I am a skilled manual worker from the UK (electrician) & living in the UK, these movements mean absolutely nothing to the working class, especially for sure, the white working class citizens on this island. The elites care hee haw for nations, these people can live anywhere, the arrogance of organisations imported to the UK like BLM is breathtaking. The people on the streets from white middle class backgrounds that support these agitators, chancers & charlatans have very little in common with people of my background. They are promoting an agenda that is a clear & present threat to our identity & the time is not so far off when we will end up in a massive confrontation with them & probably the state. So be it then because we will be up for it.

I'm a conservative but living in San Francisco most of my adult life the majority of my friends and neighbors tended to be at least Center Left by US standards. Early on I noticed most of them who were willing to speak candidly in private were actually on the same wavelength as me at the time. We thought the media was wildly blowing a tiny handful of incidents out of proportion. There are 10 million arrests annually in the nation of 320 million people that is the US, 99.995% or so of which are without incident. The very few exceptions almost invariably involve people violently resisting arrest also invariably because, like Mr Floyd, they're high as kites. Of course to say so out loud made you look racially insensitive at best which is why almost no one did so. Going back to to my own example it was only my Asian American in laws who would say this in public. Ironically it is precisely because America is NOT a deeply racist country and thus people didn't want to offend others that the BLM fanatics and hustlers were allowed an unchallenged megaphone to peddle their Systemic Racism stuff until they inevitably blew themselves up.

Agreed, Mike. I should be 'Left', but I can't stomach how some groups identifying as such seem to hate careful discussion, claiming absolute certainty before clear evidence is available, and are ever ready to kick things apart (or torch them, as in the case of the Minneapolis police centre) without doing the hard work of making things better in the first place. Thanks and best wishes.

Step one: "Defund the police!" activism is successful.
Step two: crime expectedly goes up.
Step three: more police are needed to slow down the increase in crime.
Step four: activists demand Diversity Inclusion Equity mandates in the police departments.
Step five: active "experts" ram in their DEI programs into a targeted institution (in this case police departments.)
Step six: these programs place their activist "experts" into power.
Step seven these program help greatly monitor and influence who should be hired and gets fired based on their potential willingness to support or hinder their cause.
Step eight: the institution is slowly captured by an increasing number of activists placed into power and control.

Unfairness, inconsistency, favoritism, and a long list of social ills are characteristics of any society. I will consider things just from one angle, although it is really a universal problem. The complexity of the cure and the attention spans of the impatient public beg this type of simplification. Considering only BLM, and only in a standard Western democracy, if there is such a creature, we must recognize that there are problems which led to the enthusiasm for BLM. I will add one small complexity to this idea. We should consider some of the tensions between religions on the World stage as sharing these phenomena. Actions and reactions are usually specific to definable populations. This becomes a setup for conflicts which do not help anyone, generally speaking. Of course there are temporary winners. The concern here is when some type of action or reaction has already taken place. Everyone has a complaint; and tensions are high. Positions are fortified. At this point, it would be logical for tempers to settle down and for a reasonable attempt to get to the roots of the problem. All sides should be recognizing some common features of humanity and should have some good will to be honest about their own positions, whether they be extreme or conservative. We know that this is how to solve problems, or at least one way when we are dealing with people who are somewhat homogeneous. What really happens though is that the wagons are circled based on deep and intractable problems. In the example of religion, I will point out that I have seen a lot of very justified videos about the horrible deeds and beliefs of the terrorist wings of Islam. instead of addressing those by analysis, we use comparison. In other words, we want our audience to choose sides. In reality, all sides could use some introspection. We know what wrong is and what is wrong; but we see the wrong in others first. So we protect both religions while comparing the behavior. We don't want to attack Islam as a religion even though it arguably needs to be opposed in such a way. Why not? Because we don't want religion attacked. Someone might want to attack our own religion. The slippery slope is that the atheists will win in the end. We forget that if religions rely on the words of past prophets as a somewhat shaky foundation, the atheists have no foundation at all. They have no prophets at all, for good reason. This does not make them right. It only brings out the hubris of the belief. And atheisim is truly a belief just like all others. So we could call everyone true believers of some sort, although we know that in every persuasion, not all believers are true. Atheism survives by attacking the other religions and positing a false alternative.
All religions point to a divine source. Anything powerful enough to create life is divine, in my opinion. At some point, each religion reflects the ancient need to understand the world and what befalls us. At another point, these religions also maintain a power base of those who benefit the most. When power over believers is threatened, confrontation is not far off. The simple souls who accept whatever religion they are born into become the soldiers in these conflicts.
When the police get defunded, or pull back from their responsibility, or are encouraged to develop different skills, nobody benefits. When protesters and their supporters abandon the police, nobody benefits. We should work on better policing, and on better citizenship. How these things are done should not be an excuse to open yet another front.
