2 steel cents came into my hands with the last number missing on the date, 194-. They were among a small batch of steel cents in a large coin collection I bought from an 80 year old woman. Any suggestions about this oddity.? Thanks for reply.
Yes sir! this oddity is caused when the coin is struck thru a glob of grease, Towards the end of the life of the "coin dies" they started having much WEAKER strikes due to making MILLIONS of steel pennies with the same die. So its a combination of a worn out die and striking a coin thru grease in other words, Also steel is much harder than copper so thats why these coins tend to be missing details, have die cracks, cuds, machine doubling, hub doubling etc etc.. Imagine trying to punch details into copper by hand and steel by hand (without heating up the coin) which would hold details better? ⚡ I hope this is useful! and have a great day! Happy coin hunting!

Why weren’t you kind to mentioned the steel 1944 penny will actually stick to a magnet. That would be a motivation for people to start their search. Therefore, it will be the real deal. If it does not stick to a magnet, then they have nothing.
As I think back to the coins I've came across and spent, I'm kicking myself on the butt🤣 I had no idea collecting and selling coins was a real thing. I rolled up about 3 dollars worth of Indian head pennies back in 2002 along with quarter's dimes and nickles which added up to over a thousand bucks and spent it all smh. I wish I knew then what I know now.
I have a set of 1943 pennies in a blue hard case they are the shiny ones from each mint from the Philadelphia from the San Francisco And the Delaware what could they be worth they are in the blue cardboard in a hard plastic case then I have a set of steel sets from 1943 they are in white cardboard and white cardboard and they are all from the Philadelphia mint Please comment back thank you so very much for this video hope to hear from you

No you shouldn’t clean them. That will actually depreciate it. I’m not sure how they know if you cleaned it or not but they do.
