just gorgeous. Edinburgh is such a marvelous city. I’ve been there twice, but it’s been many years now since I visited. I must visit again someday. In the meantime thanks for the lovely video.
Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it and hope it can help inspire a return sometime soon! :)
beautiful
Another epic vid that really encapsulates the beauty of Edinburgh and it surroundings. You know it’s a legit vid when there’s power slamming of Irn-Bru involved. Next time just add some Monster Munch carb loading for the win.
Keep up the great work!
And a jammie piece! 👍🏼 to monster munch idea - keep an eye out in future videos :)
Great video , Great City Respect Happy 2021
Happy new year Willie!
Wow what a fair walk you done but views are loverly you need plenty of stamina for those hills and darn windy 😳 cheers for sharing 👍 😀
Hi Steve I have just found your channel and very impressed so far. The video’s that I have watched are informative without sounding like a travel guide. I am able to get up to Scotland 🏴 at least 3 times a year and lived there many moons ago when I was a wee bairn !!! Have subscribed and clicked on the notification bell. Let’s hope that there will be an end to all this COVID business one day soon. 😷
Thanks so much Pamela - your support is much appreciated and hope you get back here soon!
That was a simply brilliant video Steve - cheers And not a plane in sight!!
I have to say that Auld Reekie is my favourite British city - but I may be a tad biased. My late Dad was born in Portobello back in 1923 - and his middle name was Napier !! 😎👍👍
Awesome! :) oh I love Portobello! Thanks so much for the feedback :)
You 2 sure are very fit people. One hill a day is enough for me. It is good to go around the quaint & delightful beauty of Edinburgh with you.
As you enjoy walking up hills I think you might find Humphrey Hill interesting for videoing. It overlooks Old Kilpatrick & Bowling on the western outskirts of Glasgow. HH is the steepest road I have ever walked up. The River Clyde looked as though it was on a slant from side to side from the top of that hill, before it turns off towards Loch Humprey; it must be an optical illusion.
What a great tip Robert! Writing it in my book right now :)
Amazing walk friend. Like and support from Edinburgh ❤️👍
Thanks so much! :)
I never realised how much green space there is in Edinburgh. Such a beautiful city and you did a great job with the video.
Thanks so much Dave!
I've been an Edinburgh resident for most of my life but still great to see this, I've been up all those hills on many occasions but NEVER all in 1 day, you guys are mad !!! (but great fun.....)
Haha it certainly was a tiring day, by number 7 we (well I) was really struggling! :)
Wonderful tour...I enjoyed it all. Merry Ann from Minnesota
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I lived in Edinburgh for four years and never heard the term “seven hills”. I wouldn’t have thought of the first and last ones you did as Edinburgh hills. Clearly they are, but I never thought of them that way.
Like it when there's the two of you.
Thanks, me too! :)
Canuk here i saw a picture of a hockey Canada toque on I have always wanted to come visit Edinburgh my father and his family immigrated from there a long long time ago the only thing he has from home is a piece of shingle from the castle he jokes its probably not off the castle is most likely from the shit house out back its funny it looks a lot like here the great lakes area thanks for the tour
Haha that’s awesome! :) cheers for watching!
As a local know all these places and have been up many individually however that walk is amazing and should be recognized and recorded officially, will be doing it for sure.
Totally agree, and also a great way for a tourist to tour the city :)
Another great video, was in Edinburgh last November, defo need to make a return trip
Thanks so much! Was up Arthur’s Seat yesterday and could barely stand up straight with the wind :)
Love your vlogs, Steve!!! Big fan & been binge watching most.
I was in Edinburgh for the first time ever, just last month.
Lovely city & thanks for refreshing my memory.
I only did the Arthur's seat summit 👍
So congrats for doing 7 👌
By the way, don't give up on your walk to Glasgow....try and you will succeed next time 🤞
You make great vlogs and very well presented!! Love you treks around Europe (done a few myself also).
Have you been up that small hill, Ben Nevis?
How scottish can you get, having a mcdonalds & Irn Bru to fuel up?? 😄
Look forward to your next vlog & thanks for taking the time & effort with your partner in crime, much appreciated!!
Thanks so much for the awesome comment, super appreciated! And yes I’ll be sure to give Glasgow another go :) I’ve done Ben Nevis a few times (before I started filming) and it’s on the list for a winter ascent :) thanks again so much!
Absolutely brilliant video again. Thank you. So enjoy watching your channel. You're in a different league. Your videos let the scenery do the talking, are extremely informative, entertaining, and exude class. Well done. Edinburgh is my second home.
Wow thanks so much for the kind feedback! You certainly inspire me to do more (another coming soon I promise!) cheers Julian!
@@steve-marsh Excellent - look forward to it.
Thanks for another great video Steve.enjoyed that one some cracking views.cheers to use both.🍺🍺👍
Glad you enjoyed it Derek, was a fun but exhausting day!
STOP! STOP! STOP making me feel so bad about all I missed in Edinburgh and all gd covid has kept me from enjoying!!!!!
What a wonderful video.
THANKS!
Cheers Jerry - this was a tiring day, my feet still remember it :)
Enjoy a pint on me!...
A lot of hills you both are covering 😮
Great Video Steve, can't believe it's been 9 years since I was last in Edinburgh...! Stay safe, can't wait for the next one.
Cheers! You need to get back soon :) Filmed another one today, so hopefully next week sometime :)
@@steve-marsh Unlike 9 years ago I now have two boys under 6. It would be like herding cats getting them up one hill, nevermind seven!
@@catcaptain6023 haha fair play :)
What a cracking challenge. I can only match it in my dreams. I did bag Arthur’s Seat, Carlton and Castle many years ago. 🥴
Your video inspired me to do this yesterday (couldn't have asked for better weather) with my partner who is from Edinburgh and she now thinks I've seen more of it in a day than she had up until now. Was great to jigsaw piece the different bits of the city I know together. We detoured to take in Dean village and back onto the water of leith in between Corstorphine and Craiglockhart (our fave view), refuelled by coincidence in that very same Tesco and kept Arthur's Seat for last. Bit strange it isn't an official trail as it really is a tour of the city.
Love your videos and great to see your channel growing!
Amazing Colm! So glad you got a nice day for it, but boy that would have gotten pretty hot!!! I totally agree, it needs a bit more status, a unique and scenic trail :)
Excellent! Thanks for the great video, my overdue visit to Edinburgh will definitely include this walk.
Cheers 👍
Edit. Didn’t realise that you are the guy whose videos I’ve already watched a few of.
Great content and style, and now subscribed.
Thanks so much for the support, makes it all worthwhile, more to come soon!
Great, looking forward to them.
Munro bagging next, eh? Smashing video, enjoyed the adventure as always thanks!
Cheers! :) a few winter Munro ascents in the masterplan :)
Steve, really enjoyed the tour of Edinburgh. I spent a day there back in the late 90's, took the "hop on hop off" tour. My plan is to come back one August for the military tatoos, and properly enjoy your city. Cheers from the US.
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you get back here soon! :)
Braw video from a fellow Edinburger. You must have been tempted to hop on a 26 to Corstorphine. 😂
I've been considering this myself.
Thanks mate! Oh yes, the temptation was definitely there :)
3.06 That’s a view I wake up to each day. Me and my partner got engaged at the top of the hill just above the ski slope. We climb it every year on our anniversary.
Wow Andy, that's the coolest view and story all in one comment!
love it
Cheers Adrian!
Great walk well done . Would like to try some of these hills also, one at a time though
They are all a great day out for sure, cheers for watching!
Another epic trek. I love long walks, but this would be pushing it a bit for me.
Cheers for watching! It was cool, certainly didn’t feel like 30k, I think because you are always just focussed on the next hill!
Awesome. The panoramic scenery is breathtaking matched only by the stamina both of you display.
Haha cheers Thomas, was feeling it in the legs afterwards!
What a fantastic video. One of the best I’ve seen. Beautifully filmed, informative, and some fun to boot! Was that the soundtrack from The Birds in the creepy forest? 😉 I have to compliment you on your editing skills as well, the music wasn’t blaring in relation to your voice… no need to keep turning the volume up and down, a pet peeve. I loved the various wide shots of the views. They were breathtaking. Kudos to making it to the end. I felt like I was there hiking along with you. (Patted myself on the back at the end for a job well done.) Thanks for sharing with us.
Haha cheers :) That walk is still a great memory and a perfect way to see the city! Thanks for the comments on editing, it's still a work in progress, but hopefully it's still getting better, can be a long process!
I love your videos I am getting over agoraphobia would love to get back to Edinburgh lived and worked there 1978
Cheers Tommy, a pleasure to be able to bring back some memories of the city!
