- I have been contemplating buying the Blue BB58 for the better part fo a year now and every time I venture into an AD, I walk out with another watch instead or empty handed.
I share the 1 main flaw that have stopped me from committing to buy this watch and finally after much deliberation, I pulled the trigger and purchased it.
Strap featured in this video is an ARTEM sailcloth strap: artemstraps.com
Watch box featured was purchased from ebay several years ago..no branding, its a one off
Thanks for watching..
cheers - Jak na to + styl
I think the green lume is an intentional choice. The 58 is a vintage style watch that homages the original Submariners. At that time, green lume was the game in town.
The Green Lume is what I love the most on this watch they did it green intentionally to go with the vintage vibe. However I understand your observation.
I've owned the black and guilt version for a couple of years now and absolutely love the thing. I'm even considering buying the blue version. Great watches.
I have a new one available ….😊
Hi mate, First time hearing anyone mentioning about the Lume color, however after you showing this, it make perfect sense! And they should listen to you! Well done mate too quality contents and videography as always!!
Cheers Felix
Lovely points raised Peter. They are so self evident that you wonder what the product developers are thinking! Lovely set of watches there.
This video put me over the edge to pull the trigger. I wasn't a fan of the rivets but knowing you can put it on a strap like this is great. Makes it look so good.
When it's dark - you don't see the blue colour - just the lume.... And the rivets - I love them!!
Your explanation makes sense to me! Still a brilliant watch and enjoy it in good health 👍
I never thought about it, you are so right about the blue. I don’t have much of an eye for design.
The green lume was a bit of a shock to me when I got mine. Fortunately, when it's dark enough for the lume to show - you don't see the blue of the watch! No biggy. Love it so much
I'm with you on the bracelet - took it off on day 3 and never looked back. The factory Nato strap is the finest strap I have ever used.
As always an excellent video Peter.
I guess you're illustrating how hard it is to get the perfect watch.
But this one definitely comes close. I have it it the black and gold and I love it though watching this does make me want a blue one too.
Keep up the good work mate.
Great video. Longines is the value point for Swiss watches. I looked at the Tudor but saved a fortune and bought a 41mm blue Hydroconquest with ceramic bezel, the upgraded movement and BLUE lume
Mate! This in blue officially is my favourite watch, no more and no less. To my eyes it's the watch which the most perfect proportions. Congrats!
I really appreciate your reviews after the SOTC. This video is really great. Well done. It was very enjoyable.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats Peter. A beautiful watch. And it's available... Great strap as well. Enjoy! I'll wait until Tudor comes with a blue lumed watch that looks as good as this one.
As always, enjoy seeing the world of watches through your developed eyes. It’s a double edge sword for sure. As the saying goes “you don’t want to see the world through my eyes” In a store /box full of nice watches the BB 58 always manages to Seek attention. Cheers
It’s a diver’s watch and green light spectrum penetrates deeper, brighter especially in murky water. The blue blends in into the surrounding and will take awhile for your eyes to focus on it. I’m talking about underwater scenarios and not in a coffee shop..😅
Great vid! Been thinking about picking up a BB58 as well.
Those straps are gorgeous.
I love the 58 and that Seiko, I have the 58 in black and gilt absolutely love it
Sir (this is a long one) your videos are really brilliant. I love the way you delve into the minutiae of design, and how these tiny choices reflect on what we fall for in these time pieces. It’s interesting that you discuss blue watches as I am just looking at picking up a Blue Omega Hour Vision - possibly Omegas most underrated piece. The reason being, in a couple of weeks of digesting your Sinn 556a review, and wearing this piece primarily on the bracelet, am looking to shift out most of my watches, I realise this does literally everything that I need as a daily wear - and the Blue Omega adds a piece that can dress up or down to sit alongside it. A weekend piece if you will. Maybe not just 2 😂 but definitely shrinking down massively. This is the Sinn that I was almost ready to sell, so god bless you, and thank you for showing me the light and really educating and changing my perception on design.
Thank you for sharing David.
Its amazing what each of us sees in watches, this is a wonderful hobby for each of us and very personalised too..
Enjoy that Sinn and best of luck with the Omega too 👍
Don’t get the rivet hate, can’t see them on wrist. Looking forward to the T-clasp being widely integrated soon. Also, I found a miracle half link substitute from uncle Seiko. Game changer until you can get the T-clasp imo. Also agree, while I don’t mind the green lume as it lasts all night, blue would been awesome just like the pelagos lume
Once one CZcamsr makes a complaint, the others line up to follow. The rivets are true to the design. The lume is true to the design. It's also a great unisex watch, which very few, if any, male reviewers mention.
I own the black/gilt OG o leather and I love it. The green lume suits the black dial's creamy lume plots. Enjoy your BB58!
Love those rivets. Black and Gilt is my 58 of choice.
I wasn't following you on the lume until you put it under uv light. Huge difference!! And your right the strap does look cheap.....
You know what you are 100% right about that lume. I never noticed or thought about it but yeah I can totally see it. I have the silver dial BB36 and the lume on it is so good that the plots look green even in daylight, I can imagine this does the same thing.
Should have been BGW9 100% agree.
I have to agree on the lume. I know what you mean with Tudor too, I have almost bought one twice, plumping for different options both times.
Still considering one as my next big purchase but don’t yet know if I will get over the line!!!
The lack of on the fly adjustment to the clasp would seem to be not a design flaw but something that should have been included but wasnt. The lume growing green wouldnt bother me too much since you cant see the blue of the dial in the dark but it would have been a nice touch if it were blue.
@@shahrulothman9302 no, design flaw means something went wrong but not on purpose. The lack of micro adjustment is on purpose or has never even been considered for whatever reason - budget, looks (design), etc.
@@shahrulothman9302 in this example I’d say it must have been on purpose. But I see your point - a product may have a design flaw not only went something went wrong but also when someone involved in its design made a stupid decision.
I totally agree on the lume colour. I find it jarring but not to the extent that it would stop me from buying it. Mainly because when it gets dark, I do not really see the dial colour anymore. But from consitency perspective, the blue watch would be nicely complemented by a blue lume.
That’s why i purchased the black BB58 and my secondary choice was the Northflag! That has an awesome blue luminous.
Looks great on the Artem strap Pete! Agree about the lume. 💙
Thank you for another awesome review! I don't own a Tudor, but I'm considering one.
These modern BB58's are exceptional value in the luxury watch world. So pleased with this👍
I have both the black and blue version of the 58 and I also have the blue one on the Navy Artem sail cloth strap which I think looks awesome.
Overall I love the watches and don't mind the rivets as it brings something a little differen't to my collection.
Like both, would love to have a Tudor Blue Bay 💙
I love the watch and I love the green lume. I bought it this weekend and it almost stands shoulder to shoulder with my Rolex’s, in fact it’s only the strap quality that is a step down. This watch will be relegating my Rollie’s to the safe for a while.
This is the reason I didn’t purchase this watch , it looks cold & clinical , I have the original bb58 and the silver. And I love them both , great video, but has made me re consider
Thanks for the video Peter. The rivets don't bother me that much, I tried an oyster bracelet whithout rivets and it felt and looked strange. That watch is so simple, the rivets are making it a bit more interesting. The clasp, well one hole more would be nice, maybe I'll let my AD drill one. I get the lume, I am a photographer myself, not so bad on my black one though. What bothers me the most is how lost the strap looks in the lugs (sorry for bringing that up), The spring bars sit low and to far a way from the case. I am a bracelet guy, so not such a big deal for me and with my tropical (that sits quite bulky in the lugs) it looks ok.
I like the BB58's blue tone in both the dial and bezel. I agree it would have been better with blue lume. but, as you stated, the positives far outweigh the negatives.
I've been contemplating which BB58 to get. The blue was a top contender. The 925 silver would have been the top had they made a matching bracelet... I doubt they make a silver bracelet for it. I like the bb58 bronze a lot as well. Glad they made it in 39mm. Bronze has been done, but the fact that the bracelet is also in bronze with a cool clasp with adjustment system makes it very unique.
But, I think I might have my eye on that new BB58 Pro as the one to get. Besides the new design, it also has the new clasp and I like the touch of yellow and how they made the new "3d" lumed index markers on the dial.
Very nice watch and looks really beautiful on that strap! Totally agree for the blue lume! All other of your cons can pass but lume should be blue for sure!
Peter I think this video is the best BB58 Blue on CZcams. It convinced me to buy one. Keep up the great work!
Enjoy the watch
Boring to some, beautiful to others 👍
Peter- really understand you with ‘hunting‘ for this Watch the way is also the target 4 me. Get going on with your reviews + your personal opinion ✅ valued
Hey i think they made the right choice i prefer green over blue but i would of liked c3x1 ivory look in daylight. The bracelet is good the clasp is slim wish you showed it in more detail !
Thanks
I never noticed the lumme being green. Honestly, never bothered me. As for the bracelet, I do wish it had more on the fly adjustment capability, but I seemed to have found the sweet spot just by adding / removing links and tweaking the micro adjust. I find it to be one of the most comfortable watches I’ve worn. I did pick up a half link from Uncle Seiko. Haven’t had the need to use it yet, but the quality, design and look is spot on with the Tudor links. The Artem strap you selected looks amazing on this watch. Great choice my friend. Definitely will look into that exact strap. Keep up the excellent video quality and amazing photography.
Cheers John
I couldn't get on with the black/gilt but really like the blue. Also 60 click all the way, I love turning my Squale and Mido and wish a few more watches went back to it
Got this watch on the bracelet a month ago. Loving it so far- the rivets aren't great but you don't notice them wearing it, otherwise the bracelet feels well made and comfy. Struggled to get the right sizing due to the lack of adjustment and it does fit a bit tight but I don't notice it now- hope to get a NATO for the summer for it. Apparently the lume is lighter on the blue than the black dial- don't mind it and it looks great- it's usually worn under a jacket or jersey at this time of year so it doesn't show much- when it gets the sunlight to charge it looks stunning. Gains 2-3 seconds a day when worn, but this is within the COSC certification so can't complain about that. All in all would give it 9/10- can't really see how paying double or more for a Rolex would offer much improvement.
Thanks for sharing Howard and good observations with your piece 👍
cheers
I agree with you, the lume should be blue. Blue just also look more modern than green to me.
Hi Peter. It’s a beautiful watch. I’m sure after wearing it for awhile the lume will matter less. I’d love to have it with that lovely blue strap. Enjoy and thanks for the video.
Cheers John, yeah Ive learnt to overlook that lume 😊👍
I agree. I love the 58 and bought it and love it BUT the bracelet is a dogs breakfast due to the bracelet. No half link and the micro doesn’t allow a better figment. So got a uncle seiko half link: better fit but now have retro fitted a Steinhart oyster and am now putting a forstner clasp on it. That will get me through to the forstner oyster release. Oh and one final point the swing arm protrudes sharply to the wrist
I agree with everything. Especially the clasp. Tudor just released the BB Pro with the newer clasp w. hidden on the fly adjustment. I hope it’ll be included in future BB58 releases
Maybe time to upgrade that bracelet 😊
I don’t own a BB 58 but do own a Heritage with a burgundy dial. (I have larger hands and thick wrists.) I don’t understand all the hate with regard to the faux rivets. I quite like them because they are unique to the Tudor. I completely agree with the micro-adjustment or lack there of. An on-the-fly micro-adjustment would make this watch perfect in my eyes. Thanks for the video and cheers!
Oris also use faux rivets
@@TWS001 - I didn't know that. That is a make I don't know much about but will study up.
@@jons78733 Oris are a good brand but not as luxury as Tudor for example. They are still independent which is quite impressive.
I would have a tough day of it trying to figure out which one to reach for Especially if they're in the same watch box Your a way better man than me my friend Thanks for sharing 👍
Currently its been 99% Seiko wrist time and 1% Tudor
But hopefully that will change to a more balanced ratio as the honeymoon period wears down on the Seiko 😊
@@PeterKotsa Yea good luck with that my friend
@@michaelj8793 😂
The bb58 blue is stunning and I never thought I would say this but next to the Seiko Sla, it seems slightly underwhelming. The sla finishing is absolutely immaculate wow. Both stunning pieces though and the bb58 is a modern classic congrats on your purchase
Which SLA? There are loads of them. You mean the SLA055?
Re: the lume color - you can't see the blue color at night when the green is glowing. One might consider this a plus, not a minus. Depends upon perspective I. Glad you finally bought it. Good vid. Keep at it.
Very true..👍
Cheers Mark
Great video and an interesting criticism. For me, anything other than green lume is usually a turn off; I want my lume to be BRIGHT and that means green.
Super love how you shot the watch and showcased the colour change of the Lumes. Now I’m curious what robot you attached the camera to for that precise movement.
Im a professional photographer, I can't give away my secrets..😊
I completely agree with you with the rivet bracelet though after wearing it grew on me plus you don’t see the rivet on the bracelet when you are wearing it! So I don’t mind the bracelet, though I did buy an uncle Seiko Jubilee Bracelet and used the Tudor clasp and it completely changed the appearance of the watch, it gives it a modern retro and classic/Classy Look. I have the Black BB58 with brown indices and gold hour marks, hands and I have to say it’s Beautifully put together and it was meant to be. I have the Tudor BB58 GMT Pepsi 41mm and I like it better and your able to wear it with dress clothes!!
Great video! Just not sure if I agree with the lume comment. I don't think we should expect the lume color to match the dial. There're pretty much only 2 colors available when it comes to the lume: blue or green, but dial color varies in dozens. So it is very natural that lume will be in a different color than the dial/bezel. Also when in darkness, we don't really see the dial color... Put it in an extreme way, I wonder what a black lume would look like if that's the expectation on a black watch?
I absolutely love the lime on mine.
Still a wonderful wrist watch... I love it regardless of the lume.. Are you right? Yeah probably, but if I could afford it I would not let that hold me back... Bracelet does not look bad either. My two cents. Great video, thank you for sharing. Nino
Cheers Nino
With you all the way about the faux-rivet bracelet, so I bought my BB58 on the leather strap and bought a third-party Strapcode bracelet which I think looks better - that said, I usually wear the watch on Natos anyway.
Mine is the Black, so the lume isn't as much of an issue.
That Seiko looks cool! I'm off to research it...
Agree that the lume would have been better in white or ievence blue. Many people pick up on the faux rivets but I never notice them either on or off the wrist.
Pete, yeah I hear you.
Have you looked at the Microbrand, Nomadic Marai 401.
You probably have…
I just saw it on the Timeless Watch Channels latest video.
Love your stuff mate.
Stay Handsome.
I'm a proud owner of the SLA043 and loved your review of it. I've owned the BB58 black twice, but sold it on twice as well. Not exactly sure why. Ultimately I guess the SLA043 is my preference between the two and they are similar enough that I didn't need both. Equally great watches in their own right!
I must say I don't think I could part with the SLA, there is something really special about the way it makes one feel
As for the Tudor, I am glad that i took a year or so to decide to pull the trigger, because I had to be sure I really wanted it for ME👍
Very happy with both, happier with the Seiko though 😊😂
@@PeterKotsa You nalied it with the SLA043. It feels special and I actually spend a ridiculous amount of time staring at it when I wear it lol. The BB58, while great, just never made me feel that way.
You see how cannot be discussed about taste. I love those rivets, even fake ones. Ițll buy that watch for the riveted bracelet
I agree 100 percent with you on the lume being 10 times better if it was blue. Aesthetically it would look so much better given the blue dial and bezel. However, I believe the reason they went with the green lume (I could be completely wrong here but just my thought) is to try and keep true to that vintage inspiration. It's the reason we have faux rivets, an aluminum bezel, and the old school green diver's lume. They could have just as easily put blue lume like Rolex does on their new subs, but I think they wanted to stay true to that vintage inspiration. I'm sure there are vintage divers out there with blue lume but most of us associate vintage divers watches with green lume (looking at you seiko!) . But man it would have looked so much better blue!
Yeah that sounds about right 👍
Oh well, it’s ALMOST perfect 😊😂
This man bought a P01. This is the one guy. He’s the one.
Nice one Peter. Prefer the SLA as it's more exciting with that blued second hand! But hey, you have both! Problem solved! 😉😂
Hi Peter. Maybe I am less picky than you but I am fine with any Lume colour as long as it performs it's function. BB58 is a gem and I will get one of these for sure (one day). The new Tudor BB Pro that was launched 2 days ago at W&W is amazing as well. The clasp is improved 👏 but you'll still have to live with the rivets. With the GMT function and the strong cue from Rolex 1655, it's gonna be a winner. Maybe only the thickness (14.6mm) might be a deal breaker for some.
Yeah saw that, if they could refine the thickness, I would be all over it. But in saying that, maybe the wrist experience is fine regardless of the thickness, lets wait and see
For me, the flaw is the lack of a date complication. I have to have a date.
Your Seiko SLA043J is the cats meow, to me the best watch in the business, on the Artem straps, just untouchable.
BGW9 doesn't shine as bright as C3 to human eyes. C3 appears brighter to us because our vision is more sensitive to green than blue.
The missing quick adjust on the clasp is not „nitpicking“ to me, it is a no go. Christopher Ward (and Zelos) manages to provide quick adjust in watches of a much lower price point.
Invicta and Orient (but not seiko for some reason) as well.
So, I am looking to add a blue dial watch to the collection. If you could only pick one would you choose this model or the Seiko SLA037J1/SLA043J1?
I like the 037, I think its tone of blue is very nice, also I think the rubber strap that comes with it looks nicer than the ones offered with the 043
However , with that comes a a few extra $$
The only think I do not like about the 037 is the highly polished sides of the case..I prefer the brushing of the 043
As for the BB58..thats a keeper and not going anywhere..love it and easy on the eyes and wrist
Touch call..😊
fuuuuuk. im on a waiting list for this. Didnt realize the lume was green :( well, i still need it 😄
It’s a nice watch on the Artem strap , I’m going to put one on my Seiko diver , very stylish. I love your Seiko better than the Tudor still , I know the Seiko costs more but I want that watch :)
I like my Seiko better than my Tudor too..hahaha
The Seiko is a little bit 'special' in various ways
Love the quirkiness of individual tastes...For me, blue lume would be too matchy matchy, I don't mind the green at all and quite like it!
for me: The crown gap, why wouldn't they close the gap instead of sprung out gap that made the watch look un-screwed. Anyone felt the same?
i agree with you
Hi Peter, you should really try the half-link from Uncle Seiko, made for this watch. It is flawless and it changed the bracelet wearing experience to 10/10.
A few people have told me the same, I will look into it👍
Hi Pete.
No beach footage on this review🙁
I think the Seiko has a more refined finish over all. Thanks.
Yeah, not really a review of this watch yet, I will do one in the near future as I think it deserves a few months on the wrist.
As for the Seiko, I have to pry it off my wrist to get more wrist time with the Tudor,...a very difficult task as the honeymoon continues into the second month 😊
Cheers Jeff
Im also perfectionist and i agree with you i think they just dont think that deep about details and they just put green lume. But i dont think its bad 99% of the time when i turn the lights off im going to sleep, i dont like to sit in dark room so i dont care about lume overall. I like strong lume a lot but i dont find it necessary in a watch. The only positive for watch to have lume is you can read the time easier at the day, cuz they are filled with lume not full polished/brushed like on some dress watches they dissapear.
What strap is that? I need that for my blueberry
Hey Pete, I understand your reservations about the faults in this BB58, they make sense to me too. Being a relative new horology fan my question is this, can you possibly modify or have the dial markers and pip modified with blue lume?
It can be done at a good watchmaker, but it not worth it. I will learn to live with the green 😊
Blue lume, you saw me standing alone, without a watch on my wrist, without a love of my own
😂
I hope the T-fit clasp of the Pro can fit this watch.
Funny, but I'm about to buy the BB58 in blue now myself.
you're 100% right. I never thought of it before, but 'small details' are the key to falling in love with a watch. I would have loved Blue-lume and some micro-adjustment system like the Glashutte would have been wonderful. I love the smaller size too. I have a Rolex 6263 from when I was a kid and the size still feels "right".
This made me laugh. I could point out several things I find less fitting design choices on this watch, e.g. way too much cluttered dial text or a subpar font choice on the aluminium bezel or the somehow dainty looking knurling on a rather chunky case design, but the green lume is actually a nice contrast to me!
Peter, wondering if you can offer me some insight. I’ve been looking at this model more and more. Whenever I managed to save up enough for a submariner the price always rose just as I had saved up enough. I really want a 14060 but with the prices $10K plus I’m looking at this for an alternative. Thoughts?
Honestly, if you're after a Submariner, this will not scratch that itch for you.
I purchased my Tudor because it was ideal in size and proportions..almost the perfect watch as it is borrowing from the early Subs case size and fits beautifully on the wrist.
The sub to me is a very different watch altogether these days..a lot more bling different proportions and presence on the wrist.
Buy what you really want bro, or else you will not be happy.
If you pick a Tudor, buy it because THATS what you want 👍
Cheers
My blue RLG Odyssea has green lume. I’m very happy with it. Then again it did only cost me $600. If I were to be paying the big dollars for a watch like the Tudor I would like blue lume and an on the fly clasp, and a free all expenses paid holiday.
Hahahahahahahaha
Blimey 2 new watches in a week , lucky you. I've not tried a bb58, only a pelagos from tudor. They are really nice watches though. I nearly went for a pelagos , but I read that the lumed bezel markers have actually fell off some watches. So that put me off to be honest. I quite like Ali bezels , because of the patina over time. I really like the bb gmt, but the extra hand would drive me crazy . I wish they did that red blue bezel on a normal bb. Side by side with the seiko though , the seiko looks more expensive, but the bb does have it's own charm. I do have to say I prefer the bb on a bracelet though, as I feel the lug gap looks a bit odd when they are on a strap. It would be nice if they could incorporate a glide lock system on the bracelet, to really finish it off. I also agree the lume would have been better in blue. I'm struggling to wear anything else since I got my sla043, although I still enjoy my 051. Great vid as always Peter, you'll have to do a state of the collection soon , to see what you flipped etc ...
I still can't pull trigger on that BB but for other reason - lack of money ;-)
Please do a video comparing BB and SLA pls!!
I will do it, too many viewers have been asking me the exact same thing.👍
I can't disagree. That would drive me crazy as well. What a missed opportunity.
The things you think are flaws are the reasons I like it. Green lume is the only lume for me.
I also have the blue 58. I love this watch but I still think that it’s slab sided. If you look at Tudor subs they have a much more interesting case design. I feel that the case is boring and could be improved. I love the black dial as well but the gilt on the bezel kills it for me.
Nice buy Pete.heard a lot of negatives about the BB.if u keep it for six months a revisit video would b good.it looks fantastic especially on that strap .obviously u have robbed a bank lately or has the collection diminished 🤭🤭🤣🤸♀️.thanks mate.
