- Checking rear tire pressure, or adding air to the rear tire, of a Can-Am Spyder can be a challenge.
I found a tire stem valve extension online, and we’ll try it out together. Unfortunately we have some inoperable air pumps in Niagara Falls. Of course, we’ll also go for a ride to enjoy the Spyder.
This channel chronicles my adventures as a minimalist on a 2023 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited, my only conveyance. We’ll go on a great adventures, near and far from my home base in Niagara Falls, NY, as well as jaunts to the grocery store and other mundane errands. We’ll also discuss accessories and gear for the Can-Am Spyder.
I usually wear a Tourmaster Transition 4 jacket, a Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet, and either Klim Baja gloves or Joe Rocket Windchill gloves. I use a GoPro Hero 10 camera and a Purple Panda mic, and I edit video with iMovie with an iPad Pro.

good move with the extension, still a pain but more workable.
Hey there, I found that Checking ‘Air Tire’ pressure a pain to do on the Spyder, specially the back tire, so I Purchased the FOBO Bike 2 BT Tire pressure monitoring system (make sure to order the trike version) . You replace the stem caps with these, then install an app on your phone. You can now check your tire pressure on a regular bases, every time you’re about to go out for a ride for example :-). Works amazingly and the batteries last about a year in each pressure gauge cap. It warns you if you fall below a pressure threshold you set. They work very well and have never had an issue with them. On my third year using them. They also come with locking mechanism (key bolt system) so they can’t be easily stolen (removed). The FOBO app also works with BRP Connect (GO), so you can monitor your tire pressure as you drive if you wish to do so.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Greetings from Southern Ontario! I'm really enjoying your videos, keep it up.
Two points. 1. You don't have to keep Spyder running to move it. One key turn to the right and unlocking the brake will do it. Just don't push or pull from the hand bars or you could damage the alignment. 2. Most power tool companies offer a portable air compressor. I have a Makita and it works great, worth the investment for sure.
I keep a portable compressor in my side case but I don’t have the 12V/USB charger installed yet. That happens next Wednesday. As to rolling the Spyder, good tip, thanks!
Here in Mexico the air is free, however you cant fill your air, or gas on your own. There is always a tender, and although optional, one usually tip. In Sweden, the air is always free. But like anything else about Swedes, its DIY. lol.
Hey, if you can find a Sheetz gas station, they usually have air for free and pretty decent MTO food as well.
I am not sure about that extender, seems to be more work then going directly on the valve cap.
I enjoy your videos and always press like and write a little, or not so little comment. It is good for your algorythm score and helps your channel. Talking about that. Your getting close to 1000 subscriberts. I looked at how many videos and watch time you need, so you are getting closed to becomeing monotized. Just a heads up, if you have not already done it, you should register on adsense as it may take a while to get approved. That way your good to go when you reach 1000.
Cheers from Swede in Mexico
I used to live in Pennsylvania and I LOVE Sheetz!
@@SpyderMinimalist I have lived in NC and loved it. There are non where you are?
@@magnusb6311 not here, but just south of me in PA.
Yes checking pressure and adding air is a challenge always. Your add to find the stem is a good idea.
Even one pound over is good...in this weather..😊
I always check my M/C tyres when they are stone cold.....
Didn't know that you had to pay for air in the USA. Air is free here in Australia 😊
Yes, most pumps require a credit card. Some of the older pumps require coins.
I use a small Harley Davidson air compressor to fill my RT'S tires.
I plug it into my battery tender cord and have the Spyder running. But yes that rear tire is a corker to check and fill. Safe Travels.
That is the exact extension I use ! I believe it's the best one. I had a Big Bike parts model that locks on the valve stem, and it's terrible about letting air out when you remove it. I trashed that one.
Got back of four on Amazon for ten bucks.
I recommend you buy a 12 volt air pump and keep it and a tire repair kit in the bike. I check my rear pressure at home lying down and it’s much easier. Yes it’s still a pain but since the tires are tubeless a repair kit and pump take up little room and could really save the day. Battery jumper is also good to have. You know the old saying that if you have it you probably won’t need it. Enjoy your videos. Hope you get to see the eclipse.
I have a portable air pump but my 12V/USB charger won’t be installed until next week. As to the eclipse, I shot a cool video on it.
Purchase a set of FOBO 2 tire monitors for trikes. Save you the hassle of checking that rear tire.
I definitely need to check them out. Thanks!
Extension is a good idea. I bought a garage compressor and dont do air at stations any more.
I’ve got a portable compressor but I need a 12V charger installed to use it. That happens next week.
Good video. You would think motorcycle companies would install TPMS on the big bikes unless there’s some crazy reason why they wouldn’t work. Checking air in my electraglide rear tire is a chore. Selling that this year and hoping to get a 24 RT Limited this summer.
Totally agree TPMS is needed, especially considering the price of these machines. Good luck in your purchase this summer.
@@SpyderMinimalist Thank you
P.S. also take a look at the Air Moto portable air compressor with built in pressure gauge, works good. Good luck.
Thanks for the tip!
That back tyre does look more awkward to get to. I have seen 90 degree valve extenders on eBay but that depends if your tyre valve is straight to start with?
I think the flexibility of the extension is important for it to work.
@@SpyderMinimalist Yes I agree, anyway looking forward to the eclipse tomorrow. 👍😎
@@mum-0217 me too!
Man I have never had to pay for air here in New Zealand.
Almost all air pumps here charge a fee.
Buy yourself a small portable compressor to keep in your frunk.
I’ve got one, in the same case where I keep the stem valve extension. Problem is I don’t have a 12V charger to power it. I get that and a USB charger next Wednesday, along with a rear rack and a back rest.
Did you check the pressure when cold when you washed the SpYder?
Yes, added about a pound to each. Can’t wait to get my 12V charger next week so I don’t have to deal with gas station pumps.
Have you noticed that even today 4/7, the shadows are different today verses normal?
I’ve not noticed that, but could be a lead up to eclipse.
Valve stem. Just saying. 😮
99% of spyders i see or work on have a over inflated rear tire. 25psi or even 24 is correct. You should be getting 45k out of the tires if not they are all over inflated - 15psi front 25 rear believe me
Interesting. Different from what factory recommends.
45k??? is that feet? Normal for the rear is 3000-4000 miles. I could have stretched my first rear tire to 3500 but it was close. That's properly inflated and not flogging it.
Wow really only 3 to 4k?? Most are getting at least 15k with overinflated kenda tires. 45k is normal with correct pressure of 26psi and a normal automotive radial.. all my builds last at min 45k to 50k
You have to pay for Air? Strange 🤔
Yes, almost every pump here requires payment.
What a scam. Air should be free
My error
Not sure what you mean. This video has lots of comments. Let me go check settings.
Checked settings and the comments option is on. 28 comments so far, including yours. Could you please clarify?
Count your actual comments. As I made another one last night that was not published
You’re checking the pressure when it’s not cold.
Check your pressure now and compare to the video. They will be off 2 or three pounds.
Get some TPMS monitors FOBO bike 2 is the most common used and. Can be read from your phone or the bike. This way you get real time data.
Also that extension will change the balance of the tire. It won’t make a huge difference but it will have an impact
Get a small portable compressor so you can check at home when they are cold.
@@DFWMoose was your comment on this video or another?
Aren’t the pressures supposed to be check when tire is cold before riding?
Yes. I’m washing the Spyder tomorrow and will check again then. I wanted to demonstrate the extension and my portable compressor won’t work until my 12V charger is installed next week.
