- Sweden Welcomes two US B-1B Lancer strategic bombers to Luleå-Kallax Air Base, the main base of the Swedish Norrbotten Wing (F 21).
This is only the second time ever that United States Air Force strategic bombers have landed in Sweden.
The first time was only last year in June 2023.
The two B-1B Lancers will work closely with the Swedish Air Force JAS-39C Gripen fighters, and will conduct a series of excercises as Bomber Task Force 24-2.Great footage of B-1B Lancers and the Swedish Air Force JAS-39C Gripen.

The US and Sweden had already signed a defense treaty before it's NATO admission allowing US bombers access to the country. NATO membership means Sweden can fully integrate it's command
structure into the alliance and share intelligence.

Norwegian F-35s were also in Sweden for the first time in October 2023. Will be interesting to see what decision Sweden makes to replace the Gripen - either “build a system, develop a system with someone, or… acquire a system”. Decision to be made 2031.

Likely AI “piloted” fighter jets will be a thing then. And they will have to deal with the types of anti-drone technology we now see emerging. So the aircrafts will be quite different and also designed using AI to a much larger extent than what is available today. Supporting man-piloted jets will then be much the same airframes as today, somewhat updated with new technology. Some have speculated that the B-1s will be used as “command centers” for hives of AI fighter jets… some carried along in the bomb bays.
@@abrakkehakka1357 Actually this is the process being used for NGAD in the USA, which will fly with Wingman AI drones, as the F-35 will. The US military does not want to give AI full autonomy in attack aircraft (yet). The B-21 Spirit is actually such a "command center", as the F-35 will be after upgrades.
