Arcade1up Street Fighter 2 Deluxe HS-5 Review: Something is Missing

- As a Street Fighter fan, I had to check out the sixth iteration of the @Arcade1UpOfficial Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition Deluxe 3/4 (HS-5) toy arcade cabinet, and "not review,” review it. This time, they are attempting to stay faithful to the original aesthetic which it was brought to us in during the early 90's: The Dynamo HS-5. For $399 on sale at release (normally $499) is it even worth the buy? Here's Why I think you should and shouldn't buy it, and some pros/cons.

I’m 5’9” and comfortable sitting or standing while playing this. Control panel is standard coin-op height.

Pros:
-Bigger High Quality Lit Marquee
-Comfortable Control Panel / Good Joysticks
-Design Feels Nostalgic/Authentic (Get that boxed-in feeling while playing)
-Molded Coin Door
-Screw Caps
-Most Authentic SF2 cab to date hands down
Cons:
-Bad Sound/Speakers
-Mid Buttons (Not the worst, though)
-No Built-in Coin Reject Lights
-No T-molding
-Three Too Many Arcade1up Logos
-No Deck Protector
IMHO for $399, NOT $499 the pros seriously outweigh the cons. If you want an SF cab and can get this for $399 it’s a good buy in my opinion.

Crazy thing about these glitches it makes me not want to purchase one. I still have my copies of SF 2 world warrior and turbo for the Super Nintendo and 30 years later they still play great, 0 load time and great ports. I also got the collection on PS1 which is more arcade perfect with long load times but none of these glitches and the SF 30th anniversary for the Switch I have same thing. I may just get an arcade stick and play it that way. You are the first person I noticed showing these glitches or least I've seen. Thanks
Good review. Nice to see the 3 cabs side by side. The control deck’s height and angle on my Big Blue was one thing that bothered me. This cab definitely improved on that.

Those graphical glitches are wild! Our Big Blue is still in the box, waiting to be assembled and modded, and didn't bite on the Yoga Flame or Shinku Hadoken, so had no idea this was a thing. Pretty sure the OG Capcom Legacy cab does not have those issues, which makes it all even weirder.
Cabinet looks great, but the fact that arcade 1up can't fix the glitches between releases, means they dont care about QC. In the UK, this cab is £600. If it went down half price, I'd consider it.

Fantastic review and what a great looking cab.
These graphical glitches remind me of the early 2000’s when cps2 emulation was still in progress. But for the cps1 games there isn’t an excuse when callus95 and I think even mame was emulating cps1 game’s perfectly back in 1998. Great stream last night.

I still love the Big Blue cab with a 3” riser. My favorite home arcade form factor.
This one is so great for $399 because they got all the aesthetics correct for once, but I also love Big Blue, very classic and versatile! (I have two Big Blues lmao)

First time i ever saw an arcade machine was street fighter 2. I snuck into an arcade place back in the early 80's
Those machines cost more than 399. Since people caught on. They cost about 699 and up where im from.
Have a good one. Those arcade 1ups are alright but i think the golden tee and pin ball machines are cool.

Your review on point as usual I love the look of the cab but I have big blue and street fighter legacy so definitely don’t need to waste the real estate with another street fighter even know it’s something I would totally do

The front particle board piece can be turned around to hide the awful A1up logo. It's also covered in a much tougher plastic material than the sticker paper. The coin door ligo can be installed from the back with the screw slots leveled with the door to greatly reduce noticeability.
My biggest grip with these machines is lag (their MKII deluxe is unplayable) and their lack of smoothing out the graphics to look luke a CRT (MKII looks TERRIBLE to those of us who played the original). Why in Hitler's name did they add a lame scanline option but no CRT emulation?!
Also, they just said "Fuck it" and released it with that black screw through Chun Li's face?
Nice review. We just need to move on from faux-3/4 scale and get more titles in the XL form factor already.
If they can keep 3/4 Deluxe at a $399 price point and offer XL’s for a few hundred more, they might have something. A lot of people seem to want XL’s, but I just care about accuracy and space personally. It’d be a win win 😊

I would def go with Deluxe if you can snag it for $399, or if you are choosing and they’re the same price go Deluxe IMHO

What would you say has more input lag Arcade1up SF cabinets or ALU running coinops or awesomesauce playing the SF games.
My personal opinion is ALU, though it's been a while and I no longer own one.
I'm still waiting for Smash TV, which would be my last. But at 399, I jumped on this one. I haven't built this yet -- are the speakers better than Big Blue?
No they sound worse, but it’s probably the on-board amp. Strange thing about big blue speakers is they sound great on the MVC2 pcba, and on the non-updated big blue pcba. But something in one of the big blue updates screwed with the quality IMHO
