How can anyone down vote this? It's clear, informative, and excellent.
Well you can't please everyone. Thanks intocoasters for your support, it is greatly appreciated.
My Halloween heart skips a beat whenever I see a post from you. Love what you created and all the extra set details around it. So much fun and perfect for making that spooky atmosphere. Looking forward to what you surprise us with next.
Thanks Hollywood Haunter, not only does that mean a great deal coming from you but I will forever be grateful to you for helping me promote my first video and your words of encouragement.
Me too
WOOHOO THE FIRST ONE OF THE SEASON!!! YUAAAAHHHEYHEYHEYAASH
Yep, a few more to go. Thanks for watching!
To bring the lightning to the next level plug two strobe lights, set at different flash rates, into that Morris Perfect Storm 2.0 controller. Really makes the lightning look organic.
Thanks Steb, great idea.
Fantastic, great video
Thanks LordHog for watching and commenting.
I seriously think scrims may be one of the coolest effects ever! I just don't know what I'd use it for with a swamp setting. Maybe a gator?
A gator sounds good, however I'm sure that ghosts, spirits and skeletons inhabit swamps too. Sounds like a cool setting.
Well I now know how I am dressing out the windows in my basement apartment now. Between that and the animatronics grave digger and cauldron creep I should be looking good for holloween
Hi Rocket, sounds like a fun Halloween. I'm glad I could be of some help and thanks for watching.
Weed fabric is cheap, so it's perfect for a large, temporary display. Recently, I had to replace a window screen and learned that common screen material is now woven from ribbons of fiberglass, often in flat black. Some varieties are advertised as reducing glare or being tough enough for pets. Playing around with some scraps, I think they might have the all of the same essential properties and it's easy to keep it wrinkle free. So if you're building something more permanent, and the budget allows, you might consider that. This effect could be fun with black lights and fluorescent paints as well.
So cool! Thanks for sharing!!!
I am more than happy to share my ideas, thanks for watching Erma and for the nice comment.
That was awesome! Welcome back, Paul. I've missed your tutorial announcements.
Hey Kevin, thanks ... more on the way!
This is such a cool effect! It's always funny when it's done onstage and a performer or crew member gets caught crossing over in the back just as the light goes on and they either try to stand perfectly still to be inconspicuous or run off really fast!😅
Yep, hidden from view until the lights go on ... then no place to hide! Thanks Fraidy for watching and commenting.
Interesting idea, and very easy to do. Great job 🧡🤎💛🍁🍂
Your channel is one of the best Halloween treats found anywhere online. Thank you for sharing your creativity!!
I am happy to share my ideas, thanks Haunted Manor for such a wonderful compliment.
Amazing as always
Thanks Matthew, I appreciate the nice complement.
I was just thinking about this for a while. It would be great on Halloween day if this was behind a window that looks dark, but when a light comes on, it would reveal a figure. That Idea I have is from a cowboy game.
That sounds like a great idea Ray, let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant, as always!! Thank you so much for your videos and all these great ideas! So looking forward to the next ones!!
Hi Stephanie, thanks for watching and for leaving such a nice comment.
Awesome!!!! That's A Cool Effect!!! Thank You For Sharing!!!! 💀👍😎🎃🙏☠🧛♂️
You bet Wolfman, happy to do it. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Im a BIG Haunted Mansion fan and this was awesome to see. Im going to do this for Halloween. I have a ghost bride animatronic that will go perfect for this.
Well, The Haunted Mansion is the standard that we try to achieve. Sounds like a great display set up, glad I could be of some inspiration. Thanks Jonny for watching and commenting.
Love the videos! I hope we get an "animated creepy bride" tutorial soon!
Hi Chris, yes I am working on the "Animated Ghost Bride" tutorial. It is a large build and complex so it will be a bit later with two shorter videos coming out before it. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Oh this is such good information. Thank you for making it easy to follow.
Thanks finding magic, I'm glad that you think so. Thanks also for being a subscriber!

Sorry this was not what you were searching for ... but it sounds like it still worked out! Thanks Succulent for watching and also to CZcams for recommending it!
Great video - thanks for making this easy to understand and recreate!
If you feel confident enough to "give it a go", then I have done my job right. Thanks for watching Maureen and for the nice comment.
I Love the amount of detail that I've come to expect from these posts. Like the fan on the static skeleton, and the tension rod for a better effect and hiding the edges using the curtain. Thank you!!
Hi Jay, I'm glad all those little tips and hints help out. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to leave such a nice comment.

Great job Paul! Keep them coming!
Thanks CFAO, a few more on they way through September is the plan
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Did you just use green lights for the skeleton to glow green?
@@costumesforalloccasions Yes, the skeleton was lit with a green LED light while the bride was lit with a LED blacklight spot.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thanks Paul!
Great video and such clear description of how to - best out there. I love that you took something simple this time with how to use the scrim - seems like it can be very flexible and enhance a lot of different creative scenes. 👏👏👏
Thanks Arlen. I do try to use everyday items, using them in a different way in order to to get some great results. I appreciate your thoughtful comment.

Very haunted mansion esque trick, love it. Do you think you can do this in a window for passerbyers? I'm doing a lot of projections on my windows, this would be a cool addition if you think it would work.
Hi Refurbished, yes you can certainly do this in a window. It might take a bit to get the right light intensity campared to how dark it is outside the window, but that is all the typical trial and error that it takes to set up an effect. Let me know how it turns and and thanks for watching!
I love your videos -- The ideas are great and practical, but you also do a really good job explaining everything with just the right level of detail. I'm definitely trying this Scrim ghost trick this year
Hey Hepcat. Thanks for the nice comment, I really appreciate it. Have fun with the scrim and your other builds too!

Hi Me A,
Would you be interested in a HALLOWEEN DIY & HOW-TO giveaway?! I have all kinds of odds and ends left over from my builds and videos, they are not complete sets of items to build a prop, but enough to get viewers started. I would probably have several "Prop Packages" from specific How-To videos to giveaway as FREE PRIZES! To enter viewers would just need to complete a contest or task. Please respond if this sounds like something that you would be interested in. If I get good responses such as thumbs up, then I will publish a video during this off season that will give everyone all the details, rules, how to enter and prize descriptions.
Thanks!
Paul

This rocks
Thanks, I'm glad that you like and I hope that you find it helpful.
Yes, scrim... I recall wondering how they pulled off those tricks when I visited the Haunted Mansion... Of course I found out later and it still is a neat trick! A few years ago I purchased some "Hollusion" scrim for video projection... still haven't used it and I'm not sure if I can pull it off in my space... but I'll try. But I like the more practical approach to these illusions, and the weed fabric is much more affordable by far!
BTW: I'm working on your "Beware of Spooks" animated sign and I am learning that you pack a lot of details in your tutorials that require to watch and re-watch several times to get all the fine points. A lot of good stuff! I am enjoying all of your DIY videos.
Hi Ray, have fun with the "Beware of Spooks" sign, I would love to see how it turns out. Yes weed cloth is far more economical, not quite the same end effects as theatrical scrims, but some good effects just the same.
Another outstanding tutorial. What are your thoughts on using Black Mosquito Net fabric, the kind you would put over a bed frame? It's very soft and probably a finer mesh than the weed control fabric. I think it's actually called Tulle and used for bridal dresses.
Hey Pete, it is all trial and error as far as what materials work and which ones don't or at least not as well. This type of weed cloth is not the only fabric that will work ... but this one is easy to find, it's inexpensive and also weather proof. Thanks for watching and for asking the question, I would be curious to know how the black mosquito net fabric works.
Sweet
Thanks Omar!
🎃💀HAPPY HALLOWEEN👺😈
And to you too Lee!
Bravo
Thanks wrllovemen.
In the picture frame you used battery operated lights so my question is how did you get them to flicker since they are battery operated and you can't plug it into the lightning machine?
Hi Diana, thanks for asking. Those particular battery operated lights have lightning effects synchronized to thunder sounds. At 3:15 of the video there is a close up of this particular product. Products change every season, but this one might still be out there and/or something similar to it.
Any tips on painting the scrim?
Interesting question SMMills. I'm sure that it could be painted on two conditions 1) Use a paint that does not clog the tiny holes of the material. 2) Use a paint that will adhere to the material without any adverse effects to the material. If you attempt it, please let me know how it goes.
Great sets and ideas! Is there a way to use this outside without using a projector?
Hi Careismatik, actually there is no projector used with this scrim. You use actual objects or figures, the scrim hides them from view until the lightning effects lite them up making them visible.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms is there a way to do what you have done outside instead of inside....some way to hide the animatronic behind the scrim so people walking by do not see it?
The scrim that I suggested does a real good job of hiding it from view, even outside with people walking by. The key is making sure that light cannot come in from other sources (the cardboard box example in the video), that way the controlled lightning effect is the animatronic's only source of illumination. I hope that helps.
How did you make it to were the candle didnt light the figure in her hand?
Hi Xero, thanks for the question. The battery operated candle only puts out enough light to illuminate it's top portion. Had it put out more light, I would have placed a small black baffle attached to the back of the candle and extending an inch or two above it, shielding the bride from being illuminated. Thanks for watching.
Any tips to finding other vendors selling equally qualified weed fabric? I'm having a really hard time meeting the requirement and the version you indicate is not available locally or available online in the timeframe before my party.
Hi Michael, thanks for asking and sorry for your frustration. Although the type with the even pin-prick holes will give you the best results, supply chain and regional availability may make it hard to come by. I experimented with the woven (uneven, haphazard type NOT the heavy commercial grade, even type weave) weed cloth and it works too, except that the fibers of the weave don't allow for quite the same clarity. However, they sometimes tend to be more grey than black in color. One rule of thumb (except on-line of course) is to unroll a bit of it and hold it up to the lights or sun and see how well you can see through it. Trial and error might need to be exercised, keep your receipts to return the unused rolls.
Hi, very informative videos. Do you know of an alternative to the perfect storm box? They seem to be out of stock everywhere.
Hi Adam, thanks for watching and for being a subscriber! Let me look around and see what I can find in regards to the "Perfect Storm".
Hey mister I tried finding landscape fabric that meant the three criteria you point out and unfortunately couldn't find anything locally so I decided to contact greenscapes to inquire about their landscape fabric and again reiterated the three criteria you point out and even showed them the picture of your three criteria and the holes and whatnot and they claim that the ones they have don't have the hole so I'm wondering if they've stopped making it like that or if you have another source for where you can get landscape fabric with the holes. I'd really love to do this for my haunt
Hi Kevin. I filmed this particular video about a month or so ago and purchase the Greenscapes landscape material at that time form a local Ace Hardware store. I am not sure what to tell you other than products do change and so do supplies. I will be on the look-out for other comparable products and will post them here and in the description of the video. In the meantime, a black, low sheen woven weed cloth/landscape barrier will work, however the visibility of the object/figure will be less clear ... but perhaps it will still give a desirable effect for your particular display. So many times this is all about trial & error as well as pivoting when products change or become unavailable.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms well I have found some stuff here that unfortunately has a high sheen on both sides but does have the holes. I guess I'll try that cuz I think the hose is more important than the sheen but I could be wrong. Only way to find out is to try it in a simple controlled setting and see how it goes. Thank you so much for getting back to me and I love your videos
Do you think this could work for a projector also?
Hmmmm. In my opinion see-thru scrims work better with projectors. This is a different take on it with its own unique visual characteristics. Thanks Big Chevi for asking.
Where did you find the little strobe light string? I can't find those anywhere!
Unfortunately Halloween merchandise changes every year and sometime they are altered a bit and repackaged or never seen again. I purchased these at a Home Depot several years ago.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thanks for the clarification!
Hi. Where on earth can I find a Morris Perfect Storm 2.0 Box? I can't find anywhere online (amazon or ebay). Help???
NM. I got it. Saw the link for it buried in description under everything else www.frightprops.com/perfect-storm.html
Hi Nerding, looks like you found the link. Please let me know how your build turns out.
Where did you get the lights you used for the small example?
A few years back at my local Home Depot. The unfortunate things is that Halloween products change from year to year and the same products do not always return to the shelves the following year. Sorry that I could not be of more help.
