Strange.If these were man-made by using primitive tools,these long basalt logs or stones don't add up.If I were to be asked to make these logs for a fort or whatever,I wouldn't give myself extra work and create blocks with 6 edges or sides but I would keep it simple and use 4 edges. To hammer/chisel and then sand those extra edges for no reason doesn't make sense,unless no hammer/chisel or sanding ever took place. The builders at this site had the tools but lacked the arch. know-how to build.
