    I love this generation of Eclipse. I worked at a Mitsubishi dealer several years back , they sold well at first from 06 to 08 until the economy crashed. The V6s were fast , capable of mid 14s in the1/4 mile on a good track. But they were nose heavy and pushed in turns. After driving several Eclipses I bought a Certified Preowned mid level Eclipse SE model with the 2.4 Mivec 4 motor because it had the GT suspension and wheels and cost less. They actually handled better than the GTs because of it having roughly 50/50 weight distribution. It wasn’t as fast as a Gt but it was a lot of fun! Great sound system too, Drove the heck out of it for a year, then traded up to a family sedan due to newborns. These were beautiful cars in person! Bring em back Mitsubishi!

    what bothers me is that for being such a big V6 the 3.8 should have put out like 280hp or more.

      You should talk shit on Ford getting only 150 out of the Essex 3.8 in the 90s

      Jaunge It is ! several road tests back then had the V6 at 14.4 at 98 mph on a good track. Good driver, etc

    • @dougsmith7908
      @dougsmith7908 Před 5 lety +2

      phoenix21studios Yes . Even the 2.4 4 banger could run 15.7 on a good day, I used to sell em and read all the online reviews. MotorWeek uses an old uneven test track and just average drivers.

    The ones with the 3.8L V6 are quicker than the Acura NSX and Toyota MR2 Turbo around Suzuka. That's pretty incredible.

    This car understeers so much in the corners during my test drive back in March. I then drove the Mazda MX-5 Miata next and suddenly felt as if God had rescued me from the Eclipse's horrible understeer hell. Plus, the engine bay is prone to rusts. Serveral Eclipses I looked at had rusts in their engine bay. What a shame.

    @Footloose301 well what color did you get it in? I gurantee if you got in black it would have been a panty dropper lol... thats the only color it looks great in. I'm considering buying a used 2006 GT V6 right now in Black... with only 33,000 miles... it looks badass, only in black though :P

  • @LoyalmoonieProductions

    I can sort of agree with that.
    Maybe that's why Mitsu's sales of the Eclipse were sagging in it's final years.

    I bought one new in 2006 and it has been a pain in my ass since. People kept rear ending me - I have had the reaer bumper replaced 3 times. At first, no one had ever seen it since it was a nice body style and I have the orange paint. I would park in the last row in a Wal Mart parking lot and 5 minute slater, there would be someone parked right next to me despite hundreds of closer spots. In 92K miles: cat coverter, timing belt, water pump, valve replace, three O2 sensors, cant get aligned.

      true, but before motorweek tested the 2006 Eclipse, their last Eclipse they tested was the 2003 GTS, which took 8.1 seconds to reach 0 to 60.

    Good review. Okay car. I bought a 2007 GTV6 with all the options and liked the test drive and power. However, I had it for a week and I was able to give it a good test drive without the salesman and I wasn't happy. It's slow as hell and handles like a boat. I ultimately decided to pay a bit more per month and got a Nissan 370Z. It's a shit load faster, a lot better handling mostly due to RWD, and overall it's a panty dropper. Nobody gave me a nice compliment when I brought home the Eclipse. Nea

    motorweek cant drive at all, the manual is very easy to shift between gears with the power always being there, 2nd/3rd gear pulls hard and well. This car is rated at mid to high 5sec 60 times which shows they cant drive

    • @KevinCruz-pu2ue
      @KevinCruz-pu2ue Před 7 lety

      I own one of these, and the clutch *is* soft. It's very difficult to get those 5ish 0-60s. The car can do it, but if you give it even just a little too much juice on launch, the clutch just won't bite until you completely get off the gas and it'll burn out after failing enough times. If you upgrade your clutch at the service interval, it's much easier to do. The stock clutch was not made for drag strip runs and launches.

    • @manfromnantucket9544
      @manfromnantucket9544 Před 6 lety

      Kevin Cruz I can vouch for that. Absolutely toasted my stock clutch on the last drag night of the season. Stage 4 six-puck, Luk DMF & Quaife LSD should fix that tho ;)
