its sad they've never really made another record like prospect hummer or campfire songs. I was probably 15 when I discovered those albums and I get the sense that they've moved on. To me, a 15 and depressed weirdo, it was nice hearing music that sounded like someone had been through what I was feeling. Someone had experienced the same things I was and figured a way out. Its been 10 years since I first heard ANCO and I don't feel as hopeful as I did then, life has lost some of the magic, but Im grateful for these recordings and want to make something that can help a kid as much as they helped me.
Never say never I guess. One of the many things that makes AnCo so damned awesome is how they change course with each succeeding album. For example, Tangerine Reef is a stark contrast to anything on Painting With... The Crestone OST coming up might potentially hark back to their acoustic era in places. Who knows?

Confounding their audience is what blows everyone's mind about them and keeps their music so fresh on every release. And yeah, I absolutely loved Sung Tongs. It's still my favorite AnCo record. But it's a complete, idiosyncratic, finished idea that lives in its own world. Why try to duplicate it, or capitalize on its success? It was perfect. Now on to the next thing. The reason they are my favorite band is because they sound like a different band on every album, yet still somehow stay perfectly true to themselves every time.

god, this is the sound of high school. getting drunk in the backyard when everyone's asleep and falling asleep swearing you'd never drink again, rocking around trying not to throw up. smoking weed only with your closest friends, talking about past times, thinking about what's to come but being too afraid to talk about it because you know it ultimately ends with slowly losing touch and never seeing each other again. this song is like standing on the precipice of your future and knowing what's to come and also like standing at the bottom of everything and wishing you could jump back up.
