My general guess is it'll kick off their new album, or at least be close to the start, perhaps we'll even get a longer album than a standard 40ish minute project, but my main guess is that it'll be closer to the beginning. When I first learned of Defeat I figured it'd be a standalone EP, but with how they've been talking about a new album that they've been sitting on, I feel like the 2nd half of the album will be almost a counterpoint or contrast to Defeat's side (if it ends up being structured like that). Can't wait to hear it and the rest of the new material either way, and I'm excited to hear the studio version of Mystical too, whenever that comes out. Man, an Animal Collective double LP would be great. Beach House did a great one recently with Once Twice Melody.

@@26willyvan That's not true at all. They have already recorded all of these songs in a studio with the producer engineer from a lot of the Soulquarians stuff. We're just waiting for its release

Although I found it amusing at first, the texture actually added to the song for me, especially with the string texture immediately after, and the "t" sound getting resampled (or at least a sample similar to it playing). I always love the way they use samples and textures in combination with synths and voice.
For anyone wondering. This single (21 mins) is getting its own 12” vinyl release. I’m pretty sure it’s limited release and drops soon in mid September. Purchased right when it was announced from their bandcamp
@@boss1tweed I think the "cringe" some might feel is potentially just them feeling something unfamiliar (or perhaps even *too* familiar) and instantly dismissing it, almost looking down on themselves for it. At least, this is where I used to be mentally. Feeling can be a strange thing, and especially seem so from a modern cultural lens/standpoint, but I think it's healthy and even important to embrace it as it's so core to what makes us human. This is one of the reasons why I love Animal Collective so much; their music almost forces you to face these parts of yourself, and I always feel better at the end for it.

He's on drums and doing vocals; drummers tend not to move around much, at least at the concerts I've seen. They tend to kind of have their stool planted in one spot, and that's about it.

I forget which part it is exactly, probably the 3rd part, but it's in there. Anyway, generally speaking, this is something I'd personally kind of expect from a more meditative song like Defeat, maybe aside from part 2 if anything. *Update/Edit:* Noah does vocals through the whole thing, and drums through pretty much the whole thing as well. I needed to watch it a second time, but yeah, no, Mr. Panda's definitely just as present in this song as the other guys.

Ugghhh....why did they drag defeat out to 20 minutes?? It draaaags. It was way better at Music Box when it was only 15 minutes. I hate when this band sits on songs too long before recording them; such songs almost always become compromised

I love slowly unfurling music, like ambient for example, but this is too often just bad. It was a masterpiece
