Sam is a very impressive person.... she sees things so clearly and that's what screws her.... this world is so broken.... I watched this interview three times, it helps me keep on fighting in a world where some people are massively disadvantaged just because of what they've been through as a child.
I hope Sam sees this! You should serve on a committee to help you and others. You have some great ideas to help! I would like to see a pilot program that shows success of 75%. She can be a great advocate and teacher to others. I agree that cost of living is unbelievable.
Good Evening Jose, your interviews with the homeless is truly a public service that provides knowledge and awareness of this growing epidemic. ItIs not an easy fix to address the multitude of problems these folks face. However, mental illness is in the forefront. Addiction robs folks of ambition. The homeless issue needs to be brought up by local government in a manner that gets to the root versus shuffling these people from point to point b. God Bless and stay safe... you know what to watch out for.
What a beautiful soul she is... She helps others even though she needs help... Imagine what a difference she could make given all the therapy and resources she needs and deserves.... I would love to help her... Wish I knew how to reach out to her....

This was an interesting interview Jose, this girl seems intelligent and could be doing so much better for herself. She is attractive and communicates well, it's a shame she is not able to get her life in order to be safely off the street, I don't think she wants that badly enough right now but perhaps in times to come she will. It is true that so many addicts are dealing with severe mental issues due to childhood abuse and having never had any of that addressed or treated, it creates a vortex of downward spiraling where they find solace in drugs. Because they cannot find anything else to even get some relief the drugs seems like the "best " option. Thanks for this interview very nicely done and presented.
Great interview! I’ve been on the MAT program which is suboxone with counseling and it’s done well for me but I am afraid to try and get off of it at the same time. It’s a struggle to be an addict! Thank god I’m not homeless. God bless all of the homeless people ❤

Its unfortunate for those of us who have fell into the lie and trap of believing we can fix others and that its even our responsibility to. The bible tells us we who believe are complete in christ and bad company corrupts good character. Disobedience and being unequally yoked will bring a lot of trouble. We all are imperfect, sinful, made wrong choices, and we all need Jesus! Pray for this woman. Pray for her healing, deliverance, and breakthrough.

Is there a solution to homelessness??? I've never heard any ideas except for small houses....I think nothing can be done until we tax the rich and they will fight tooth and nail to prevent that!! It's all heart breaking. Now in my hometown (29,000 population) we have a community under the RR bridge on Main St.
$13 an hour wasn't worth it. I'm a retired EMT. Her comment offends me. I only quit working because my spine is deteriorating. My endinng pay was $8/hr. You don't choose EMS for the $. You do it to save lives. Her reason for quitting is an excuse. I've never made $38K at one job in my life. I was a phlebotomist @ $10/hr. An honest living as opposed to being addicted to drugs on the streets. I choose honest living. I'm disabled & can't work. I get about $500/month! I'm not homeless & I'm not addicted to any substances. I serve Jesus Christ, who sustains my every need. And yes. I know what addiction feels like. My doc overloaded me on Rx meds one year until i was oblivious of life around me. I came seconds from dying from an O.D. I ditched thoae meds. I'm a lot better off without them. I deal with extreme pain every day, but my head is clear & I'm living a good life.
I encourage people find a career they would love and then you never work a day in your life. Everyone has freedom of choice: Sobriety, housing, work, gratitude,etc. Create a strong society by being responsible.

When I moved to Florida in 1987, I made $240 a week before taxes. Rent for a 1 bedroom at that time was $450, not including utilities, gas, car insurance, food, etc. Things are no different now from then, except that the dollar amounts are higher now. You find a way to make things work without making excuses about it.
Being homeless is not a job. She said if you cant change direction.... the only people who cant change direction are those that dont want to change direction. My Mom told me that Cant never did a damn thing. We need mental institutions badly.

Most of the homeless that are strung out on drugs actually like the drugs more then to go to anyplace to help them get clean from the drugs, it doesn't matter how much you might want to get them to rehab, it wont make them change their mind. Unfortunately..😢

Very interesting. I worked with a MD as a nurse years ago and I remember he once said about people who smoke cigarettes "They're just stupid". I was a smoker at the time, and it really made me want to quit.
Especially when you’re not working and abusing substances. It takes strength and discipline to succeed regardless of your place in this world. You can make excuses or You can make an effort!
I’ve always believed all addiction is the same with the “drug” of choice being diff. Some more physically/mentally addicting. Some way more damaging but still a slave to, regardless. Stopping Coke abruptly (the drink) made my husband so sick he required medical care. Crazy huh?

What's not lost on me is when she said she became homeless when she stopped working. Well, that's the difference between her and people living paycheck to paycheck. She said she won't work for only $13.50/hr or $37K/year. As she said, that is a choice.
Money is not the root of all evil... But it certainly can be... It's what you make it... It would be easyer if people could realize that no man owes you a living.
That’s where US policy has failed. Psychology 101. If your basics needs are not being met more often than not; you are just in survival mode, not in a thriving mode. The US needs to look at policies from The Netherlands, Portugal and Germany. Their system has had a positive effect on their resolution for helping those with addiction. Some states only implemented the legalization of drugs but that did not resolve the basics needs and mental health issues. It only exacerbated the use of drugs to the addict. Follow the money and the gravesites of way too many of our younger generation that have been are being murdered from greed and lack of programs to pull themselves out of a terrible lot in life.
She said she became homeless because her parents sold her house. So she wasn't even supporting herself as an adult? She seems like a nice person and all, but she takes no responsibility for her own situation. She clearly stated that she chooses to be homeless rather than work, but then says that other people should be providing resources the homeless. Those other people would be the ones who work to support themselves.
So she decided to become homeless because she doesn’t want to work… she deserves no help if you choose to not work… it’s not the population’s responsibility to support your life it up to you to survive…

I make a lot of money as a medic. So idk when she retired but it's good money especially with the OT. EMTs get paid at least $16-$18 in Louisiana.
