    I need help wiring a Chinese 5 wire ac cdi to my bike. The colors are red, blue, yellow, black and green. The coil has a 2color coded prongs coming out of it. A green and a black comeo out of the coil. I know with most Chinese the green is ground. So my question is do I run the green to my magneto and the coil? I'm assuming that the black will go to the coil since it's color coded. The red to the red from my magneto. But then that leaves my a loose blue and yellow

    • @wtmotobikes8838
      @wtmotobikes8838  Před 4 lety

      GuitarJoe I would recommend trying to find the original equipment for the bike. If it is a 4 stroke engine then it’s a completely different ignition system. If it’s a newer style two stroke then it’s going to need a cdi unit that has a built in trigger wire in the cdi. These CDI’s for motorized bicycles do not use a trigger. The rotor that turns between the magneto is what created the charge that goes to the coil.

    Good video, very informative. Thanks. What's your opinion on "boost bottles"? I have seen pro and con for them, but every pro video actually shows the bottle in action. Thunderhead 289 actually pinches off the tube to show the difference, and it made the motor run smoother with the bottle active. In most cases it seems to produce a smoother sounding motor and the claim is for more power at some point in the power band. The nay sayers so far have not done anything demonstrative to prove their point, so I'm of the opinion that they work. Also, do you think that an expansion chamber exhaust requires re-jetting, or maybe adjusting the clip on the needle? I bought the F2 Thrust pipe from bikeberry and it was causing the motor to four stroke when coming off the throttle at speed. I raised the clip one notch, and it quieted it right down. Much smoother now.

    • @wtmotobikes8838
      @wtmotobikes8838  Před 4 lety

      Hey Eric, from the research Iv done into understanding a boost bottle and other forms or volume intake type things. In most cases they are on 4 strokes and have a resonance effect that helps the low end torque of the said engine. you wouldn't believe it but if you pop the hood on a new 2000+s Honda car and look at the intake you will see a large style box with a auxilary box for just extra volume. that is a form of boost bottle that I'm referring to in a 4 stroke. For a two stroke the only engine that I can think of that uses anything Like a boost bottle is the yamaha banshee with the twin carb setup and the balance tube that goes between both carbs. other than that I havent seen it in use in any other production motorcycles. For our engines though I would highly doubt it gives you any kind of gains at all other than a place to catch a air leak and end up destroying your engine from running lean.
      I re jet my engine if it even feels colder outside. jetting changes with the weather. pressure can even change your jetting. That pipe your talking about is a real choked off pipe and so it loads the engine up a bit, thats why it four strokes. Hope these help man.

    • @ericellquist7007
      @ericellquist7007 Před 4 lety

      @@wtmotobikes8838 Thanks for your response, I'm kind of new to the two cycle ICE. The way that I had envisioned the boost bottle was as a sort of cushion. The air flow entering the motor at idle and at speed, has mass and inertia. The cycle pulsations of the combustion/exhaust/intake process interrupt the constant flow of the air/fuel mixture. The bottle relieves the momentary back pressure of the flow when the cycle pulses occur, instead of it pulsing back into the venturi and disturbing the mixing event. That's the only idea that makes any sense to me. Sort of like an expansion chamber on the intake side. My other issue was that the motor does not come with any kind of owner/instruction manual. You buy a motorcycle, it tells you what kind of spark plug, and the proper gap. I have seen two videos on this matter. The first recommends .025" gap; the second video recommends .035. There has to be a way to find which gap between those two extremes works best. A sort of rule of thumb, as we used to say. If this, than do that...

    • @ericellquist7007
      @ericellquist7007 Před 4 lety +1

      @the guy nobody likes I did, couldn't get the motor to idle. Took it off. It was a CDH Power product, had a bottle made out of a used CO2 cartridge. Not even close to 66cc displacement. They call it a "Function Bottle". I suspect that it's supposed to be replaced with an NO2 setup. No idea, checked it for leaks, there weren't any. I have a bottle I've adapted for use that is a lot closer to 66cc's I'm going to try that once the hideous weather here moderates somewhat. Rain, hail, snow, windy as hell; cold as a nun's bun. And that was just today!

I Have recently brought a pw80 CDI and a stand alone coil, also for a pw80, I have 2 separate black wires so one's gonna be a ground connected to the magneto loop set and the other black will connect to the terminal on the coil. connect orange to the other terminal which is posistive. but I'm getting nothing at all.. I also have a red and white wire that I'm not sure what that does.. but both brand new today and wired as you did in your video and nothing is happening . No spark whatsoever.. I'm confused. It starting to do my head in, I've walked away from it for a while but found myself re watching this video again to double check.. and confirmed I did everything the same.. what could it be . And what does that red and white wire do. The 2 blacks for the killswitch have a plug on I presume they do not need to be grounded out or anything ? Oh my days .. help it's driving me crazy here.. :/ Cheers Sy
