Australians can’t think it’s that important. They were given ample choice at the last election: for example, just off the top of my head, there was the Liberal Democrats, One Nation, UAP and others that fielded candidates in many electorates. But on the day the Aussie voters still lined up behind the same tired old parties trotting out the same tired old slogans. Which is why nothing will change.

Not quite. The old parties win via preferences. Eg, in the old day, Labor would get wiped out if it only got 40% of the primary vote, now it wins govt with less. This is because the balance of power (in both preferences and the parliament itself) went from right (DLP), to centre (Dems), to left (Greens). The Voice result showed what happens w/o preferences. The problem with the anti-establishment parties is there are too many of them and they by nature aren't holding the balance of power.

      Gerrymandering was rife.
The last of it went with the Bjelke-Peterdon government when his grift and corruption was eventuall exposed in Queensland.
The conservatives are well noted for their corruption, like the recent sports and car park rorts.
      Anderson knows them well.
You should know it as well since you like to recall how things were right and proper in them olden days.

Ye it's very strange how this seems to be happening everywhere. In Ireland the party of our Taoiseach (prime minister) are almost Thatcherite in their brand of economics, always have been right economically but have actually gone further right than previous iterations there, yet as time goes on they move further and further left culturally as described by Mr. Goodwin. When previously they never were at all. We seem to be the WEF's poster boy country running everything going wrong everywhere else at warp speed. From immigration, to hate speech laws, to you name it. The Irish public didn't ask for any of it, has voiced open opposition to it all of it and has essentially been told by our Government that we are a bunch of far right racists for doing so. The look of contempt on our politicians faces when they are questioned on their policies makes my blood boil. Our leader and the two leaders of the other parties in the coalition got asked a tough question by a journalist about an upcoming referendum the other day and the three of them just walked out mid question because they didn't want to answer it. It only feels like a democracy in name here at the moment. It feels like we are inching ever closer to an authoritarian dictatorship.

The tyranny of the minority and the tyranny of the majority are closely linked, at least in the case of the US. The majority, easily manipulated by identity politics, elects candidates that are malleable to the whims of their donors /super PACs, which are the minority, there by widening the gap between the patricians and the plebians via pork barrel spending a la omnibus bills, etc. Elected officials are often complicit and shielded from repurcussion by the administrative state. I have recently learned about democracy and how it actually works:
The intention of a “democratic” politician is to say what is needed to get elected… but has no intention of fulfilling what they had promised the people: but instead they revise the law and seek to rewrite the laws which were written and previously passed… but then the concept is not “of the people, by the people, and for the people” …of which in a Liberal government only liberals have a voice.
    But the others are silenced.

There was a time when there were no elites in America, at least not any rich enough to overcome the power of elected government with their own wealth.
It was in 1950, back when the middle class existed, when the income tax was 91% on annual income over (in today’s dollars) $12.6m.
Now, which American political party unwound that income tax barrier on “the elites’” path to the unprecedented wealth disparity they enjoy, that allows them to exert their power on the rest of us?

How we fix this? By looking at what worked in the recent past. I really admired Kennedy liberals. Lots had parents or grandparents who struggled to get ahead. When family members are living and have memories of struggles from poverty, it places the successful family members identity as still with the class their parents struggled, to get out of, to escape poverty. This fixes humility in place.
Then after a couple of generations, the new generation builds their lives on the backs of their parents and grandparents wealth and knowledge. Nepotism and a two parent family are an enormous advantage in life for getting ahead, using the fullness of your potential. Jordan Peterson said almost all his students at Harvard had parents in the economic top 1%. Are these the only clever people around? No, they are the clever, spoiled children of the rich. Being spoiled children, Woke teaching made sense to them, the idea that some don't earn their place in life, they have "privilege". To the spoiled rich, this makes sense, as it's the story of their lives.
Wealth and family nepotism inappropriately advantages certain people, like George W. Bush or Hillary Clinton, to rise in society far beyond their natural potential. This means natural and good human inclinations to help our children, it ruins them over time, as they are born with a Silver Spoon in their mouths....become spoiled, decadent and useless. This leads to arrogance and lack of humility, lack of connection, lack of empathy with those they rule over. The answer is obvious: ensure a turnover of our elite, in education and in the political system, which become rigged in favor of the well off, over time.
