    Absolutely grateful that the first 2 parts were awesome, simply said professionally done. Pretty hard to come by for big budget movies nowadays. Confident that the 3rd instalment will be just as good with villeneuve at the wheel. You never know where it may go after that, praying that the Dune Saga does not go the way of the MCU, DCEU, Witcher, Madolorian ETC..... 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    Please don’t come for me when i say this. But i was a little let down Denis didnt find a good way to show the passage of time (actual book time of ~4 years) and have Alia be born. We didnt have to see her be born, or her grow up even, but all i was thinking afterwards was ‘it’s been 13 years since we saw the abomination of Renesmee in Twilight Breaking Dawn, and technology has come a long way, in that, there was a way to take the already young looking Anna Taylor Joy, and produce an amazing Alia atop a young child’s body movements.’ I was let down because i looked forward to seeing Alia taunting the Baron and the reverend mother. Secondly, I was pained there was ZERO mention of Hawat. Even a mention that he was a Hark-prisoner would have been nice. Third, I was sad to not get more of the voice used by Paul talking to the reverend mother about the place she dare not look and that he would be staring back at her. Fourth, even more of a hit, was he didnt use the “i remember your gom jabbar… now youll remember mine”. Anyways, thanks for listening to my Tedtalk. I know you can’t copy the book 100% but all of what i just said could have been conveyed in less than 10 minutes. There was absolutely time to fit that in.

    Chani didn’t go on her own because of the marriage. She left because Paul was turning into a messiah who would start a bloody holy war with the great houses and kill billions. That is exactly the path he feared and shared that with her earlier. And he was used her people to do that. Former friends were dropping to their knees to worship him. She is his moral compass and has to deal with Paul because she loves him. We’ll probably see that in Dune 3.

    • @shaunaray1
      @shaunaray1 Před 5 měsíci +2

      🙄😒Book Chani understood Paul in books, and that change was inevitable and was a pillar of strength for him to lean on in hard times. She was a runner-up to be revernd mother if Jessica died taking the water of life. When the fremen were having their spice orgy she took Paul away because his visions were connecting with the people, so she alone saw the frightening potential of the future to come. She did not blindly look at Paul as a messiah but accepted this harsh path he would go down and promised to be beside him. Change for the freme had to happen in order for them not to be wiped out, including their old way of challenging the strongest to the death for leadership. Zendaya's Chani came across as winy and Hella ignant, all for the sake of girl power energy and exposition. The director thought the audience was too stupid to understand.

    "I will love you until my last breath" (or as long as I breathe? idk I don't remember) wouldn't it be crazy if he actually did that already? Paul was dead for a moment... He took his last breath and when Chani woke him up, he was a whole new person who technically loved her until his death. After he's alive again, you notice the change of personality in the movie! He keeps telling her that same quote right before he chooses the hand of the emperor's daughter, which seems kinda contradictory and made that quote look as a lie. But what if Paul wasn't lying? Bro am I trying too hard to think of an explanation about such a rough and sudden relationship ending? Those scenes hurt me a lot.

      @IvoryJake Před 5 měsíci +3

      There was a scene where Paul was told to use marriage to further his rule and help his path, he knew that marrying the Emperor's daughter was exactly that. So, before doing so he wanted to make sure Chani knew that it was strictly for the better of everyone and not because he wanted to. He was only following the advice he was given.

    • @1stAEmil
      @1stAEmil Před 5 měsíci +2

      Paul followed in his father's footsteps and wanted a marriage just for political means. The reason why they didn't show it in the movies was because they wanted to make Channi look weak, I guess? In the book she is this super strong character that recovers from everything(loss of her and Paul's child, being a warrior, supporting Paul), I guess they need to make her more human and make her be jealous on an arranged marriage?

    6:40 Chuni didnt leave because of the marriage. She left coz of his Ascension as emperor. When Paul first proposed the marriage before the fight, chuni was shocked but didnt leave. She was hurt but understood it was for show, since he literally just told her he'd love her forever. The difference is important, because Chuni leaving Paul for the ascension marks a much bigger deal to the sacrafices they both know hes making. Hes not only giving up something as small as love, but also his life, and the peace of a galaxy.

    I put this in a reply, but I might as well comment too..
    *My official theory is that we are watching an alternate universe. Where Paul decides to take the water of life much earlier. He does this in order to ultimately save Chani's life down the line. By essentially pissing her off before their love reaches the point of no return, and before she comes to believe in Paul as the Messiah.*
    *This way they never have a child together. And she never becomes his concubine. And avoids the impending doom her path would entail, as written in Dune: Messiah.*
    *How does this work, exactly? Well, in Part 1 we see Paul having visions of Jamis becoming his best friend, who teaches him the ways of the Freman. This allows Paul to survive in the desert early on. But that path never comes to be. Because he KILLS Jamis upon meeting him in the ceremonial knife fight.*
    *So in THIS universe (and believe me, I do not like the oversaturated multiverse trope), he loves Chani so much that he sacrifices their bond to save her from where that fate would lead. And speeds up the timeline a full two years. Taking down the Baron Harkonnen and the Emperor before lady Jessica gives birth.*
    *He also has to fight Feyd Rautha two years earlier, before his powers and abilities are fully formed. Before he could "kill with a word". So he takes some extra stabby damage in that fight.*
    *Originally I thought of this as a way to not be so pissed about the terrible adaptation of Chani's character. And all her garbage dialogue in the second half of the film. Just so I could enjoy the movie more.*
    *But now I think that's actually what's happening here! And the Jamis visions are the proof. And it adds another layer of tragedy to the story, Paul sacrificing his great love story with Chani in order to save her. Which justifies the entire tone of the second half of the film. And why we are exposed to the certainty of the holy war to come. Rather than leaving it ambiguous, like Frank Herbert does in the book.*
    *It's NOT an adaptation. It's different path! Yay! That way when we get to part 3, we won't be disappointed by whatever it is. Because it can't be the original Dune: Messiah anymore. So be it!*

    • @hyun_0_0_0

    • @carpeimodiem
      @carpeimodiem Před 5 měsíci +3

      @hyun_0_0_0 never saw attack on titan. But the theory might be real. I may have unlocked the spicy secret sauce!
      In part 2, just before he decides to drink the water, he has more visions. He touches the spice upon the sand with his bare hand and calls to Jamis. "Talk to me, Jamis!" Jamis tells him, "He needs to see... as far as he can see! You need to see."
      Jamis is the key. The trail of bread crumbs added by the filmmakers. Not from the books. Showing us that Paul can see the world beyond this world. Not just the past and future. But into the splinters of time. The paths both chosen and unchosen. It's not as if he can make choices that would lead to being best friends with Jamis NOW. He's already dead. But he sees him none the less.
      It's the same with the visions he's had in the black ceremonial garb. With Chani beside him. Also dressed to match as his beloved concubine. And not as a soldier. That future is as good as gone. The future he gave up. The future in Dune: Messiah.
      *bah-buh-BAHHHH!!*
      *LISAN AL-GAIIIIIB!!!* 😫😫😫😫

      If my theory is correct, DV might not do Messiah at all! He might do a part 3 for the Holy War itself. Where Chani's army acts like a wildcard third wheel between Paul and the great houses. I have a feeling the Reverend Mother will make her french girl, pregnant with Feyd's baby, drink the water of life to give birth to an abomination of her own. As a way of evening out the odds with Jessica and HER powered-up baby!
      We might even get powered baby fight! It's all up in the air now... Anything goes in DV's Duniverse!

    I just wish they would have stayed a bit closer to the books as the ominous dialog between the "captive" Alia, Shaddam the Emperor, The Baron and the Reverend Mother Mohiam with Alia doing most of the talking just as Paul enters and declares who he is, is one of the best parts of that book. And why they didn't have Paul add that his marriage is one of convenience only and he would not lay with her as he loves another, which is kinda how things roll in Dune to be honest.

    Of all the plot that they shouldn't have included was the stupid Pocahontas Love Story, but no, they have to include that, but the worst travesty of this movie is suggest that Feyd should be a replacement for Paul in the plan of the Bene Gesserit. Anyone that wrote the script, film this movie and directed this read the books? Two things, one, the Feyd was never in the plan of the Bene Gesserit to create their perfect being, and like Paul, he is a male, that why the Bene Gesserit chastise Jessica for, because she was the key to create the perfect being, but they used the excuse to make peace with the Harkonnen with Jessica possible daughter and Feyd, that was really ridiculous and stupid, they totally break the plot by suggesting that.

      Bit of a simplistic reading of her character from your end. Chani's whole character revolves around her disliking the whole messiah prophecy aspect of Paul, she is a love interest who keeps Paul grounded. When Paul finally decided to accept the prophecy when chani herself claimed "this is how they enslave us", of course she is upset. It all comes to ahead when she realises Paul is so far gone from the man she loved when he is willing to strategically marry a the emperor's daughter, even when he loves chani. Going with the flow with Paul's holy war goes against her whole character.

When paul drank the water of life nothing is said or pertained to the fact that he was a superhuman. The only thing they were trying to do is set up for part three. Very disappointing to wait this long for a movie thats only done half assed.
