shame popcap has gone full mobile developer these days. miss when i'd pay for a dlc as icing on top of a cake instead of microtransactions as a spoon of sugar in a cuppa coffee like ones a big complete desert you indulge in and the other is to make a bitter drink tolerable to get yourself through the day. don't help most mobile games will notify you every day for that daily bonus to keep you coming back. one and done purchases have always been great and i hope more companys take the baulders gate and elden ring approach to game monotisation.
To be fair, PvZ2 (2014-2016) wasn't that bad in monetization. They only things they had were ads (which I use an adblocker to get by them), and premium plants, upgrades, and buying currency which were all optional as you can beat the game without spending money. I heard somewhere that microtransactions are supposed to keep you playing, but not let you skip the grind and make the game easier for you. And premium plants probably serve that purpose pretty well. Not to mention, worlds acted as free dlc, and old PvZ2 doesn't notify you of a daily bonus in order for you to keep playing.
I personally think pvz3 was made for much younger people,like 6 year olds because the art style,the gameplay and some other stuff really says "you are to old to play this game"
Yeah much like BFN it’s way too cartoony but unlike pvz2 it doesn’t really look like the original so it alienates a lot of the fan base, I like it but it’s way too out of proportion.
I don t get like because game has other art style doesn t mean its for kids like 8-bit games aren t classified as for Old People thats Just an art style like tutorials make it more kids focused but not art style like mario Wonder no one says its only for kids even tho it is older People still enjoy it and don t complain because it looks good

Something that I noticed was that the designs where more and more cartoony over time. This not have to be a bad thing, but really removes the PvZ feeling of "you are fighting (un)dead people after all", which is a shame, honestly. I also have mixed feelings with the music, like the levels I feel like It should be longer than It is.
That game survey killed me. Seriously, why would we want to tell them what decor we want to have. We just wanted to have additions, changes, or fixes to major gameplay mechanics. You can save that when you have the gameplay settled.

Honestly I actually want to return to the old 2020 soft launch now, it looks and is so much better then the new version in almost every way. As Danerade said in an annotation in his pvz3 video, the art style took time getting used to. I feel like if they modeled the 3D better, brought back sunflower and the other good changes from the newer version, we would’ve been satisfied. Remaking the whole game was not a good idea, and it shows that they don’t know what they’re doing. I hope they will make a better game in the next beta, I honestly can excuse bad gameplay and music as long I can see an idea there, but it feels like they’re making it worse even when they clearly can listen to us. Atleast the music has always been good.
@@mr.productions327 well the community’s issue was the 3D art style, it looked too ugly. They could’ve reworked that style and made it look better, rather than redo the entire game. I like the new art style, but in almost every other regard they’ve made the game worse.

Phone was vertical, sunflowers were gone, there was a energy system and a live system in the devour tower, there were 5 leveling systems, they brought back the worst things for PvZ2 into PvZ3. But I think the biggest problem with the game was how grindy it was according to some. At a certain point in the devour tower, the zombies become too strong to the point where you have to grind outside the devour tower in order to level up your plants in order for you to have a chance. Doesn't help that bringing back the worst thing about PvZ2 wasn't a good idea. If the game came out, I guarantee it would be hated on still.

i’ve been dedicated to this franchise for over 12 years now, thats over 3/4ths of my life at this point. i have had good things to say about every entry in the series… and PvZ3 is the one exception, seriously making me consider jumping ship.
Having a 3D artstyle definitely isn't the problem... games like Bloons TD transitioned perfectly between 5/MCity and the latest, 3D re-designed game in the series.
Why can't they just pool all their resources into making pvz2 the best game it can possibly be? Tf2 has been out for 15 years and still holds up to this day.
Team Fortress II also has a lot of community features, custom servers, is a PvP game primarily, and has been completely abandoned by Valve for an excessively long time (I don't play the game, this is what I know/think I know). Based on what I've seen, multiplayer games (especially PvP) tend to last FAR longer than singleplayer-exclusive. This is just what I've seen, and I know there's exceptions.
There’s honestly no reason not to play PvZ 1 & 2 over this, everything even down to the art style seems like a complete downgrade with the added kick in the gut of a life system and other terrible mechanics, although it still might bring them a crap ton of money anyways
I tried PVZ2 for the first time last month, and going back to PVZ1 the only thing I really missed was the speed-up button. Not that stuff like plant food isn't cool.
Ironicly its a bit weird saying its all about the money, Because in PvZ Heroes people like to get everything cards or try decks and the comunity till this day is surprisinly still kicking even do its considered an abandoned game (Wont recive updates but will still stay for the fans who keeps playing it). Many people dont enjoy the game and its fair, But like they could have still earned more money by continuing that game but they dint, Making me think they just trying to see if they can find bigger fish to catch or they end up getting sardines.

Simple ingredients for success - $15 price tag, no ads or microtransactions - Adventure mode with new world themes and unique mechanics that limit what plants you'll use - That's really all I want They could even do a battle mode, an online RTS mode where one player controls the zombies; or a competitive mode where the zombies come faster and faster until one of you loses

Take what made pvz1 and pvz2 great. Remove what made them bad, and boom pvz3 simple. In actuality its extremely difficult to fine tune a game like the pvz franchise. My idea really stems from pvz1 was a solid game that you had to pay for for the full experience but eventually gets stale. Pvz2 is too unique while also trying to be pay to win, making most the free plants suffer massive power creep and scale struggling to even beat what world you acquired the new plants from. But its actually impossible because the mobile free to play format works way to well to not stray away from
Pvz1 was the beginning, then Pvz2 went to time travel! Then Pvz3 went to something basic similar to the original. Do pvz in space, or pvz across the globe.
This is what PvZ 3 was meant, across the globe, unfortunately the combination of negative comments from the community and PopCap's idea to "solve" this situation end up causing PvZ "3" as a Gardenscape ripoff trainwreck.
Ok so here is what they need to do: 1. Start with a story instead of gameplay the last game used time travel as it's basis so why not make the story about the result of this time travel adventure perhaps replace Penny with Patricia so she has a reason to be there 2. Make an actually good game based off that I mean we basically get teleported to some volcano level in PVZ 3 go from point A to B in a proper way

I don't see why they don't just add more worlds to pvz2 given that its till a really popular game. They don't need to make a sequel when they already have a perfectly fine game

They could just make a real game. Like a real proper PC game. That launches with full content. All the plants. All the zombies. All the levels/worlds/whatever they wanna call em this time. Then they could even add in more plants post launch as DLC. More zombies as DLC. More levels as DLC. Rather than making it a stupid mobile freemium thing. Again. Would probably work better for them.
i think a really good idea would be to not make pvz3 but to make pvz2..2 pvz2 2, expanding on the whole time travel thing, there's still a metric fuck ton of possible worlds, and of course, a lot of issues with pvz2 that needed fixing (like how almost all the gargs were the same)
Although this is what PopCap planned during PvZ 3 Alpha where there were new locations with gimmicks plus variety of Zombies with abilities including Gargantuars (like The King of The Grill was a Fast Food Location Gargantuar who flip Plants to the back and multiply Sausage Imps and upcoming but end up scrapped (by Beta "Update") Gargantuar such as Camo Gargantuar implying to be owns an stealth ability where Plants doesn't noticed it until he's attacking plants and Unicorn Gargantuar who was a mini-boss edition of Rainbow Glitter Zombie but slower). Sadly after the negative feedbacks and PopCap "solved" the problem, it end up becoming a Gardenscape clone trainwreck.
Things PvZ3 needs: bring the old sun system back the levels should not be tutorials bring back choose your seeds add the lawnmower and explode-o-nut rewarded ad bring back graves and lobbers
Maybe make it so Jalapeno Cherry Bomb etc arent Power ups because that makes me want to never use thrm(feels like cheating) so essentially they wasted 3 perfect plants for the sake of ads or money

Just saying, the 2016 concept would've been great. The plant's designs are also beautiful, with the pea shooter resembling a mix between one & two, being less compressed than 2's design.
I think it's safe to say that the relationship between pvz and the chinese audience is pretty damn toxic for the franchise as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if pvz 3 it's trying to appeal to both chinese and international audience. That's probably the reason pvz 3 it's the way it is.
What really disappointed me is that pvz 3 story feels more like a prequel to pvz1, I mean cmon, pvz 2 was fucking time travel. My opinion is that they should keep the core mechanics of pvz 1 and 2 but parallel universes perhaps?
I think it would have worked if it was different art style (I don't minde 3D but it definitely need remodel to most characters) and make the screen horizontal instead just like pvz2😊

Demands for EA and the pvz3 team: They dont just reuse the same plant over and over and over again. They make a hard route and easy route so that experienced players have fun. They make the levels longer but not THAT long. They put an actual zomboss fight at the end.

It would be so cool to see a game with new plants, new and cool game style, new strategies, new zombies, new functions that are actually new(that's why I think pvz2 got so famous). And some stuff that would surprise us, like a huge update announcement that makes everyone excited for, just like when pvzgw2 opened the main room thing for the first time which included the gnome portal keys and rainbow stars. they could've done so much, but they didn't, the design is weird, the mechanics aren't good, there's nothing new in a good way nothing that made us excited..

This video is amazing and a great commentary. You basically picked every problem out and managed to help me and the hopefully the rest of the community a couple of things we didn’t beforehand. “Innovating for the sake of innovating” is not an expression I like, but it’s one that unfortunate represents the series in a way. I loved BFN, a lot more than GW2 even, but the community wanted GW3, and they didn’t get it. I just want this game to bring back the franchise, and stop trying to be something it isn’t. Legit i could see everything working. All i want is a return to atleast PvZ2 Progression. Few levels, minigames, challenges and a boss in each world. Throw in a Garg Level (say swamp one is one who carries a log or volcano one carrying a boulder). PvZ3 lacks everything PvZ was liked for except the characters. What fun is that really.
A mobile version of Garden Warfare 1 is my biggest hope for the next mobile PvZ game. I would accept it even if you need to first buy it with like 19.99$.
I still don't know how they fucked up the gameplay so bad, how hard it is to do what they have been doing in pvz 2: keep the core gameplay of pvz 1 and tack on some gimmick over the level

The thing is. The original Plants vs Zombies was made without microtransaction in mind. 2 and 3 is microtransation in mind. And ergo destroys the gampkay/fun.

I’d say peak PopCap was from 2009 all the way to 2016. And those games except Adventures which was removed are still played to this day. And the problem with BfN is lack of originality. And for 3 is too much originality that it is too badly different. I feel mainly bad for BfN as it had so much potential but due to how it copy pasted from other games rather than keeping in the trend the other two had, it had unpopularity.
Overall. I think the style is fine. Its just the gameplay thats terrible. Atleast we still have the community thta can make fan games of pvz 3 which we could play. But knowing ea, they probably would take it down. Well we could try. ...hopefully

This is what PvZ 3 was meant, across the globe, unfortunately the combination of negative comments from the community and PopCap's idea to "solve" this situation end up causing PvZ "3" as a Gardenscape ripoff trainwreck.
If they just add more wordls to pvz 2, the community will be the happiest it has ever been
Ok so here is what they need to do:
1. Start with a story instead of gameplay the last game used time travel as it's basis so why not make the story about the result of this time travel adventure perhaps replace Penny with Patricia so she has a reason to be there
2. Make an actually good game based off that I mean we basically get teleported to some volcano level in PVZ 3 go from point A to B in a proper way
I really don't think story matters, no one comes to PVZ for the deep lore.

he meant the premise, pvz2 used time travel as premise, so the gameplay was molded after that, the classic used home defense, and the game was made of that, this game could be based on a travel around the world, so the gameplay would reflect that, follow the 1/2 gameplay, but with the travel around the world premise@@PlatinumAltaria
I don't see why they don't just add more worlds to pvz2 given that its till a really popular game. They don't need to make a sequel when they already have a perfectly fine game

Like all their ideas were so ahead of its time: insanequarium, bookworm adventure, PVZ,...
They could just make a real game.
Like a real proper PC game. That launches with full content. All the plants. All the zombies. All the levels/worlds/whatever they wanna call em this time.
Then they could even add in more plants post launch as DLC. More zombies as DLC. More levels as DLC. Rather than making it a stupid mobile freemium thing. Again.

i think a really good idea would be to not make pvz3 but to make pvz2..2
pvz2 2, expanding on the whole time travel thing, there's still a metric fuck ton of possible worlds, and of course, a lot of issues with pvz2 that needed fixing (like how almost all the gargs were the same)
Although this is what PopCap planned during PvZ 3 Alpha where there were new locations with gimmicks plus variety of Zombies with abilities including Gargantuars (like The King of The Grill was a Fast Food Location Gargantuar who flip Plants to the back and multiply Sausage Imps and upcoming but end up scrapped (by Beta "Update") Gargantuar such as Camo Gargantuar implying to be owns an stealth ability where Plants doesn't noticed it until he's attacking plants and Unicorn Gargantuar who was a mini-boss edition of Rainbow Glitter Zombie but slower).
Sadly after the negative feedbacks and PopCap "solved" the problem, it end up becoming a Gardenscape clone trainwreck.

All they really need to do is to put more love on the gw(not guild wars) games instead of making a match game
Things PvZ3 needs:
bring the old sun system back
the levels should not be tutorials
bring back choose your seeds
add the lawnmower and explode-o-nut rewarded ad
bring back graves and lobbers
Maybe make it so Jalapeno Cherry Bomb etc arent Power ups because that makes me want to never use thrm(feels like cheating) so essentially they wasted 3 perfect plants for the sake of ads or money

Just saying, the 2016 concept would've been great. The plant's designs are also beautiful, with the pea shooter resembling a mix between one & two, being less compressed than 2's design.

I think it's safe to say that the relationship between pvz and the chinese audience is pretty damn toxic for the franchise as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if pvz 3 it's trying to appeal to both chinese and international audience. That's probably the reason pvz 3 it's the way it is.

What really disappointed me is that pvz 3 story feels more like a prequel to pvz1, I mean cmon, pvz 2 was fucking time travel. My opinion is that they should keep the core mechanics of pvz 1 and 2 but parallel universes perhaps?
Agreed maybe one which removes the time travel concept but keeps some of the new plants to hint that it did happen.
The fact that it has the "energy system" in which you can't play except if you wait alot of time is making it even worse.

Demands for EA and the pvz3 team:
They dont just reuse the same plant over and over and over again. They make a hard route and easy route so that experienced players have fun.
They make the levels longer but not THAT long.

And some stuff that would surprise us, like a huge update announcement that makes everyone excited for, just like when pvzgw2 opened the main room thing for the first time which included the gnome portal keys and rainbow stars. they could've done so much, but they didn't, the design is weird, the mechanics aren't good, there's nothing new in a good way nothing that made us excited..

You basically picked every problem out and managed to help me and the hopefully the rest of the community a couple of things we didn’t beforehand. “Innovating for the sake of innovating” is not an expression I like, but it’s one that unfortunate represents the series in a way. I loved BFN, a lot more than GW2 even, but the community wanted GW3, and they didn’t get it. I just want this game to bring back the franchise, and stop trying to be something it isn’t. Also, please post more, dude. I really enjoyed this video and think you have a lot of potential.

Legit i could see everything working. All i want is a return to atleast PvZ2 Progression. Few levels, minigames, challenges and a boss in each world. Throw in a Garg Level (say swamp one is one who carries a log or volcano one carrying a boulder). PvZ3 lacks everything PvZ was liked for except the characters. What fun is that really.
A mobile version of Garden Warfare 1 is my biggest hope for the next mobile PvZ game. I would accept it even if you need to first buy it with like 19.99$.

I like the art style of the new pvz3. Hope people wont ruin it like tgey did to battle for neighbirvile, jt was a great game but the community failed by supporting it. I’d say peak PopCap was from 2009 all the way to 2016. And those games except Adventures which was removed are still played to this day. And the problem with BfN is lack of originality. And for 3 is too much originality that it is too badly different. I feel mainly bad for BfN as it had so much potential but due to how it copy pasted from other games rather than keeping in the trend the other two had, it had unpopularity.
To be honest if they just made pwz 1 copy with new plants and world's and story that's peak that will save the company
