I was there in 1977 ! The concert was delayed because of Ritchie (trouble with the police,as always)! Suddenly there was the child voice of Judy Garland talking about a rainbow rainbow rainbow.....BAAAM !!! INFERNO!!! Out of fuckin nowhere 'Rainbow' was there ...including Ritchie completely under fire !! They started with something that I couldn't reconize because Iwas frightened to death !! The volume was the blast of hell !! The fans went mad . It was 'Kill the king' ! And it was absolutely magic. I was 16 and I know I'll never forget !

Of course Ronnie James Dio's voice and lyrics are perfect in this song. But Richie Blackmore's guitar solo in this song is the greatest I've ever heard. It's not just fast shredding, it is haunting and mystical, cuts to your very soul.

I say it a lot and usually get shit for it, but those 3 Dio Rainbow albums are better than anything Blackmore did for Purple, or Dio would do for Sabbath or Dio... As much as I love Purple, Sabbath and Dio. Ronnie and Ritchie together was just magical. Dio's lyrics and voice just matched Blackmore's old world/baroque/classical tinged songwriting better.
I saw them right after Dio left. Powell was out and Paice was drumming ,Glover was on bass, and Graham Bonnet was vocals. Concert sucked. I wanted original rainbow

Dio just speaks for himself but everything about Blackmore's playing on this track just melts my brain. This combo though is peak metal. Nothing beats this.

Carey on the intro keyboards is just amazing. Blackmore always played with some greats, Don Airey, {who went to Ozzy} Tony Carey, not to mention John lord, then add all the other great musicians and you got some of the greatest talent ever to have played with in rock... Legend!

I got to see them at Royal Oak music theater back in 78'. Caught the neck of Ritchies' broken neck, my buddy got to shake Ronnie's hand. I missed seeing Toney play as they had replaced him for Long Live, Rock n Roll. I was 15 years old, this was an incredible day, got to see Cozy drum. Amazing. Nobody wanted them to stop playing. Remember hearing Ritchie jamming on his own before the crowd came in.Couldnt wait to get to our seat. About 40 years ago, still feels like it happened yesterday. Went home and tried jamming the tunes on my Hammond M3 like Toney did on the On Stage album. Turned up my stereo full blast so I could re-experience the concert. What a memory!

Had the great pleasure of seeing this lineup play this song as a 16yo in late November 1976 in Adelaide on the Australian leg of their world tour. Was my first international band rocket concert. It left a lasting impression on me as they were the best live rock band in the world at the time. I can 'see' those 2 magnificent backdrops & the moving rainbow. It was stunning!
My brother and I were at that concert, Festival Centre. Best venue in Adelaide. Awesome sound, spectacular show with that Rainbow. Will never forget Cozy's 1812 drum solo. Just astonishing. What a superb group of musicians!!!!!
I have enjoyed this Concert on the 27.9.1976 in Düsseldorf/Phillipshalle. A friend of mine take a record on a SABA cassette recorder- but this here is much better from the quality! Thanks for this! Generaly Ritchi play Stargazer not often in this Concert Tour. And Ronnie James Dio(RIP) was a Lyrical Highlight! And we will also Remember Craig Gruber(Bass on the 1. Album- Rainbow) who dies of cancer aged 63 in April 2015. The Line up of this tour was: Ronnie James Dio> Vocals Tony Carey > Keyboard Cozy Powell > Drums (RIP) Jimmy Bain > Baß Ritchie Blackmore > Guitarre The best deal was Cozy at this time. His Solo Projekts flopps- and he need a new job. Now the man in Black circeld the rules of Membershipping. I`ver saw Concerts in Colonge 1978 , but this doesn't mach this Concert in Düsseldorf.
Sting (police) played in Argentina in the 80s, The military Junta was still ruling and you probably know Sting always was very involved with human rights, so probably Rainbown did not play due another reason

I met Ronnie JamesDio. I was a big fan. I had seen Rainbow, at the Rainbow, Findsbury Park. Ritchie Blackmore, probs the fastest and best guitarists after Michael. Cook (I.Q.), did a 3 minute encore strop, moody fuck, dissing his band, I was backstage, at Wembley, with Iron Maiden. They recorded daughter to the slaughter,.after the gig, was in the dressing room with Dave and Adrian, VIP passes so security very polite and access all areas, in walks a very big man, turfs us out, VIP, what? Oh, of course, five foot Ronnie and two six foot bouncers minced in, flipping Diva,. Great vocalist. He helped to revive Sabbath. God bless you RJD but.
I saw Ronnie in sacred heart tour and omg he was fabulous one of the best concerts ever now in Rainbow with my favorite guitar player in the world ever would have been spectacular! Miss you Ronnie you made me happy with your mystical presence!! R.I.P

Sting (police) played in Argentina in the 80s, The military Junta was still ruling and you probably know Sting always was very involved with human rights, so probably Rainbown did not play due another reason
Yep, and there was also a Queen concert in Argentina, they even mentioned the regime in their documentary, with the soldiers walking around, many of them on the stadium, too.

I'm sure they tweaked this song multiple times live, but this is pretty damn good. Sounds like it's in a different key. The haunting backing on the solo is great too. And considering this is not even a polished, top-notch recording, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thx for posting.

I met Ronnie JamesDio. I was a big fan. I had seen Rainbow, at the Rainbow, Findsbury Park. Ritchie Blackmore, probs the fastest and best guitarists after Michael. Cook (I.Q.), did a 3 minute encore strop, moody fuck, dissing his band, I was backstage, at Wembley, with Iron Maiden. They recorded daughter to the slaughter,.after the gig, was in the dressing room with Dave and Adrian, VIP passes so security very polite and access all areas, in walks a very big man, turfs us out, VIP, what? Oh, of course, five foot Ronnie and two six foot bouncers minced in, flipping Diva,. Great vocalist. He helped to revive Sabbath. God bless you RJD but.

I saw Ronnie in sacred heart tour and omg he was fabulous one of the best concerts ever now in Rainbow with my favorite guitar player in the world ever would have been spectacular! Miss you Ronnie you made me happy with your mystical presence!! R.I.P
