    Thanks for the video, just confirmed to me as a lone 70 year old traveller to stick to the uk, I could not possibly cope with the confusing directions given to just get on a train.

      The thing I like about the tunnel is that you can chill out in your caravan/motorhome during the crossing, and not having to go up to the decks for the crossing. Calais terminal became more confusing when passport control etc moved in front of the waiting area. (Probably to do with the migrant problems)

    Interesting that your costs were similar to ours. Remembering you had a couple of extra stops before and after Folkestone and we had a few extra days in Europe and an extra dog, it’s not surprising we had similar costs. Fantastic tour, we loved it and really enjoyed your company. Thanks again and see you soon 👍🏻🚐🚐💙 Trev n Sue xx

    Nothing changes, we were coming back from Oustrenham. Before Covid by the way and we were still in the EU. Our MH was searched twice, had our docents double checked and went through both sets of customs. We hadn't complicated the situation by carrying a pet however.

    I love the tunnel. Always manage to feel like a criminal coming back though. Even seemed to fail the relatively innocuous question of "Where have you come from?" at UK passport control. His face fell when I looked to my husband for the name of the French town we'd spent the day in before returning for the tunnel. Clearly he had a screen full of numberplate captures from the Netherlands to Copenhagen. I reanswered with our major destinations and he was much more jovial! Won't make it that mistake at 5am again!

    What a palaver at the tunnel, think I shall stick with the ferries. The roads between Ypres and Calais have been improved a lot over the years. Used to be fun pre A16 and satnav finding your way out of Calais. Love Ypres as a city, was involved in the 75th anniversary of the Menin Gate a few years back . With the Menin gate, Tyne Cot cemetery and the Thiepval memorial on the Somme, and the hundreds of other cemeteries, brings home the futility of the 14/18 war.

    Hi Bob / Jenny and Poppy!! Are you able to make your European checklist available.
    I’m just planning to take my van and cat abroad to Belgium for the first time in July. It would would really help if I could look at your checklist.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Sorry, it's not a check list as such, it's a customised database with assigned tasks. I believe @wanderingbird has a European checklist you can download.

  • @MotoGoYo

    Great that you include the costs at the end. Motor-homing is getting a bit expensive these days. When I've travelled down through France to Spain (last time back in 2006 I think) I remember the tolls being a hefty part of the costs. You do seem very organised which I think you have to be for what now seems like more of a military exercise and many steps. Safe travels.

    O my goodness what a palaver getting on at the French side ! From what I can remember it wasn't that difficult when we first went via the tunnel. We don't take our dogs away on our main holiday so always use the Ferry to St Malo which is a lot less stressful than trying to navigate around all those silly bollards with a caravan and only having to go through 2 checkpoints at Portsmouth and visa versa so I think we will stick to Ferry crossings with Brittany Ferries. I know its much quicker via the tunnel depending on where you are headed but we like to make the crossing part of our holiday. Think the French like to make it hard for Motorhomes and Caravans as coming back one year via St Malo our friends were directed through a gate that didn't give you much room to get through and swing round and unfortunately he caught the back of his van and had to have a minor repair done to it.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes a lot has changed since we went in 2018. I suppose the cones are only if you have dogs with you and hopefully things will improve once they've built the new buildings.

    Thank you I enjoyed the video. Its a merry go round at the Tunnel to board but I think it looks worse on camera than in the Van. I like how you chat/combine navigation as it can be stressful. We do the same and its always useful especially navigating junctions. It looks as though they have moved the Pet reception area from when we visited in August. It is an easy process but only when you know how. I , would love to listen how pack the van, what you take with you, how you plan journeys and useful ideas. ie your cup holder was an idea adopted. Merry Xmas if you dont post again before the festive period,

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před 8 měsíci +1

      It was certainly more complicated to get back into England than when we boarded for France. We did do a video a couple of years on planning tours:

      I post videos three times, a week normally, so I suspect there may be a few before Xmas yet!

    We are going to France via la shuttle for the first time in September. One question we have is is it ok to take food supplies into France in the motorhome as we know taking dairy products for example are not allowed from the uk into europe when you fly. Thanks for any help.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před měsícem

      No, you're not allowed to take meat and dairy products into France. We weren't checked, which does not mean you won't be checked. See food.ec.europa.eu/animals/animal-products-movements/personal-imports_en
