- Hello, hello! It's a big video today that sums up my whole year of daily drawing! I know a lot of artists who want to start a daily art challenge but don't know where to start, so I've shared my top tips, advice and help in this chatty video. It's definitely the best thing I've done for my art so I can't reocmmend it enough, but it's not always an easy road! I learnt a lot doing mine so wanted to share my findings and how I made it through. I also talk about my personal reflections as well as the numbers and stats for growing my instagram from 2k to 20k (all thanks to this challenge). If you have any questions, do pop them in the comments :) Speak soon! Katie

Excellent video, very thorough. I am planning a daily drawing challenge for the year 2024, and this video is exactly what I needed!
Oh that's so great to hear, I'm so glad it was helpful! Best of luck on your daily drawing challenge! 😄
This was exactly what I was looking for! This is REALISTIC advice. I've been wanting to do some sort of daily art challenge. This helps me figure out what I wanna do. Thank you katie!!! You da best!
Aw what a wonderful comment, thank you so much! And best of luck with deciding on your daily art challenge! Please do tag me on IG if you do - I'd love to follow along! 🤩
This is a really good video, filled with excellent information! I have been thinking of doing a year long project and feel that I could actually do it now, thanks to some of the advice you shared.
Oh that's so great to hear, thanks Alexandra! So glad it's helped - doing this project really transformed my practice so I can't recommend it enough! If you need any other advice/have any questions just let me know! 🥰
@@KatieMoody thank you so much :)
Thank you, Katie! This was so helpful. I especially appreciated the tip about sharing your work even if you don’t like it.
Thank you for watching Kelly, so glad it was helpful! It's definitely something I still struggle with but I think it's helpful to see that it's totally normal to create things we don't like 😊
loved this share, took notes, clarified what has been/is working, & confirmed points ii don't usually discuss but do ponder. ty.
Ah I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching 🥰
THIS WAS SO GOOOOOOOOOOD KATIE!! SO INTERESTING! AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! FANTASTIC!
Thanks so much Jessica!
Such a great video Katie. I am seriously considering a daily challenge for 2024. I've been drawing *almost* daily since November 1st and I can see such an improvement (I've been focusing on one medium per month) and I think committing to a longer period would really help to make it an enjoyable habit but also help me improve my skills to. Thank you for sharing your tips and things to consider!
Thanks Evie! Oh that sounds like a brilliant idea - you are already well on your way with drawing daily since November! I think it's such a good discipline for us artists and I really learnt so much when I was doing it. So glad the video was helpful! 💜
There's so much great advice in here! Thanks so much for sharing!
I've been drawing every day for a couple months now, I didn't actually commit myself to "I will draw every day" but ended up trying to squeeze even just 5 minutes in every day.
I'd love to actually commit to saying "I will draw every day for x amount of days and post about it on Instagram" but I find this unnecessary voice in my head saying "but your IG feed won't look neat and pretty" over and over. I'm not sure how to overcome this. I probably should as posting more would probably help me find more sketchy friends
Thank you so much, Laura! Oh that's so lovely to hear! Just the act of doing it is incredible, it makes such a difference to our practice and mindset just doing even 5 minutes" Sometimes the pressure of making it into a challenge you share can be daunting, though for me I found the accountability really helpful! I also found it useful for building up a community like you say - connecting other artists who really 'get it' and finding friendships too!
I find that a 'pretty' feed matters less now, but you could always just post some of them rather than all! It still counts as a daily challenge because you're doing it anyway, but you don't have to share everything if you want to keep your feed more curated 😊
Really lovely to see you sum up your challenge. Sounds like it was really good for you all round!
Thank you so much Jaime 💖 It really was, and it exceeded my expectations massively!
Thank you for sharing your experience 🙂it definitely helps a lot ❤
Thanks so much Laura, so glad it was helpful 😊
Well done again for completing the challenge :) I think I found your youtube channel when you were about 1/4 the way through. And it has been really nice to see your progress and how your art has changed. I haven't been doing a challenge myself (since the 100 day challenge) but I feel like I almost do create everyday...so maybe it's like an official 365 challenge 🤣🤣
Thanks April! Haha it's definitely your own unofficial daily challenge - I'm trying to keep up with the creativity every day but I do find it's the last thing on the list when my schedule is packed! It was helpful for me to have the accountability I think.
This is so inspiring and such good advice, thank you for sharing ☀️
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Good tips Katie! I think having some sort of plan before starting must help. I do try and draw everyday but it's often working on the same piece over several days and it's definitely good to have the odd day off.
Still not sure I could commit to a long term challenge like this but I am 98% sure I'll try Inktober this year. 31 days doesn't seem quite as long as 365 😅.
Thanks Emma!Oh yes that's a really good point that I didn't mention! I definitely think working on a piece over a few days counts because obviously you're still being creative. I feel like there's a lot of pressure to create new work daily (especially to a high standard) which totally isn't the case. Oooh Inktober, that's exciting! Much more manageable 😂 I'm kind of missing the daily art challenge so am wondering about taking part in Furry Little Peach's October challenge this year 🤔
This was so helpful Katie! I’m going to set myself 100 days after listening to your advice,
So exciting Nicky, best of luck on your 100 day challenge! Looking forward to following along on insta 😄
I really like this video
Thank you so much!
Good tips, thanks for putting this together! I am curious if you already had a Patreon when you started the challenge?
Thanks Mel! I started my Patreon in October 2021, so two months into my daily art challenge 😊
Thanks for sharing! I agree that a project can be broken up into daily bite sizes if we can’t afford hours in a day. Can acrylic inks be washed off from the palette after they’ve dried up? Not keen on acrylics as they are hard to clean but what you did with the acrylic inks is inspiring (it may have been in another of your video, not this one).
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! I find it so much more manageable by creating in smaller chunks. Unfortunately not, they are still like acrylic paint in that sense and can't be re-wetted (and would need to be washed off a palette before they dry). I also hate having to clean palettes which is why I switched to a tear-off paper palette! I use the acrylic inks on there and then just tear it off for a new sheet instead of having to clean it 😂
@@KatieMoody Thank you!
I want to do a year long art challenge, but dont think i could stick to it with out wanting a stiff drink during it lol
😂😂
Hi, could you please write down the links to online reference photos? Thank you.
Hi Hanne! Do you mean the links for the websites I mentioned? I use pikrepo.com and pexels.com 😊
I STILL need to make time to even draw every other day...😔
I've found it much harder since the challenge ended because I'm not prioritising it anymore, and it's the last thing on my list, especially as it's just 'for myself'. I really want to get back into the habit for sure 🧡
