I've been a Penske fan for close to 30+ years, I always thought Roger very much frowned upon cheating, there is no way he knew what was going on. That's my opinion and I'm gonna stick with it.
I have been a Penske fan since I was a child and I would like to believe what you said but I think he's mad that they got caught not that they were cheating. Do you remember the Trans Ams that were acid dipped to save weight

The owner would tell guys to cheat and not involve him. But he likely gave orders to cheat.
You do know that his teams slogan used to be "The unfair advantage" right? Have you read Mark Donahue's book? The one where he reveals all the cheating done on the Trans Am Cameros (it went WAY beyond the famous acid dipping)? Or how he enjoyed Can Am because "With no rules you don't have to spend time "working around them"....Roger knew every last violation done by his teams back in the day....before he was a billionaire and you don't become a billionaire unless you know exactly what's happening in your companies 24/7. He knew. He got caught, he got embarrassed, he lied to cover up, that's racing.

I've known people who have worked for Penske companies. I have trouble with the idea that his employees would have done something like this as a rogue operation. Best I can tell, he's a chain of command kind of guy more than most.

My favorite Penske cheating story was from back in the 60’s. He had one car that sent to an aerospace company to acid dip to make light. They had 2 identical Camaros. They would qualify the faster car and then switch the number and qualify it again as the other car. That takes balls…

Um, you do know that Shelby and Bud Moore were acid dipping their cars in 1967, right? That is how Roger found out. It is true that the had one lightweight car in 1968 and switched them for qualifying by using different numbers. Why didn't you mention how Bud Moore was using illegal traction bars that were hidden from inspectors? How about when Kar Kraft drooped the front ends of the Mustang for 1969, which was totally illegal?

Kenny, you called it a few weeks ago. When you said something like this was gonna happen, you, the man.
If Roger Penske was serious and wanted to send a serious message, he would have suspended the drivers as well. But that would have theoretically eliminated them from championship contention for the remainder of the year. Which tells me he wasn't very serious. Public relations stunt at best ... and I'm a fan of the teams.

When I was over in Saudi and we needed supplies to build a deck for rainy season but the commander said he couldn’t get any wood I said give me keys to the truck. He said here they are and I don’t won’t to know anything. Deck got built the next couple of days.

I’ll give Penske credit for voluntarily suspending his guys (especially considering it’s the 500). It’s still unfortunate Cindric still hasn’t taken responsibility and considering that guy is supposed to take over Penske after Roger still has me very concerned. Mr. Penske has a lot to think about in terms of who he wants to take the helm

This is window dressing at best. He needs to sell the team or the series or both. This is a conflict of interest is creating messes like this. How can one investigate the other with the same owner? The series is in a very bad place and has gotten since his ownership. He has invested in various race venues however nothing effectively in the series, Andretti/Rahal/Ganassi complaining non stop about it and want help, they recognize the bigger of the series and its in trouble. Penske is too busy trying to please promoters and race track owners
There's no question that racing teams push the limits for speed, durability, winning! Some is outright breaking the rules...CHEATING! Some is taking an extreme view of the rules (tolerances for example) and looking for any little edge that might enhance performance. Drivers push the limits...pit road speed, passing, pushing the "edge"! But Roger Penske is a class act in the sport and out of the sport (business). He's the "old school" when it comes to winning...we won because we worked hard, designed hard, practiced hard, raced hard and celebrated hard! He's won a lot!!!!!!
Penske did seem to mind the ignoring the rules when he ran his Sunoco Trans-Am Camaro team in 67 & 68 - you’ll have to look that up on CZcams. I guess if heads have to roll, they should be a few rungs “down” the corporate ladder.
They made a mistake sure nobody in management knew it was left active besides people in Newgarden garage...

Hes just doing it to save face. I know you dont think the man would do that but only a few suspensions, Really if you did regret it everyone would be fired. If You would break the rules anywhere and the boss not really know would you just get a slap on the wrist. Its a joke he knew they where doing it and its only cheating if you get caught, and he got caught.

Years ago, I read either Mark Donahue's biography or Penski's and I distinctly remember a chapter with both of them joking about acid dipping the outer skin of their Camero and having to divert the TransAm insectors from getting even close to the car. Something about not putting a beer bottle on the roof for fear of it leaving a dent.....THEY ALL try to cheat, it's part of the game.....if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'. I think ol' Rog is being a little hypocritical.....
I don’t buy it. As Michael Andretti pointed out on your show, if his Indycar manager was caught cheating and he didn’t know about it, he would fire the person.

Penske's teams have been so good over his entire career that he doesn't need to cheat. He's smart enough to know the rules, and know the gray areas and know what they can and can't do within the confines of the rules.

The driver should have been suspended to he is as guilty as everyone else. 10 to 1 Tim Cindric will be calling the shots by phone. Don’t trust Penske right now. This is a big black eye on the Indy series. What other shenanigans Penske is pulling over peoples eyes. I hope Honda pulls out now after 2026. Honda supply’s over half the engines for Indy car now. That means Indy car will be done Chevy can’t afford to support Indy series.
Penske also cheated in the late '60's T/A series with the Z/28 Chevturds.

I've admired Mr. Penske since I met him as a karting kid back in the 90's. Paul Tracy showed up at my karting track with a full on Penske karting rig with engineers. They run an impressive operation from top to bottom. Drove my fair share of rented Penske trucks over the years too.
