    It's fun looking at these projects and thinking about what ELSE could be accomplished with the effects being created. You take THIS, replace the bats with be-noosed skeletons hanging from a tree, combine it with the living tombstone prop, and BOOM! You have The Hanging Tree from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'!

    My favorite thing about your videos is the way you explain the reasoning behind each step. This tutorial not only helps make bats, but also teaches so many good techniques that can be used for infinite applications! I especially love the explanation of metal cable vs cord/string, that is a valuable tip and its the kind of thing that sets this channel above all the other haunt tutorials. Thank you for passing on your expertise!

    Oh man! I wish I made my bats like this when I was volunteering for my high school Halloween House at our local bazaar! I tried making glow in the dark bats that move from a string but I didn't get the flying effects that I wanted and ended up just hanging them there on the ceiling. However, despite all the work that my fellow classmates and I made for the haunted house, no one came, not even to see the bats, so it was a bust. Needless to say, I was sad and disappointed that the haunted house didn't go as planned and that it didn't attract visitors.
    Anyway, thanks so much for the tutorial on making these flying bats. They're awesome!

    This is great! There's a similar craft for making a flapping bird but it doesn't use a motor. The trick is to find the centre of balance between the body and the wings and tie your string there. Using a smaller version of the Axworthy flying ghost prop, I wanted to make bats fly around the yard.

    Your how-to's on flying bats and the floating candle are exactly what I'm looking for. Your instructions are clear enough, even for someone like me who has never done this before. Do you have suggestions on how to put these out on a forest trail with no power? Is there a battery strong enough to use instead?

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment, unfortunately electical conversions to battery are not my stong suit. I know that there are battery opperated motors out there that might have the same RPM, but they do not always have the same torque (especially for the Flying Bats prop)... and then there is the problem of how long does the battery last. I think it might be a matter of trial-and-error combined with successful hunting for the correct battery opperated motor. I'm sorry I could not be of more help, please let me know what you are able to come up with.

    LOVE this idea, but it's a bit too convoluted for my abilities and PURSE. Here's a bit of a "challenge" for both @HALLOWEEN DIY & @VanOaksProps: Can either of you come up with an effective, yet simple, way to float DIY Harry Potter-styled candles (simple cardboard types hung w/fishing line) to make them go up/down like they do in the movie??? These would be indoors and would be around 30 individual candles, floating in the hallway of our home. PS: my husband would KILL ME if I hammered multiple holes in walls/ceiling, so if you can figure something out, and post it, that would be AMAZING!!!!! Thanks!!

    Thank you again Paul for helping to make our Covid Safe 2020 Halloween community event unique and fun for everyone! Halloween here was perfect for animated bats because there was zero wind. I did a test flight a few weeks before and found out that the slightest wind made them get tangled.

    I built the bats as per the instructions, nothing more, but the motor is not strong enough to lift them. The motor I am using is not identical to yours as I could not find it, but it is very close. Any suggestions?

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  Před rokem

      Hi Jim. Yes, the torque (the engine's rotational force) is very important, especially initially to get the bats moving. The source for the motor and springs that I used are listed in the discription of the video (you may need scroll down). Unfortunately a weak motor with not enough torque will just not work.

      Hi John, my appologies for not seeing this sooner. You will need to call and talk to someone at 'From There To Here Imports'. They are very small (so you may need to leave a message) but helpful. Mention the video and they should be able to help you with the motor and also the springs if you should need them as well. Please let me know how things go.

    Is there a way to put more than two bats on one mechanism?

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  Před rokem

      There probably is but it would get pretty cumbersome, be more prone to problems and puts additinal weight on just one motor. For my video presentation I built two twin props and then staggered them, having four flying bats in the presentation. My suggestion would be to do the same.

    If I wanted to have the bats flap their wings faster, would I need a higher rpm motor?

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Double-D, I have not tried that but it would certainly be the way to achieve a faster wing flap. I would be careful not to increase the RPM by too much. Please let me know what you find out..

    I just finished (2) bats today! See video here: czcams.com/video/gs5GyegMCgA/video.html.
    I made several substitutes, including stiff plastic instead of the mending plates. It worked fine. I was able to find the motor on Amazon ($12.50) (3 x CHANCS TYD-50 Small Electric Motor 110-130V 30-36RPM CW/CCW AC Synchronous Geared Motor 4W), aluminum sheet material and paint were the most expensive parts of the project. I completed it in about 6-8 hours that included paint drying time. The total project cost me about $60 for both bats. Thank you Saul for a fun challenging project!
