We live in a fast changing world and sometimes it is important to stop and see where we come from, as well as where we are going. At the beginning of this video, I talk about a polyglot talk dealing with the main tendencies in language learning in the past. You can watch it here:

This is the first time I have really listened to you in English. What a beautiful and perfect command you have of the language, as you do of many others! Remarkable and inspiring.
You are so kind, thanks a lot 😊
I think that more than anything, it's fascinating to see the language learning communities that have developed in recent years and continue to do so -- like Polyglot Gatherings and whatnot! But also more local communties, like language-learning cafes and bar nights. And online, of course, too. I hope these spaces in-person become more and more popular!
Yeah, I love such events (big and small), hope there will be more and more of those 😊
It seems that we can at least expect to see better language learning resources in the future, and more of them.
Currently though, we live in a time where there is a real need for comprehensible input material in many languages. I think this is quite exciting, because if you happen to speak a less popular language, then you can provide this content and benefit many people.
Eventually the lack of comprehensible input material will be reduced, and it should become easy to find this material for most languages.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts on this 😊
I'll have to take a look at the the video that you reference. Sounds really intriguing.
As far as language learning, I think we're seeing a shift from formal language learning (like in a classroom) to informal language learning (like on Italki or using CZcams channels). And in the future, AI will undoubtedly have an impact on language learning. It's not necessarily "good" or "bad", just different. Definitely a topic on which we're just cracking the surface.
And I'm like you, I'm a bit of a "dinosaur" when it comes to technology!
I am glad I am not the only dinosaur 🦖🦕 hehehe
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts on this 😌
Great job beautiful lady!! It took me a few days to get to this but I'm glad I watched it. Going to check out this site. Thanks!!
Thanks a lot, John! Glad you liked it 😌
I really loved your perspectives, Laura. I do believe that there has been a shift in learning from the traditional classrooms and textbooks, verb conjugation tables, and translations due to the Internet facilitating access to educational resources, and most of which are free and not time-dependent. For example, Duolingo, CZcams, various social media, and online forums to communicate to others to employ the target language. As for the rise of AI in the linguistics community, I do believe that it will play a role in the future, but everything that it "teaches" must be further researched and evaluated. AI still does not know regionalisms, heavy slang, outdated language, and cultural references very well. I have even seen AI make very obvious grammatical/lexical mistakes that a native or proficient speaker would never commit.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts on this 😊
I agree, I have seen some of those mistakes too 😯😯😯
But it also learns quite fast, so we will see 👀
This is a very hot topic, I see AI getting closer and closer to it at an accelerating rate. Learning methods are constantly improving. I think that's a good thing. It makes learning more interesting for a lot of people. You can spend a lot less time searching for and structuring information. AI sees the world in the same way as we learn language. AI has a large number of images and references, and each one has a certain meaning.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this 👍👍👍
Grazie tante, Simone!!! Come stai? Leggo la tua newsletter, è sempre un bel momento per me 😊
A te piacciono le domande filosofiche come a me 😁
i believe the og of language learning was pointing at things and imitating the sounds the natives make... the origin of language teaching was learning by heart and translating - like the romans used to learn greek, or how we used to learn (or not 😁) latin. today we have stuff like duolingo... i imagine two duolingo learners talking to each other using those weird phrases and a native listening in and facepalming... in the future we'll prob have realtime translation via gadget or implant and language learning will be as obsolete as making fire with sticks is today. and no one will know what they've lost...
I will continue learning languages even if it becomes obsolete 😁
People will be like "why is that grumpy old woman not using the chip?" 😂
There will be lots of new AI applications and they will tell us that we will learn languages better and faster. I'm not sure about this. Anyway, I'll continue to learn with real voices and real people.
Thanks for sharing your perspective on this topic 😊👍
