  • This is from our perspective only. Bradon was born and raised in the Yukon. I was born in Ontario and moved here about 1.5 years ago. If there is anything that you feel we missed just comment it down below. If you have any questions about anything we'll compile them for the next video. Thanks for watching!

    I lived all over the Yukon when I was younger - for about 20 years from the mid 70's to the mid 90's. The rent was obviously cheaper, even relatively, but only if you lived in Whitehorse. Elsewhere it was astronomical, so it was best to get a job in a highway lodge where there's free room and board. Don't know if they still offer that anymore. For the 5 years that I lived right in Whitehorse, I lived in the Log Skyscraper for a couple hundred dollars a month. When I came back in '98 for the hundredth anniversary of the Gold Rush, I was disappointed to see the new owners had drywalled the interior walls, which used to be log like the outside. I sure miss the Yukon though.

Are Yukon people like drinking coffee? What jobs opportunity that the community offer over there? I would really appreciate it for the reply. Keep awesome :)

    So how far are the majestic, scenic nature areas from Whitehorse? I'm planning on visiting Whitehorse and off to Haines Junction (97 miles west of WH) for a flight seeing trip over the Kaskawulsh and St Elias mountains, which of course will be epic. I've checked out a couple videos on yourube about Whitehorse and its surroundings and it definitely is no Icefields Parkway (Jasper to Banff) from a scenic standpoint. Aside from Miles Canyon and canoeing on the Yukon river, how far do you have to travel from Whitehorse to see some epic stuff?

    • @emiliedenis5387
      @emiliedenis5387  Před rokem +1

      Yeah Whitehorse is definitely not at the centre of the beauty the Yukon has to offer. If you travel 1-2 hours towards Haines Junction there are some amazing views and the same if you go to Carcross and go to the towards the White Pass summit. If you make your way to Skagway, Alaska there’s stunning views and some ocean and it’s about a 2 hour drive from Whitehorse. There’s lots to see towards Haines, Alaska and some pretty spectacular views but you definitely have to drive quite a bit longer. And then there’s Tombstone which is a must see but it is a 6-8 hour drive from Whitehorse but one of my favourite places in the Yukon.

      It’s got all the best hikes in the Yukon and all the info you need. The Yukon is by no means easily accessible because it’s so vast and remote but if you have a car and you love a good road trip it’s absolutely worth it.

    Hi EM! We will be moving to Yukon from Singapore. Is it advised to buy winter clothes over there in Yukon or buy it in asia?

    • @emiliedenis5387
      @emiliedenis5387  Před rokem +1

      It’s really dependent on what you’d prefer. We have a few stores here that sell winter gear and have staff that can help you choose the best winter clothes for you. If you end up purchasing them in Asia I would do some research about what would be best in cold temperatures. There’s a lot that goes into making good winter gear that will keep you warm. Admittedly, we have quite the extensive knowledge about winter clothes here since we do live in the cold. If you don’t find something that works for you in one of the few stores that there are in Whitehorse, you can order online once you have an idea of what you want and need from living here and asking people here for advice. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Does the severity differ from year to year or is it always bad? Also, what is Amazon delivery like? I imagine many people have things delivered there since there aren’t as many stores and products as in bigger cities. Also, is there a lot of crime since it’s a smaller, to more city? Thanks!

    • @emiliedenis5387
      @emiliedenis5387  Před rokem

      It’s often overcast in the winter unless it’s really cold unfortunately. It’s something to get used. Before the solstice in December, the sun only shines for about 5 hours a day and most of it is golden hour. The sun only passes over the horizon so it’s always low in sky.
      The mosquitoes are pretty bad I’m not going to lie. Just like anywhere with lots of wooded area and fairly warm weather. I find it differs from year to year. I find if I wear light colours and a bug net around my head when I’m out hiking I don’t get bit quite as much.
      Amazon is not a problem here. There are some things that might be less available but overall I’ve never really had problems with being able to order things. They might take a longer than if you were in a big city is all.
